Lyrically, it's already there. So it feels natural with emo musicality. Friggin' great.
I was gonna say that. You beat me to it
100%. A perfect song ready to be dipped in emo.
100% agree
Same with Taylor Swift. Always kind of emo lyrics but not pop-punk. Unless you can count those few tracks from her old band.
this is what intrigues me about emo. People always say, "it's just talking about love and relationships"... but like..so so so much of popular music is just doing that anyway.
"for you I bleed myself dry" idk what could get emo than that.
Came for the parody humor, stayed for the unironically AWESOME rendition 😩🙌
😂 same
Yea, it is funny, but it feels like an homage.
Same!!
English Honors guy spotted.
My gf: "How many times are you going to listen to this?"
Me: "Yes."
This feels so 2000's. I love this a lot.
It parodies the Emo Pop of mid 2000s
I was getting ready to say I get pop goes punk vibes 😂
Still waiting on The Band Perry's "If I Die Young" to be what it was always meant to be, an emo anthem
This!
I second the motion 🙋
yeah! that is much needed!
Please please please!!!
agreed
"For you I bleed myself dry" was the perfect line to become an emo song. Thanks for this!
Wait is this guy single handedly bringing back 2008? And can it be here to stay? Masterfully done.
this guy and emos not dead need to do a colab
Please make everything an emo or pop punk song forever. Sincerely, EVERYONE! I look forward to it every week.
THIS!
@@cryptothreevus Hmm, I don't know about that, his "Forget Me Too" by Machine Gun Kelly as "Bro-Country" was pretty epic. I wouldn't limit his creativity and I'd just let him do his thing. It'll turn out better than anything you or I could suggest :)
@@snowflake1125 I’ve had time to absorb… I’m more into the pop-punk stuff rather than any country stuff (or hymn-style)
@@cryptothreevus That's cool. I just think creative people need to be able to create without being told what to do. Just my thoughts
@@snowflake1125 I agree. My original statement was meant as encouragement to continue creating. Was not being literal.
The half time chorus was *chef’s kiss*
The second I saw the title I knew this would slap. "Look at the stars, look how they shine for you" is some CLASSIC emo.
*YÖUUUU
The drumming on these covers always amazes me but this is a REALLY good example of how a well-played punk drum line can change a song and make this style work.
Alex is the hardest working, most deserving guy in the game right now. Smashing out banger after banger. Major kudos bro
I'm not sure why, but my brain read this as smashing out burgers. I would definitely eat an Alex Patty Melton
Too true
@@gamefellah me too!
His production chops are insane. These songs sound as good as any major label production.
He really does do a great job with everything he releases. Seems like it's always so well made, thought-out and unique!
I'm not even through the whole song already and I'm already smashing like. So good.
Don't even need to watch the whole vid to know it's another banger
Didn't even start the video and i'm smashing like. It's Alex Melton, dude!
Just the intro is a banger by itself
You and me both!
@@frandes2k Yep. I basically hit the like button as soon as I hit play.
Wait... Yellow's not an emo anthem? lol
I mean… it’s emotional
Its a cover lol HAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHA
Coldplay is not an emo band they're just a pop rock band with emotional lyrics
*not emo enough
British emo
The Troy and Abed secret handshake is *chef’s kiss*
I can only hope that folks appreciate the level of thought that you put into this, and I’m not even referring to the song. The slo-mo clips of you singing in time to the song was nothing short of an amazing way of paying homage to the original video where Chris sang the song in time but in slo-mo. Although it became a popular early 00’s MV production technique, I can only imagine the production headache you endured. And the planning that went into it. Absolutely killed it! And that’s not even taking into account the 🔥🔥 song quality!
It was a few hours of math and head scratching, that’s for sure. I’m glad you appreciate the effort!
Yes! I thought the same thing! Brings me back in the best fresh way
@@AlexMelton Thank you, Alex! Killin’ it man!
@@AlexMelton Now I can't unsee it, and it's bending my brain. What is the math behind that?
Glad you said that. I usually just listen to the songs, now I'm gonna watch the video too!
So, I’m on headphones.

Within 10 seconds I knew, damn dude, props to the work on this. Subbed
I know the premise of these videos doesn’t change, but each one is so uniquely good.
Yes, there's actual thought and attention given to each arrangement. It's not a cut and paste situation by any means.
Reminds me of why the early 2000s were so good. Thanks man
the "look at the stars line" sounds just like "island" by the starting line. awesome as always
I REALLY want an Angels & Airwaves version of this song. The poses and first verse alone scream AVA.
I came here up find your comment.
This is an AVA song if I didn't know better.
I rarely have songs that I hear the first time that make me cry, but you sir not only managed to create this masterpiece, but it was absolutely awe-inspiring. Please continue to make these covers, brother.
I can not and will not unhear this. This is the way that song should always have sounded. Thank you.
Love the Troy & Abed handshake 😆
Troy and Abed in the mooorning
Ugh guys it’s 6 AM geez!
Why did this bring me back to my teen years SO fast. I loved this. Yellow was meant to be emo!
"Yellow" was definitely on my emo mix CD in 2000.
I can't resist headbanging to this
You've managed to seamlessly fuse together 2 completely different moments of my life
The song is an absolute BANGER, but I also gotta call out the video itself. Those shots of the trains and grass growing up from the cracks in the concrete. Those just hit me right in the heart, I swear. Like. Its such a MOOD.
Videos like that really spoke to us emo kids in towns and small cities.
@@DJKuroh please watch the link above
The crossover we didn't think of but really needed.
You should call all your video's: If (insert band name)'s (insert song name) was played exactly the way you hoped it would be. Freaking awesome covers.
GOD that breakdown before the bridge is absolutely gorgeous
I always felt like “The Boy Who Blocked His Own Shot” by Brand New is a great take on “Yellow” as an emo song.
came here to see if anyone said this. also trailer trash by modest mouse
Amazing song, amazing bans
also vindicated by dashboard confessional; very similar guitar
never thought of it but omg youre right!!
i always cry when I listen to the boy who blocked his own shot
This is fantastic. Hopefully it gets posted to Spotify soon.
Shocked and impressed that he didn’t just play “I Don’t Love You”
Bro how did i only stumble upon this now? This is SICK! What a stupidly excellent mix and rendition of EMO'rockness. Just, wow man great work.
"How they shine for YYEEEWW" = "Where are YYEEEWW"... LoL
Love this hahaha
Jesus, this cover perfectly fits on Wonder Years Greatest Generation/No Closer to Heaven albuns. Well Done!!
The lead in to the chorus at 2:18 is incredible!
Look at the stars
Look how they shine for you
And everything you do
Yeah, they were all yellow
I came along
I wrote a song for you
And all the things you do
And it was called Yellow
So then I took my turn
Oh, what a thing to have done
And it was all yellow
Your skin, oh yeah, your skin and bones
Turn into something beautiful
And you know, you know I love you so
You know I love you so
I swam across
I jumped across for you
Oh, what a thing to do
'Cause you were all yellow
I drew a line
I drew a line for you
Oh, what a thing to do
And it was all yellow
And your skin, oh yeah, your skin and bones
Turn into something beautiful
And you know, for you, I'd bleed myself dry
For you, I'd bleed myself dry
It's true
Look how they shine for you
Look how they shine for you
Look how they shine for
Look how they shine for you
Look how they shine for you
Look how they shine
Look at the stars
Look how they shine for you
And all the things that you do
Honestly, while your arrangements are always awesome what really impresses me are your production skills. Your songs sound every bit as good as anything on a major label. I make music at home. I have plenty of great gear and a decent amount of knowledge. Yet I can't make anything that sounds half this good.
I wonder the same! So good! Alex please answer us fans! :)
Production is like learning an instrument imo there’s a huge learning curve
This reminds me of a time that I never got to experience, smells I don't remember smelling, tears shed for reasons unknown, a heart broken for someone I could never have. This is the Emo Anthem.
“That felt emo, yeah!” 😂 super good, subbed
genuinely so creative and perfect. I could slip this into an emo/scene playlist from the 2000s and it would blend seamlessly other than being higher quality
Man, this slams in such an unexpected way. There's no way I'll be able to get this out of my head this week.
GOD DAMN! It's been a year and I haven't seen this yet?! Absolute banger!
Why do I hear NECK DEEP x STATE CHAMPS on this rendition?! MAD RESPECT!! 💯🔥💀 A fan from 🇵🇭
Music is haram
You completely transformed the song. My personal favorite upgrade is the drums, both in what you're doing and how forward they are in the mix. The original doesn't really do anything for me, but this rocks.
Great work once again.
If you don't like the original there actually is something wrong with you
@@goldytwatus1674Yeah, my thoughts exactly.
More Coldplay please. This was a banger.
The musicianship here is astounding. Wow. Impressive bass and drum work, for sure
This is so completely The Starting Line doing a coldplay cover and I am still here for it
Anyone else hear The Starting Line’s “Island” in certain parts of this? Love the new take btw!!
One of my favorite songs! Hell yes
Yes!
Its like : If The Starting Line wrote Yellow
I like the idea of Alex walking around an abandoned parking lot listening to and singing along to this at double speed so that they can have the slow-mo sync up.
HEAVYYYY on the “for you id bleed myself dry” being meant to be an emo lyric
why I feel so comfortable with this, it's really soothing
bro this song was already an anthem and you made it 10x better. one of my faves from you for sure
You choose songs I dislike, then blow me away with how much I enjoy your version. You're incredible, I look forward to everything you put out.
I'm here because of exactly that. Always looking forward to his stuff.
the emo version of Yellow was actually I Don’t Love You by MCR 😂 but this is a nice twist
You literally never miss with these; but seeing the Community handshake was the icing on the cake. One of the best channels on TH-cam!
I've always said the lyrics for this song was wayyyy more emo than they're given credit for. Killer work Alex!
Goddamn man, you absolutely fucking KILLED this. I keep telling everyone that you're one of the most talented musicians they've probably never heard of. Hope it helps!
I truly think Alex is the best of any person doing style-switch covers, he really gets the intricacies of the artists/genres that he adapts songs to
almost scrolled by but then went: OMG THIS IS GONNA BE PERFECT
Amazing. Love how you keep uplevelling songs that hit the feels of the 90s kids. You're frickin epic dude!
Usually covers on TH-cam get played out a lot but Alex levels up every time. Dude just completely rewrites the song and smashes it. Killer dude!
this has the starting line- island vibes all over it
Everything is awesome, but I think the drumming is what makes this so amazing!
Man you have a special gift - this and the Everlong cover are really incredible
Bro their gonna shut you down if you keep making these iconic songs even better than they originally were 😝 So good! So dang good.
Please do a country version of funeral by saves the day ✌️
Haha yo for real!!
the fact you took the time to speed up the song in the solo shot so the slow motion singing would match up is an underrated touch
If The Starting Line covered Yellow. This is what it would sound like. definitely getting Island vibes from this
I fuckin love your covers. Can’t get enough. Thank you for leading a whole new standard of song recording. Love love love it.
Id love to hear them cover a full Coldplay album like this so I can throw my money at it
A moment for the mic'ing & mixing of the the bass and drums. So clear and shining! Shoo! They're good.
the backdrop for all the visuals was awesome
Not the remix we deserve, but its the remix we needed
WTF that drum fill at 2:11!!!!! How is this guy SO good at every instrument?!!?
Practice
MIDI programming dude... sorry to ruin it for you.
Just when I thought it couldn’t get more awesome, the half-time groove kicked in at 2:50.
I'd be fascinated to see what he could do with Fix You. I think it could lend itself to his style of covers quite well.
Your cover songs give so much nostalgic feeling, i find myself trying to hit the like button again.
My God, you are unbelievably talented man. Genuinely incredible.
The Starting Line's "Island" feels.
This actually worked very, very well. Great job guys.
I used to use this as the bridge/mashup to All The Small Things when I would do acoustic sets at bars and this is basically how I imagined a band version going, such a perfect song for this treatment
A well made masterpiece. I love your “Yellow” version
it's a great song to begin with and this cover draws attention to that, a banger
Brand New “the boy who blocked his own shot” is basically just Yellow
The subtle melody modifications, halftime parts, and drum breaks… I was feeling this so much more than I expected
This is awesome! I love how you do this man, it's definitely not easy to re-think a song!
As a 40 yr old who was 16 or 18 when this song came out, I have to say I prefer the emo version! This is great!
Ur 40 now and ur 16 when Coldplay 'yellow' came out?!
I'm nearly 39... I was 15 when this song came out. That makes me feel old!
The best emo song/cover I have heard in a looooooooooooooooong time
I love when the cover sounds tiers better than the original. Killed it 🔥🔥
I prefer this version 👍
Alex, I just want to thank you.
You have such a creative eye and its really inspiring. Ive even started to learn guitar because of you man. Im a 34 yr old dude who was kinda lost in my musical journey and you always show that are so many ways to express ourselves.
Thank you my dude
Very Starting Line Island vibe. Sounds great
Now, this is what the lyrics of Yellow really feels like. Nailed it!!!! spotify please?
This song has been my favorite for as long as I can remember, the kind of song that give you goosebumps. You. You just took it there man. This speaks to my soul so much. Thank you.
How is everything this guy does such a banger
This makes me feel nostalgic for an alternate timeline.
Lol, omg! Its like if All American Rejects or Yellowcard did "yellow". Another flawless performance I might add
