  • From his recent Mother's Day concert, John shares "Flow Gently, Sweet Afton" from the "Songs of Inspiration and Reflection" concert recorded May 13th 2023 at Yorkminster Baptist Park Church, Toronto.
    From Wiki:
"Sweet Afton" is a lyrical poem describing the Afton Water in Ayrshire, Scotland. It was written by Robert Burns in 1791 and set to music by Jonathan E. Spilman in 1837, under the title Flow gently, sweet Afton. This poem was originally published by Burns in the Scots Musical Museum as a song, still sung today as published.

I've watched your videos online , John, for a number of years. Every time you sing a Scottish song it helps to keep the culture and traditions very much alive! Well done! From Scotland.

Very lovely! This melody is different from the one with I’m familiar, can you tell us why there seem to be two very different melodies associated with this wonderful Burns poem? Thank you for your many years of excellent sing and for bringing these classic Scottish songs to life.

I just heard of this song watching Sherlock Holmes 'Pursuit to Algiers' with Basil Rathbone. Dr Watson requested it.
