The why combat mental heath is stop bullying and take people seriously when they issue with medical conditions and listen to them instead of brushing them under a carpet because I used to go to doctors about limb jerking and they said it was my nerves but turned out to be epilepsy so listen

    Depression and poverty.
With global suicide rates growing in line with increasing poverty and 'austerity' one would hope that mental health charities would be objective and see the link. (Recent studies have highlighted the link between depression and poverty.)
But it seems not. In fact it's worse than just a case of selective blindness. Instead there seems to be deliberate collusion between the larger charities and current political rhetoric. Government and large mental health charities share the same narrative and ideology.
It's an insidious collusion that contributes towards a culture that breeds self loathing and loss of self esteem within the unemployed and /or depressed. It's a culture that screams - 'if you're not working you're worthless'.
Some of the vulnerable and sick are having their benefits stripped away, pushing them into a shocking level of poverty, their quality of life reduced to that of an animal. Is it really a surprise to know that these victims of austerity get depressed?
Is it any wonder some choose suicide over the prospect of cultural humiliation, charity, food banks and homelessness!
I have come to despise the 'professional' who works within the field of mental health. They often live in a comfortable middle class bubble, out of touch and ignorant to the lives of those they are supposed to be helping.
