I had long hair all my life too and it was especially a big part of my identity as a teenager (long hair was the one thing that saved me from being bullied at times). I cut out my locs on impulse and this is the shortest my hair has ever been. I need help because my hair feels sooo dry and doesn’t curl the way I see other 4c naturals. Trying to find a balance of how much moisture should be applied and when to leave her alone
We have similar hair types and my hair also is a different texture in the lower bottom part …. 🤯. It’s like I have a relaxer only on that section and it’s hard to blend with the other half of my hair. Thanks for this video it really helped me out!
Very, nice. I been lazy doing my hair since I retired. 2022. I trim my ends every 2 or 3 weeks. It grows fast. I keep it jelled in 2 parts now during summer. You’re welcome. I hope this style steers you from the creamy crack a little while longer. LOL I totally understand the desire to relax your hair; it is easier maintenance. Some times I’m tempted to go back relaxers but I’m happy with short hair natural hair for now 💛
Wow I was shocked you were able to get all that hair laid down. Do you apply any moisture creme on top of the gel. I find that gel flakes a bit on my clients. I usually slick mine down with design essentials foam which I love but gonna try this on my hair. Thanks looks beautiful!!❤️
Thank youuuu ❤️ When I use foam for this style it helps me work faster because it’s more wet than gel and my hair would probably be less crunchy but foam doesn’t lay my hair flat- I have to use gel. My hair only flakes in the front on the first day because I put on a snug scarf while the hair & gel are still wet. I initially have to peel my scarf off slowly once it’s dry and since the scarf is tighter in the front of my hair it flakes a little as I am peeling the scarf off. I apply jojoba oil to the flakes and it usually goes away but if it doesn’t I just pat the area lightly with a damp cloth and that usually works.
I’m sure you get this a lot but you are so pretty. Just thought I’d say that. Thanks for the video! Mine does the same thing in the back. Funny how that works.

Hi! I recently watched your con video about chopping all of your hair off, as of right now I'm 13 and in 8th grade and my hair has been relaxed since I was 2! I have only seen one picture of me when my hair was natural and my mum explained that she relaxed it because it was too hard to manage 😂😭, I don't know if I should cut all of my hair off but I definitely want it to grow back natural, any tips or advice?
BellTastic Art You do not have to cut your hair in order to go natural. You can slowly transition from relaxed hair to natural hair by trimming your hair over time. I have personally found it easier to just big chop my hair instead of transitioning from relaxed to natural (I did that a few years ago and it was tough-EXTREMELY time consuming to manage on wash day). However, you must be 100% ready for the big chop because it does have its pros but the cons hit different when you are not 100% confident in yourself and committed to the big chop. I hope this helps 🤗
@@cierrafarmer3246 Gel is just my personal preference for this style. I usually just stick with what works for me. Mousse probably works just as well, but I usually use gel to smooth my hair down.
Yes, but use conditioner instead of gel. You just need your hair flat under a wig. I would not use a bunch of gel under a wig. Instead, keep it moisturized, not a ton of product. Cornrows or flat twists would work even better as they will definitely stay flat under a wig.
You’re welcome and I’m so glad you love the video😊. I always leave my hair damp after I shampoo and condition. I can only work with my hair when it is damp. Always have a water bottle handy with type 4 hair 💛

I don’t think so. Tightly coiled hair in its natural state slicked down will simply be coils laid down so it will just look wavy. Your natural curl pattern will be visible regardless of what product you use to lay your hair down so if you use mousse before using the gel, the finger waves will not be smooth finger waves -your natural curl pattern will be visible. In order to achieve finger waves with your natural hair without your curl pattern competing with the style of the finger waves you would have to blow dry your hair first. Blow drying your hair will stretch out your natural curls. Then you’d have to use a product that’s not water-based so that your natural hair does not curl back up. Search “Cool Ass Donj” on yt. Her video: “how to do finger waves on short natural hair | no perm” is a great example of how to do finger waves on natural 4c hair.
Yes, it actually lays down easier with shorter hair. I have not tried the side part with only an inch of hair so I’m not sure how that would look but it may still work.
You have to work in small sections and at a quick pace so that one section doesn’t revert back while working on the other section. Then keep the scarf on for no less than 45 minutes, even longer if possible. It must at least be almost dry before you remove the scarf in order to stay down. If you try again, I hope it works out the next time.
This is exactly what stage I’m going through, mine doesn’t curl at this length either. I’m going to start doing this style and order some head band wigs.
@@Tech-nicallyBlack I apply uncle funky‘s daughter curly magic throughout my hair in small sections, re-wet and shake my hair for defined wash & go’s (details in my previous video: “Wash & Go for Super Defined Curls”). The key is working in small sections on wet hair. Re-wetting and shaking the hair really makes the coils pop! I hope enjoy your wigs as well✨💖✨
@@Tech-nicallyBlack You’re welcome! I never thought wash & go’s would work for my hair as it grew longer but this technique along with UFD Curly Magic has been a game changer for me. I hope it works for you too💜
I laid the back the back little by little. Then worked my way up until the style was complete. I had to work fast and secure with a scarf immediately. Keep the scarf on for at least 45 minutes to and hour to ensure the style is set.

There's one thing I don't understand: You made the big chop (which takes a lot of bravery & confidence) to grow your hair back healthy and strong, and now you bleached it.. Which is probably the worst thing you can do to your hair..
Hair is pretty resilient. In the past, I’ve maintained my hair long, relaxed and bleached all at the same time which is the worst combination. Bleach & relaxer could have been detrimental to my long hair at the time but with healthy hair practices I maintained healthy, mid-back length hair. After going natural, it was extremely time consuming to maintain my hair on my own over the last decade. Yes, I cut my hair due to heat damage but the ease of maintaining short hair was my biggest motivation for my big chop. At the time of my big chop, I was already coloring my hair to cover my grey strands which have been accumulating since I was 16. I just decided to switch up the color for a change because my hair is short and I am not using any heat or any other chemicals, so it’s the least amount of wear and tear on my hair. So far my hair is growing in healthy and my curls are still in tact. My hair is colored by my most trusted stylist (not one of the stylists who caused the heat damage I had). If my stylist saw any extremely detrimental effects of the bleach, I’d quit. Thank you for your concern.
Yes. You could use one scarf. I just use the second scarf cuz I’m extra LOL. The second scarf is more snug (not tight). I use it to ensure that the front and middle part are of my hair air flat.
@@LoriLoveTV your right about, it pays the front extra sides that need to hold down.. my hair is coarse and thick even when it's short😲, that trick there seems to help me 😁, I'm glad I watched the whole video, and even backtracked when needed, and caught , " your little extra trick"😁. My hair came out even better, and seems to hold longer, just that 1 time I'd it that way..Thanks, it made my hair look manageable like yours and beautiful, everyone loves it, since I cut it shorter, during this COvid drama. 4c..? This is more 4a-4b. We have the same texture for the most part and this is not 4c. Even with your hair picked out, you can see that’s it’s not actually 4c
I’ve always categorized my hair as 4C mainly from my experience before my big chop... My hair was extremely shrunken in its natural state and very time consuming to detangle because of its tight coils. Whenever I tried following TH-cam tutorials for different hairstyles my hair never turned out right -twist outs and braid outs always resulted in a head full of frizz and any bit of definition never lasted beyond a day or two. Usually the person in the tutorials that I followed did not have 4C hair (they usually had 4A/4B hair)which led me to assume that my hair is for 4C. It is not my intention to mislead anyone. For better accuracy...The very back of my hair is fine and has loose curls. The top and the sides of my hair is very coiled. The crown is the most tightly coiled and overall my hair can appear dry with a bit of sheen. My stylist defines my curl type as Very Coiled-Type VII on Mizani’sNatural Curl Key.

If i apply mousse before the gel dries and start styling it, would finger waves be achievable? I have 4c hair about the same length as you by the way.
@@LoriLoveTV yeah, i assumes i would have so blowdry my hair. Thanks your the response❤️
@@2468whodoweeappreciate You’re welcome, enjoy the rest of your day!💕
Can we do this with hair that’s even shorter than yours? Like an inch long
Yes, it actually lays down easier with shorter hair. I have not tried the side part with only an inch of hair so I’m not sure how that would look but it may still work.
I tried laying mine down.. It is just too much. I guess I will try again tome other day.
Wash and go’s have become my go to. Finally got it down to a science and it lasts 5-6 days. I’m starting to consider wigs too for a change.
@@LoriLoveTV I tried to follow TH-cam videos for wash and goes but my hair is stubborn! Good luck with the wigs 🤍
I hope enjoy your wigs as well✨💖✨
@@LoriLoveTV thank you so much and I’ll watch your video!
@@Tech-nicallyBlack You’re welcome! I never thought wash & go’s would work for my hair as it grew longer but this technique along with UFD Curly Magic has been a game changer for me. I hope it works for you too💜
The back of mines won’t stay down 😅 help ?!
Keep the scarf on for at least an hour or more to make sure your hair dry. The longer the scarf is on the better.
How did u lay the back?
I laid the back the back little by little. Then worked my way up until the style was complete. I had to work fast and secure with a scarf immediately. Keep the scarf on for at least 45 minutes to and hour to ensure the style is set.
Ty!!!!
Yw!!!
What type of conditioner do you recommend for deep conditioning?
I'm ashamed to say that it's been a minute since I've deep conditioned my hair but I like Organics Hair Mayonnaise by Africa's Best.
@@LoriLoveTV Okay. Thank you for responding
I must have 4LMNOP hair cause my shit look like a microphone sponge. 🥴😩😂

I’m so glad you like this style
Ohhhhh I was going about it all wrong lol and wondering why it wasn't working 💀
I hope you tried the style again. Hopefully it worked well for you.
HI LORI I ENJOYED YOUR VIDEO. I USE ECO STYLE GEL AND THEN I USE STYLE FACTOR POMADE ON TOP OF THE GEL. I TIE IT DOWN AND THAT WORKS BEST FOR ME. IF YOU CAN FIND A GEL AND POMADE BY THE SAME COMPANY, THAN USE IT. PLEASE HAVE A BLESSED DAY!!!! I GOT THIS IDEA FROM ONLY ONE JESS. SHE IS REALLY GOOD AT STYLING HAIR. CHECK OUT HER VIDEOS SOMETIMES OK. BE BLESSED!!!!
I’m glad you enjoyed this video. I don’t think my hair can take a pomade on top of all the gel I use 🤣 but thank you for sharing!!!!
U can almost pull off Jada Pinkett in Low Down Dirty Shame movie 🎬 Lol

Thank youuuu ❤️❤️
There's one thing I don't understand:
You made the big chop (which takes a lot of bravery & confidence) to grow your hair back healthy and strong, and now you bleached it..
So you used two scarves to lay your hair down
I'm going to keep it that way for the Spring and Summer, you got a winner there
@@HalfCenturyGirl It sounds like you have a head full of beautiful hair!!! Thank you so much for watching the whole video!!! I am so happy you found this video helpful. 💕
I’m sorry but this is NOT 4C hair.. 4C hair has tighter coils. Your curls are too loose to be considered 4C
Thank you for sharing
I still wish she had let us see the back
Sorry about that. I recreated this look when I went to Beyoncé’s Renaissance World Tour. You can see what the back looks like in my most recent video.

@@LoriLoveTV You welcome
I don't be knowing what to do with that little stuff in the back. It'll look ridiculous in a ponytail.
I spritz the back with water in the morning, apply a little gel and tie it down with a scarf to refresh the look.
That's not 4c hair
