I just want to specify so that I don’t have any false info, that ww2 started in 1939 but the US joined in 1941 with the attack on Pearl Harbor. I want to make sure I was clear enough on that in the video.

When you say war broke out it sure sounds like incorrect information. Not everything is US centric 2:20

I’ve been using my Mamiya Six Automat for about a year now and it really is an excellent camera. I read that the lens is a Tessar design which is why it’s so sharp. I really like the focusing wheel on the back, but I will say it’s my first rangefinder and I’m struggling a bit aligning things in the patch. On motionless objects with sharp edges it’s easy to focus, but busy scenes with, for example with lots of small tree branches, I find it difficult. I was also struggling with loading film until I saw your video short. It made such a big difference!

I’m glad to hear my short helped you!
I’ve struggled with the same things myself. For focusing on busy scenes or movements, I tend to try to get something in the foreground or in the middle of the scene. If you’re wide open it’s even harder but if your aperture is small you can try for the middle of the scene and it should be good. Keep it up!

Good overview. I love folding cameras. I have a Wester Autorol (actually two) and a Fujica Super 6. Using them takes me back to a different time and place.

Very cool old Mamiya, Aly. Nice review. I hope you find a minty version.

Beautiful results and excellent review! I've always wanted to review one of the folding Mamiya Sixs! Aren't diaper bags great for carrying all the extra stuff, including basic first aid equipment? Also, from a more historical nerd bit, WW2 started in 1939, and the US entered in 1941 with the bombing of Pearl Harbour.

Yes you’re right about ww2. I realized after I posted the review that I didn’t specify that America joined when Pearl Harbor happened.

I was always told the name was pronounced "ma-MY-yah", which, of course, led me to ask why a Mamiya is a camera but a papaya is a fruit. 🙃But I'm far from the expert on this, so if you were told it's pronounced "ma-MEE-yah", then you're probably right, and my joke is old enough for retirement, anyway. As usual, the review is spectacular and engaging. Plus, the photos are fantastic, the camera is cool, Lainie is lookin' adorable and Kelsey, well, she's a keeper! (Patching you up and giving you her version of "Go get 'em, Tiger!" means she knows what you need and she's got your back and she's always there for you. I proposed to my wife when I realized that she was all those things to me, and we're going on 35 years together, so I like to think I know something about this. May you keep each other motivated - and you shooting - forever, and here's wishing you all the very best!)

Thank you so much. I appreciate that.
It may very well be pronounced that way lol I’ve just always heard it said Ma-me-yah so I just went with that 😆

These cameras are awesome. I love mine. Unfortunately, these are prone to fungus. It creates a haze in the coating. Any bright spot in the frame will flare and make the image look soft. I just learned to shoot without brigh spots in the frame.

I wanted a Mamiya but could never find one that seemed to click all my boxes for condition and price. In the end I picked up a very nice Super Fujica-6. The rangefinder is a little hard for me to see but so far I haven't not missed focus

I have one of those someone sent me but the shutter is broken. I really wanted to try it. I’ll have to get one one day to compare.

My Mamiya’s rangefinder is misaligned but I mainly do landscapes so it’s no biggie

I wonder if you could align it yourself? Sometimes a screw can do it. Mine is off a little as well.

You mean a reliable place to buy? KEH is where I bought a lot of mine and some on eBay. With eBay I only buy from sellers who have 100% positive feedback and always specifically ask if it works. There are other stores but I haven’t bought from anyone else so I can’t vouch. Hope that helps!
