I’m a graphic designer in Canada, and I’m passionate this. Keeping money taboo leads to underpaid work and underselling your services. Thanks for sharing this!

From the USA. You are very brave to speak about a French taboo subject. When you speak about money, you are talking about the economy of your country. In the USA everyone will speak about money. Some may not speak about their personal money but they know what's going on cash wise in our country.

Does that mean people in France don't talk about the economy. It's understandable in polite society not to talk about your personal income. That is personal information. I think that is quite commonplace around the world.
But it is necessary to speak in the public square about money. Here in Canada civil servants earning over 100k per year are listed on a publically available list and their salary is also listed. We have to do better.
However I am astonished that there is no public conversation about money at all in France.

I’m an employer in the US. I don’t want to underpay my employees. If you underpay people in the US, they will know it and you will not only lose your best people, you will get a bad reputation. I make sure everyone is paid on the higher end of the market, but in return, they all work very hard and are the best at what they do. Also, my business is small enough (we have a little less than 50 employees), so I know everyone well. They’re my family in the office. How could I treat them or pay them poorly? I like that you are a young person with an entrepreneurial spirit. That’s why I follow you. We need more young entrepreneurs.

It’s considered impolite to ask people about their wages, savings accounts, their stock market gains where I live in the USA. I’ve never asked my relatives or friends. The only time that information is out in the open is when people are in the same trade union and they all make the same amount of money and they know it.

I don't understand how to requalify in life. They give free degree, but then market changes. You need new specialty, so what to do ? Ok, there are work arounds as every law has loopholes, but nobody thinks about impact on life. Then other hand if everyone has to pay for degree, then he or she just buys degree. There is no incentive to study.

BONJOUR, THEO: I would NEVER EVER ask someone how much they earned! For me it is a rude question! Not even my sister and we are very close! Especially if they are poor or appear to be poor! It would be very bad manners! But as a Human Resources Manager during my career, I discovered that all of the laborers knew what each was making! I guess they wanted to be sure they were not paid lower wages in the companies I worked at! OF course, in my position, I knew what EVERYONE was earning - even my boss! Of course, it made me uncomfortable to know these secrets! I am human, so it did make me jealous, but not envious of them. It's a strange world, my friend! ♥

Oh I understand that ! And yes knowing how everyone earns is so useful to know if your wage is good compared to the rest of the company !
