    Others might not agree but he was a showman! He was wild but he was a performer who made heads turn. He lived his life the way he saw fit. That was Jerry Lee Lewis!

    I first heard Jerry in 1957 in the UK, I had the honor of seeing him perform live many years later, and now as an 80-year-old man, my tears fall. Thank you Jerry for many many years of musical pleasure. As far as pure Rock n Roll goes, you were indeed THE KING.

    I am Navy retired and therefore a veteran. I don't need nor want a funeral like this. I enlisted out of love for my country not for all these bells and whistles or freebies some veterans feel the country owes them. I am being cremated and my ashes sent to sea onboard one of our fine Navy ships along with other veterans wanting to go out the same way. Given how well known Jerry Lee Lewis was, this funeral was really modest unlike Michael Jackson's, just one example of extravagance at it's worst. Whitney Houston's was also overkill. RIP Mr. Lewis. Thank you for some amazing music.

    • @yortsemloh1156
      @yortsemloh1156 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You are right about some veterans. I think a lot of them did it for the recognition and benefits. I know one trying to get full disability from the VA because he saw someone get stabbed on leave during peace time. What a hero!

    • @pearlsgirl4236
      @pearlsgirl4236 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Why do you feel the need to bring up Whitney Houston’s and Michael Jackson’s funeral? It is not our place to judge whether their funerals were “extravagance at its worst “ it was their funeral just as is was Mr. Lewis’ funeral. It is amazing that people have the audacity to judge other peoples home going! Let’s just pray that they all made it into GOD’S KINGDOM!

    • @susanburnworth7893
      @susanburnworth7893 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@pearlsgirl4236 just pointing out that Mr Lewis's funeral was far more modest then Michael's and Whitney's. Wasn't judging them. Their money to waste. Or their family's to waste I should say. Then there was the huge cost of law enforcement needed to control the large crowds that gathered for these two televised funerals. It is a little sad that you never see the funeral of a war hero covered live on a major news channel if you want to be a total jerk about me making a simple observation about two extremely talented musicians that literally killed themselves through drug abuse. Now I am being judgemental. They had a choice to not do drugs. A service member does not have a choice about being sent into battle. Get your priorities right.

    • @pearlsgirl4236
      @pearlsgirl4236 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@susanburnworth7893 my priorities are absolutely straight. And it really doesn’t matter who had/has a modest or extravagant funeral. A war hero, a rock and roll star, a drug addict, a saint or sinner, in the end we all must bow our knees to the King of Kings and Lord of Lords…..Jesus Christ! Why do we judge another person’s life or death when we all have to die as well. We should not worry/care about police escorts or media coverage for those who are dead. We should be caring about how we are living! And as a matter of fact a person who dies from a drug overdose is no less than a person who has lived as a pedophile. I like the music of JLL, Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, etc. And I appreciate ALL that American service people have done for this country, however one group or person is no better than the other! Blessings, Grace and Mercy to you and yours!

Jerry Lee was indeed one of the pioneers of rock and roll and gave a new meaning to 'just playing the piano' , he set that piano alight with his vamping and crazy antics. Jimmy wood Youngs funeral home is not nickle and dime ferriday LA is not LA or New York city it is a small community of great people and farmers firmin Ulmer used to farm several thousand acres of cotton corn and soy beans near ferriday so don't talk down to people that you don't know or appreciate like I do .Mackey Gilley Jerry Lee and Jimmy swaggart all are cousins are from ferriday LA its a sad thing that your comments were hateful and showed disrespect as you did at an event like this .Jerry Lee and Mackey are gone from us now but their music still brings fond memories and the F 4 phantom jet in my picture is a marine jet fighter bomber at DaNang Air base in Vietnam I am a marine combat veteran and some of my friends from ferriday served in Vietnam as I did and use to pal around with Jerry lee

    Just learned he past away today. I didn’t know until now. I am saddened and shocked. He was a legend and I remember listening to his music with my grandfather… I would always check in every few months online to see how he is doing… I checked today and I seen something I didn’t wanna see. At least he lived a long life and he was an amazing musician. Hopefully he is resting finally after all the rock n roll. RIP Jerry. Thanks for being a part of my childhood

      In the Pentecostal Church where Jerry, Jimmy, & Mickey were raised in 1940’s & 1950’s if U had an accordion & a guitar U could have music ANYWHERE❣️They grew up not believing in having TV’s around so U sang music & Church picnics & anywhere they could to provide entertainment… Just as Elvis saw music in the Southern Black Gospel Churches… The 3 cousins learned to play music from THEIR AUNT prob so they could play in church…. Jerry & Mickey took that Boogie Woogie Sound to the Secular Entertainment Stage… They learned that style in church bcoz many times there were just regular church members that played a “LIVELY” style of Pentecostal swinging from the rafters & jumping the pews style WHEN THE HOLY GHOST FELL ON ‘EM… Jimmy chose to stay in the Church & had quite an EMPIRE established in Louisiana until his flesh got the “best” of him… No one said he was a perfect Angel…Frances, his wife, is The Saint for staying w/him… He may have attended the Funeral Service but his son, Donny, as well as grandchildren have NOW taken over day to day or operations… Jimmy may have shared a few words or Memories,but he is old enough that doing an entire service could be tough?
      RIP Jerry Lee… NOW U KNOW THE GREAT UNKNOWN❣️✨🙏

    My Mom and my Aunt Carol would get all decked out in the late 60's and go see Jerry Lee in mostly Kansas City.
    They had several photos taken with him/band over the years.
    Totally loved him!!!
    BIG BIG hairdos, sixties double knit outfits, scarves the whole nine.....
    They were chubby, but they did not care. They kept it classy!😂❤️
    I feel certain if allowed, they were waiting on him....🇺🇲
