It was a good 25 or so years ago my wife who loves country music dragged me to the Topsfield Fair here in Massachusetts. I could care less for country music and there on stage was Mickey Gilley, I never heard of him. Boy what a show he put on and I was a convert!
I have a picture of me and Mickey Gilley at the Lucas Count fair . I was about 10 years old. This the music I grew up on. Maybe it's because my Mom was pregnant with me and went to a Jerry Lee concert. My papa said stop jumping around before you go into labor. Lol. This made my day Thank you!!
Saw Jerry Lee at a private club in Midland Texas when we were both in our 30’s! Sat right next to the stage and believe me when I tell you that “The Killer” was wound tight and full of energy that night! Great show and I had no idea that he and I are the same age. My my, Mickey Gilley, such a gentleman to my sweet departed mom! Rode on a flight sitting next to him on her way to the Superbowl in LA back in the early 80's. Seems there were penguins strolling down the planes aisles at one point..I've got the Houston Chronicle article somewhere...she sure spoke well of Mr Gilley.
