    When I was a kid I had a bad experience with church. I was surrounded by people who 'felt' Gods presence, who knew God and had a relationship with him. I was maybe 10 years old when during a service I asked God to come in to my life, to speak to me, to make himself known to me but I felt or sensed nothing. I was always told that God knows your heart and feelings so in that moment, knowing how desperate I was for God's connection.. to feel nothing was to me, rejection from God. I cried my eyes out because I thought I must be so bad God doesn't want me.
    I'm 40 years old now and am once again trying to build a relationship with God. I do believe that he has always had his hand on my life, he never let me stray too far from the path and I'm pleased to say I've learnt to recognise Him.
    So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
    Isaiah 41:10

      Your testimony really touched me. Feelings are great, and can add to the worship experience, But can lead to experiences such as yours, where the necessary conclusion is, if I don’t feel it, it must not be there/real. Over emphasizing feelings caused your church to be a millstone for your own spiritual awakening/growth. I’m glad that God kept touching your life and that you kept seeking out God. Bless you, brother.

      @lucasDwooten ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Sorry for your loss. I am glad you acknowledge God, but I caution you going forward with the “big man upstairs” mentality. God is not a just our friend hanging out upstairs. He is the Almighty Savior and referring to him as the big man upstairs is quite honestly just a way of dumbing him down to make him easier to sin against since we’re more comfortable with that definition. I don’t say this to turn you away from him, but to turn you toward him in a more reverent way. He loves you and is always there for you in your time of loss. God bless!

    Straight up, we're playing "This I Believe" on Sunday and the solo breakdown is the EXACT same rhythm of the solo from Iris.
    Also, for what it's worth, there are lots of churches like mine that dislike the musical emotional manipulation and needless repetition. We play songs (both ancient and modern) that are great musically/lyrically without purposefully whipping people into a cult-like frenzy.

      There are lots of great bands. Enfield, Keith and Kristen Getty, Sovereign Grace, Kings Kaleidoscope, Citizens and Saints, Shane and Shane...
      I could go on. I have a huge library of music we play on Sunday. Lyrics/theology come first, then the music should serve it. The problem with Christian radio music is it tends to be an inch deep and a mile wide.

    This song was my absolute favorite for a really long time, including the period when I was in Youth Group and went to worship band concerts. Also reminds me a lot of a friend of mine who I miss dearly. Thank you for this cover, as always!

    • @xbrandon
      @xbrandon ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BhindTheScreen i no longer subscribe to the faith. While I played bass a little bit I primarily played elec guitar. Bass, keys and acoustic were always crystal clear.
      Meanwhile me who learned every lead lick and at times would loop a rhythm part then play over it... nope.
      Fun times :D

      @@xbrandon well at least you played and looped the rhythm! Our best rhythm guitarist is Ableton, never misses a note!
      Sorry to hear you left the faith, I’m glad the music part was at least “good times.” From many I know the deconstructing/leaving process is not always a pleasant one, but I hope all is well!

    You keep nailing these Alex! Make your way up to southeastern Virginia one of these days. I wanna buy you a beer.
    Also, laughed so hard at, "not so sure about the theology presented there, but I'm not sure about any of the songs we do in that regard.". Finger on the pulse of the reformed crowd vs Bethel, Elevation, Hillsong, etc. debate, huh?
