Sophia Mason > well perms have been around since my deceased grandmother was young. It wasn't done on her natural hair. To create & maintain this style most African Americans have to chemically alter their hair. Malcolm X & many others are examples. The 40's, 50's & 60's black people got their hair relaxed before they got fingerwaves. As far as I know we still do. This video is an example as well.
@@APRMinistries I'm with you. While in cosmetology school they showed us a "wave machine" that was used to wave hair. Kind of reminds you of metal hair clips... Perhaps folks was using that PRIOR to Mademe CJ Walker???

I used half the jar on my edges and they still didn't lay down. Just imagine me trying to do my entire head, but I still love my kinky hair.
I love how you have the products listed...thanks you're the best. I saw another natural finger waves tutorial and someone said it was a mess and you have to get a relaxer for this. It wasn't a mess but not as smooth. This just prove to me that your finger waves on natural hair can be smooth too.

DPurple Rush Same here...did a huge chip last Friday,had all of these cute short styles I couldn’t wait to get,then come to find out my hair is to curly and thick and I would need a perm to achieve this look...now that I see it’s possible I’m still kind of irritated because I don’t have the patience to do it on my own😩
AleceRenae456 a perm is a permanent curl.. makes your hair curly. A relaxer relaxes the curl pattern to make it straighter.
Just got my 4th big chop. Didn't really want it however my cousin tapered it and went in deep in the back and now it's extremely short again. I love, love, love your waves!!!!!❤❤❤ gonna try and recreate it.

I think it would be easier to create waves by roller setting or press and curl than by using gel on natural hair imo...thats what we did back in the day but I gave you a thumbs up for waving your own hair! Hands down!👏👏👏

I can lay my baby hair with conditioner I thought my hair was 3c until I saw this hmm now I gotta figure out my hair type again your hair looks so silky 😍
Assunta thank you for this tutorial. I went natural 2012, started getting cornrows for a while then I started going to the hairdressers and I wore the same style, scrunched all over or most of the time jelled & moose on the sides and a scrunched Mohawk (using moose & jel) which I loved because it was a great protective style too! Made the mistake of getting tracks put in just from the crown and on one side of my hair (trying something new), but I was still natural, but the glue damaged my scalp and I noticed I was starting to get thinner at the crown, was told to try Rogan, but didn't I started using Keratin and actually the treatment worked hair grew back. So NO more glue in tracks and I shampoo with the Keratin shampoo & conditioner once a week, with Black Jamaican oil, coconut oil and I use a curly pudding to define my curls but I'm not sure what type hair I have. My hair is soft, it really doesn't get nappy or kinky. I know I said a lot, after seeing your tutorial I just wanted to get that out!
