Finally, a movie that sought to greatly reduce if not outright eradicate the ancient social stigma surrounding those with bi-polar disorder, or to at least shed a much more sympathetic light upon the whole issue, to bring greater awareness & sensitivity to something that can be better understood & treated (coming from one who knows first hand how debilitating & destabilizing such bi-polar flare-ups can be!). Kudos to all the actors yet most especially the two lead stars, Cooper & Lawrence, for nailing the psychological frailties, flashing emotions, feeble stability, fluctuating mood swings & pathos of their characters with depth & skill, making them very relatable in the process. Superb performances to say the least!
I noticed that the way he was silent for a bit as soon as Tiffany walked into the room, that was a sign that he was falling for her! Love this movie!!! One of my favourites! Awesome actors and actresses that made this movie perfect to watch from beginning to end!

😮The "New Jersey/New York" condescending attitude of contention is brilliantly written... Bold, brash, and unapologetic... How these writers captured this type of attitude in writing is strangely interesting...This movie captures a glimpse of adult life in a specific culture of America... The whole "drug comparison" scene also captures a specific TIME in America when drug addiction is a prominent problem in society...
When I first watched this I hated it, seemed a complete mess. All the characters seemed off their heads and I couldn't understand it. "are you gonna walk me home, or what?"
that pulls a lot of acting for everyone in the scene
2:05 the way she says "hey" ! Absolutely captures how a person greeting a mentally unstable person would react. The actors in this movie were amazing!!
This is one of the best movies...both of these actors nailed these performances...most accurate portrayal of bipolar with mania, plus a real story of healing and hope with beautiful ending...watch the whole thing...you won't regret it.
From 2:00 on is when he really showed how it is being a guy trying to work it’s hard. He’s glad Pat is around because it proves he’s not alone & that Pat broke from the PRESSURE once he saw what he saw. The one on one convo he has before Tiffany shows up was perfect, topped off by when Veronica’s sister shows up 😂
To think how mad the guys from Ole Kinderhook would be to see that now their 'OK' association today just means average.
lol
I live in rural Australia and how tf did “ok” come into my vocabulary ?
Ok
😂 ikr
@@jasonmason6910 hold up your hand and give the "ok" sign 👌. Look at your hand. It's literally an O and a K. That has to be part of the origin of okay.
This movie was next level!! Extremely underrated!
the face veronica made when pat asked if it could play ride the lightning by metallica, PRICELESS 😭😂
Her interaction with her sister that ended with her saying “I’m sorry I don’t want to be mean.”
And her sister saying “I know I know.”
Perfectly illustrated bipolar and how we talk sometimes, Same with Pat poor social skills “How did Tommy die?” And “How did you lose your job, I mean I’m sorry how did that happen?”
one of the greatest stretches of ten minutes of movie, ever :)
I saw this movie for the first time while I was in rehab 😂 IYKYK ❤
I love him looking at Tiffany while he talks even though she’s not responding
I laughed so much when Bradley says 'You have poor social skills'.......
The cool thing about this is that Bradley Cooper is an Eagles fan in real life, grew up in the burbs of Philly. He’s from a neighborhood like 10 mins from me...craziness. My brother met him at the gym once lol. Lucky.
This whole scene is such a good depiction of family dysfunction. Perfectly tense and awkward.
In his defense, ride the lightning is a great song
FACTS
Hey, I love this movie. Every couple years I decide to watch this and it gets better every time I see it.
4:57 - "Where would the body go though?" Lmaooo
Pat and Tiffany’s interaction was absolutely hilarious!
Those two, master class. Some of the best screen acting in years.
"Can you play ride the lightning by Metallica?"
he says it so non-chalant it kills me lol.
6:25 “Wow, wow, wow, fascinating.” LMAO
Amazing script. Splendid acting. Great chemistry
Jennifer Lawrence is stunning. She looks right at home playing this role. Great movie. If you don't have some awkward situations in your life. You must not get out of the house much. And the music track to end that scene "what is and what never should be" perfect... thought it was a little awkward that the "Property of Weinstein" header popped on screen when Jen mentioned the Quickie.
Anyone else here for the can u be sample, I haven’t seen this movie but it’s written so realistically that the part Kanye used at the beginning of the song I was sure would b a interview or mtv cribs thing
Of all dinner scenes I've ever seen, and there's quite a few - this is the only one that got how it felt growing up in my house.

Love Julia Stiles' WTF expression when Bradley Cooper says 'Can you play RIDE THE LIGHTNING by Metalica??'
Priceless!!!
“They won’t let me have a phone..they think I will call Nicky...I would call Nicky” 😂😂
I don't know if it's sad or funny that I've been on every medication they mention. I love this movie.
Hope you're doing better now sir
Hope you're doing better.
When they were talking about all the medications they’ve both taken and the reaction from the wife and husband🤣🤣🤣
When I first watched this I hated it, seemed a complete mess. All the characters seemed off their heads and I couldn't understand it. And then something similar to Pat happened to me a few years later and I had my breakdown and it all made complete sense. all the characters in this are somewhere on the spectrum. And if there's a Tiffany out there, drop me a line. One of my favourite all time films now I have lived it.
But did you wear a jersey to dinner?
That slap tho,,, man. He would never forget her even if they didnt get together.
The confusion on his face at the end.......PRICELESS!
I've actually never seen the entire movie, and I've never really wanted to, but I've watched this sequence so many times. It's, in brief spots, really cute and funny ("Desean Jackson is the man." "That settles that.") but as someone with bipolar, it's really relatable but also actually really sad. People like us, there are just so many people, even family, who just can't handle or understand that kind of intensity that can flare up in us at times.
This really was a great movie. Characters well played...
Not bad but "well"? please sir!
"Don't talk about me in the third person. I'm right here."
I would call Niki. Gets me every time!
" They think Im gonna call Nicky........ Well I would call Nicky " hahahaha
They could’ve called this movie Blurt and nobody would question it
