Thank you so much. I really appreciate that! Keeping it "reel', that's my aim. Fortunately, it seems to resonate with a lot of viewers, too. I hope you keep watching, and that you let your mates know, too.
Great video. I m not a fisherman but I’ve been watching your videos for a few months now and really enjoy them. I live in the UK where the weather has been miserable with storms and floods and your enthusiasm and the beautiful surrounding nature is uplifting.
Yep. Adding a jig or a soft plastic on a bait holder hook works wonders. Pillies on deep water aren't my favourite as they are devoured quickly. Salted flesh baits hang on much better
Some wonderful snapper Steve I caught a few of those in Florida but certainly not that big ! That pig fish was gorgeous I’ve never seen one of those before. Great vid mate tight lines 👍
Great stuff, thanks mate really enjoy the content. And my father handed me some fish bites today with some floats from starlotackle. Very keen to give them a crack. Cheers mate 🥂👍
Enjoyed that one Starlo. Some lovely eating fish. I have never used barracuda for bait but I might give it a try next time I get one. I got one the other week would you believe my mother loves eating barracuda 😊🐠
@@davidgc4396 glad you enjoyed it. I’m guessing you might be talking about the northern, tropical barracuda? The barraCOUTA or “pickhandle” we get down south is a completely separate species. But both are okay for bait and also not too bad to eat.
@ ok thanks Starlo yes tropical barracuda I was referring to. Might go for a beach fish Friday morning and see if there is a Barra around hopefully with a tag🐠
To be honest, I'm pretty cautious and REALLY pick my days and times: seas under a metre, rising tide, etc. It can be very hairy and it's not something I'd really want to promote. I'm no expert on bar crossings, but I'll add a few useful tips into some future vids for sure... just not specifically on that bar.
Nice vid starlo I have crossed that bar many times in a 4.3 mtr v nosed punt Don’t try and cross that bar unless you know the weather the tide and you have a good understanding of how it affects the bar Give me I pig and a nanny 😅any day over a snapper ha ha or a scorpion fish
Really depends on current and wind speed, but in those depths you should be able to get by with a 40 to 60 gram model. A good rough rule of thumb I use is a gram per foot (yes, very mixed measuring systems there, I know!)... So, in 60 feet (about 20 metres), 60 grams should be just about right.
Love ya Steve I’m missing Bushy tho, say hello to him when you see him next. Smyle from Western Australia great southern Katanning Usually fish down south
I run the Tuross bar, but I really pick my conditions and tides... it's not for the faint hearted, nor the inexperienced! Moruya is a much better (and safer) bet.
How do you rate the eating quality of snapper Steve?, i find snapper caught in inshore waters like rivers and bays can be so strong as to be not pleasant to eat.
I quite like snapper to eat, although they are well outside my top 5 or even top 10 eating fish. But you're right, the offshore ones tend to have a "cleaner" flavour. Mind you, the best snapperI've EVER eaten came from bays and lower estuaries in Tasmania... Definitely something in the water down there!
great snapper dont need bigger, and nannagai. I remember buying a 100 lbs od red fish as a kid for ten dollars at the Wollongong coop. what a nightmare cleaning and filleting them. so destroyed by commercial trawling and very slow growing. great goat baits for yellowfin too.
Dead right re mowies. Like any fish with black stomach lining they need spiking bleeding icing and skinning. Definitely on par with a snapper. Keep promoting iki jime it's great really makes a difference.
“Doesn’t respond in comments!?” Bloody hell, I think you’d struggle to find many fishing content providers who respond MORE conscientiously and consistently to comments than I do! Some days it literally takes hours of my time when I could be producing more content. But I think it’s vitally important to acknowledge viewers’ thoughts and answer their legitimate questions. About the only ones I don’t respond to are really negative, nasty and obviously “trolling” comments. Even then, I rarely remove them, unlike lots of other TH-camrs… If you can find a constructive, reasonable or meaningful comment I haven’t responded to recently, I’d love to know, because it must be one I’ve somehow missed seeing. 😉 Anyway, I’m on the far south coast of NSW, between Batemans Bay and Narooma, by the way… See, all you had to do was ASK rather than make a completely unwarranted and negative slur… Easy! Maybe too easy? 🤔 Tight Lines.
@@StarloGetsReel Hi Steve. I am sorry you took my comment negatively, it was not my intention and I should have rephrased or not said that at all. I had only just found your channel, and after watching the video I was wondering if your home fishing location for your channel is around where I live "Wollongong". I had a quick look at the comments section and I did not see any comments from you so I asked the chat if they knew where you fish. I actually did not mean disrespect when I said " you do not seem to comment". I do not expect that for exactly the reason you mentioned. It would take up a lot of your time. Anyway, I used to watch you on TV in the 90s on Rex's show. Enjoyed it and will enjoy your channel now that I found it. Tight lines and apologies.

Loving the content Steve. No whooping and over hyping things, just a man enjoying what he loves and sharing some knowledge along the way.

I'm with you on the mowies, Steve - they're great on the table if bled out promptly and kept cool.
Yes, we love 'em!
Early morning action at sea. A fishermans platter. Priceless! 🍻

Good video Starlo and a nice mixed bag 👌🏼

I noticed that the Baku Baku were on special somewhere.
I've already got some, so I didn't pay attention.
They work pretty well.

What a cracka of a session.now im hungry first ill be be finishing these long necks as i watch again 😅.
Cheers!
Good stuff.
A Gulp lure with a wriggle tail would be another alternative for the top bait/lure.
For sure. I don’t do Gulp, but I’ve done quite well hanging a Squidgy on the top dropper and dosing it up with some S Factor scent. Works well.

Hey mate, can you do a video of crossing that bar? I don't see many people going in or out of that bar, I'd like to see how it is done.

Red rock cod = gurnard ????
No. Scorpion cod/scorpionfish. Different to either the gurnard or gurnard perch.
