The conversation is very natural but slow - this is exactly what I want. "Du coup", "quand même", French people use these words all the time but I didn't quite know how to use them. Thank you Judith and Hélène for creating great videos ❤
@@ChopLeVrai It's not natural in the rhythm but all the sentences are completely normal. It's always difficult for a foreigner to follow two native speakers talking together
@@ChopLeVrai I agree that it's not natural, but it is helpful providing the structure is correct. If they are changing the structure (not speaking properly), then it isn't helpful at all. I 100% agree also that you have to get used to hearing French spoken naturally, so you can't rely on slow French... With TH-cam, I find it helpful that you can slow the speaking down (or speed it up)
@@ChopLeVraiHi, I’m learning French and I was wondering if it’s ok if I practice with you? It doesn’t have to be through messaging only, but it can also be through playing games so I can practice my speaking skills too. I just need to practice both😅

Here’s the thing with French (and I say this as a non-native fluent French-speaker): much of it is about speed. As a Brit who speaks fluent French, Spanish and Italian, the best way I can describe French vis-a-vis Spanish and Italian is that it’s ‘slippery’. With Spanish and Italian, you’re on solid ground in that when you read it, it’s literally ‘say what you see’. With French, you see so much on the page and so much of it just isn’t pronounced. ‘-ent’, ‘-ais’, ‘-aient’, ‘-ions’, ‘-iez’ etc. However, because so many of these different verb endings are repeated, it’s not too difficult to pick up with a little effort. When they are spoken at about 75% of the average speed, they are not that difficult. The liaison thing also adds to French’s ‘slipperiness’, but, again, it all depends on the speed of the French speaker. You can have a passage read by 2 people at different speeds (x1 & x0.75) and with the faster speaker you may get very little, but when it’s slowed down all becomes clear! As here, with the constantly delightful Judith and Hélène!
Great explanation. French is almost “whispery”. As I told my French tutor the other day on italki, when the French speak, it’s almost like they are just grazing the word lol
100%. Another issue for those picking up the language and trying to listen to speech is that the nuance between many ending sounds is very delicate, resulting in many words sounding like other words, and so context plays a supremely important role in determining meaning. This is to say nothing of the role of slang, where je ne sais pas, becomes j'en sais pas due to overactive liaison, which becomes jsais (chez) pas due to slang. This built-in mechanism of French makes it largely inaccessible to the listener for quite some time, unless you find a willing participant who will actively slow down their speech to assist as these two are doing.
@@thisisone9529 Yup! It’s simultaneously a boon/bane that there are so many similar sounds as that makes fewer to learn. It’s also a bane because if you’re not hot on working out context, it can be tricky! However, given the relative lack of personal pronoun use, the context thing is even trickier with Spanish/Italian: trust me!
It’s not speed or liaison (most languages have it) - the reason some people don’t understand spoken French is because they haven’t listened enough to real spoken French.
puis, ce sera pas agreable et pas possible dans la conversation reelle, imaginer tu dire en anglais "I......wish......all......French.....people.....were.....speaking....like...this" lol
hahaha i love how i understood everything except for the blooper scenes. i wish you translated those as well, that's the real candid spoken french. loved the video!!
The slow conversation is really very helpful for people like me: English-speakers who are trying to learn French. The shortness of the video is also another helpful factor because it's very easy to retain attention for 7/8 minutes as compared to videos that are longer. And last but not the least, the subtitles. This channel, Française Avec Nelly and French Mornings With Elisa are the three TH-cam channels I like best and find most beneficial. Thanks a ton from Thunder Bay, Canada!

This is superb. Thank you. A brilliant way to learn and understand. More slow but real conversations like this would be wonderful and very very helpful. They are confidence building.
Thank you very much for this video. I have studied French for several years at school- but never learned to speak fluently. This is really helping to learn every day expressions.
