Have you considered - Lammywalness Erase Depression Guide (Have a quick look on google cant remember the place now)? It is a good one off product for beating depression fast without the normal expense. Ive heard some pretty good things about it and my cooworker after a lifetime of fighting got great success with it.

I'm 55 and have fought depression many times on and of. Positive routine getting up in the morning taking care of myself can take a huge amount of energy at the start faking it till you make it . It took about 6 months until the positive feeling caught up. It is so worth it. If you are lucky enough to find love you can climb mountains. God having a relationship is also huge for me. G LY all

@@tiberiuskirk739 trust me. It won't help. This very perspective is part of the depression. Itself and if one continuously feeds the depression by negative patterns, it slowly just becomes worse. It might be hard at the start, but just put yourself in positions where you have to face the things you may dislike such as interacting with people etc. CBT is also a great tool for rewiring the brain into more positive outlooks and significantly lowering feelings of depression anxiety. The only thing to make sure of is to find a good psychologist, because a good one whom you can trust and feel comfortable with is what'll make the difference! Best of luck to you!

My family physician wanted me to go get help and have a psychiatrist give me a perscription. I thought to myself, that is BS. Instead I self medicated myself with alcohol n weed. I came out of my funk n grieving after about six months. Why let a pill take the place of all the

What should someone like me do about that? when I have tried to connect with people but failed over and over and over, making me more and more depressed? I literally read articles about how to cope with loneliness and they always suggest to just reach out to the MILLIONS of people in your life who love you and just cannot wait to help! Wow. What often makes the problem so damaging is seeing how other people are fooled by it, so that, when the attention turns to you you are the one that looks bad. Unfortunately, these individuals are often seen as righteous, self-assured, and well adjusted as their disorders allow them to be unaffected in all situations. Extremely galling!!

Having survived severe depression which lasted 10 years I realised that a way out is a mindset change - a redefinition of your life from the important pieces remaining from a shattered life and what you discover in the core of your being. Depression is spiritual fire that burned away all the trivialities in my life to make me know what is really important from what is not. In short it simplified my life and taught me Wisdom. Nowadays nothing shakes me anymore. Will be going into motivational speaking.

I find a good start with depression is to fight small battles first. Things you can deal with but often ignore because you think the problem is trivial and can be ignored. Clean something. Go for a walk. Avoid things that can be frustrating like video games that mask the frustration with brief highs of instant gratification (like shooters do). Eat when you should even if depression makes you not hungry even if it is just a little. It fights the physical stresses depression is hiding your subconscious still feels. B vitamins. Sleep, especially when you are supposed to. But most importantly meditate. Not be silly or goofy but meditate as in stop and think alone in silence and search out in your mind the things bothering you reach in and pull it out so it can vent and express itself (mumble , scream, groan, talk it out externally, whatever feels best) even if you can't solve it finding it and letting it out is a great release of the constant pressure one feels when depressed.

Depression is a symptom not a disease. Trying to cure depression is like trying to cure pain.
What you "need" is to figure out the source of that pain.
Taking anti-depressants can help you with that but don't rely on them, and don't stop seeking the cause of your pain because of a temporary relief.
Relying on anti-depressants long term is like taking pain killers while having a spike through your stomach, and not doing anything about it because the drugs make the pain go away, eventually that spike will kill you. So find out why and fix that.

    • @DouglasBloch

I do not agree with "dont take big decisions". Sometimes the reason people are depressed are because they're stuck in life, not moving forward or just miserable and need to get out and learn things and take risks. So I am all for someone taking big decisions while depressed. If it's a mistake, then they will learn from that mistake. If not, thats great!
For some people the depression will never go away unless they make big changes.

    • @DouglasBloch
      @DouglasBloch  7 ปีที่แล้ว +34

I understand what you are saying. But little changes made over time also result in big changes. And during depression, the depressed person's judgment is impaired, so that he or she does not see things clearly. For example, many depressed people think that "I will never get better." But every rule has its exceptions. So if you are in an abusive relationship while depressed, it is probably a good idea to move on.

    • @MeloraCarabas
      @MeloraCarabas 6 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      True that.
The decision to get TFO of the situation that is keeping you down is always a good decision to make. And it is seldom accomplished by taking baby steps because those will just alert people to drag you right back to square one.
Staying because it's such a big decision is a whole other problem called "staying in your 'comfort' zone".
Specificness and context are really important here.

I've been suffering from depression and anxiety for about a year now. I was severely suicidal and the police was called for my own safety twice. I tried reaching out to the one person who was like a brother to me but a a got was: I can't get involved! A month later he and my landlord kicked me out without notice and made me homeless for three months!
Be careful who you reach out to!
People you trust and love can be ruthless, backstabbing bastards! 😢
Yet I still love and miss my "big brother"...

I totally get the not to isolate point. I may start a day in a fog, but even going to the local shops helps change my mood for the better. We may feel like isolating because we may not want to talk about it with others, so then to do something around people where you don't have to express yourself can be a catalyst to open up later. Sometimes we just need benign interaction.

I've heard that trying to help others and focusing on their needs can be therapeutic. I focus on the fact that if this was my last day on earth what would I miss? What's the worst that can happen today? How can I spend my time doing something wonderful for someone? I'll focus on a short time frame and try and accomplish a goal I know I can handle. Sometimes our everyday activities, things we have to do and get done can seem so heavy but if we actually push ourselves to just do one of those things it can really make you feel so much better, a great sense of relief, and you'll find it easier to do more! It really works.

3 walk / spin bike when feeling terrible
4 plenty of fluids when you dont feel like eating
5 talk to family about it
6 surrender yourself to people who can help you .
I saw a patient who once told me that having chemo was easier than depression . Stick in there everyone . There is no quick fix . Stick to a process even know you dont believe it will work . It takes time and you will struggle but when going through hell , dont stop

I find it hard not to isolate because it is the only time I feel content. Human interaction with strangers, people I have not much in common with or crowds will leave me empty drained and depressed in minutes and I hate every minute of it. Human social behaviour has no appeal to me. The only way I can recover from such a situation is a significant amount of alone time, a view uninterrupted dais at least. I don't mind the presence of people like my parents who coexist in the same dwelling as I do. They are like a pot plant, they are present but don't bother me, they respect my introversion. I don't like to leave home more than once a week preferably less. I have a large territorial bubble and when people step inside my territorial bubble if feel uncomfortable and tense.

Reaching out to others, answering phone calls, and avoiding isolation requires that a person have other people in their lives. I've has Asperger's for my entire life, but only learned about it recently, just before my 53rd birthday. Personal relationships are nearly impossible to build. The few that I do build are accidental and do not last long.
Most of my life has been spent in isolation, so it's nothing new for me. I do not recommend it.

Yes!! Especially the first one. Self medicating is a double edged sword and never actually gets us on the path to really heal,it's a temporary way to cope and it can easily transform into addiction.
As someone who's used alcohol to self medicate I've found out it makes depression even worse after its effect it's gone. The price you pay to be carefree for a few hours is too high and your problems remain unsolved.
To everyone struggling out there, i know it's easier said than done but try to replace harmful ways of coping with something you can actually benefit from! And by all means share with your loved ones/seek professional help. No one should be going through times like such alone!

HI. I can relate to this so much. I have used alcohol so much over the course of my life and for a long time it did give me relief and provided me a lot of "short term" pleasures. I certainly did have some good times when I was younger but I am now 33 and am realising that I used alcohol too much and it never actually was good for me in the long term. I had a lot of friends that used it and I guess in a way I just thought it was the "norm." I really believe that my excessive use of alcohol in my life has resulted in me having severe feelings of depersonalisation/ depression right now in my life and I have been living in fear for a long time they will never pass.

Patrick Ranke Although I have been on and off drinking for not such a long time, maybe 3 to 4 years I understand completely. It's a struggle and the more soon we realise and admit that drinking/binge drinking is not good for us, the more soon we'll be able to cope. However, even though i have realised drinking is not the way out, I cant help but go back to it occasionally. Just to get the weight off my shoulders even for a moment.
You said drinking has made your depersonalize /depression worse. Did you tend to have depersonalization before drinking? I daydream a lot and sometimes (a lot of times) zone out but alcohol seems to bring me in the present and let me feel it without so much fear. If anything when i drink,i connect more with my feelings and self and presence. So I'm wondering how does it affect you!

Thank you for your kind words of encouragement. Like most people, I used to love to drive. Then one day I had my first panic attack while on a bridge and my world got very small. After years of anxiety treatment and driving on benzos I quit for 11 years. I'm now driving again for 8 months but still just enough to get to work and basic nessecities. I still feel bad because lifelong mental illness keeps me from living the life I would like to have. I found trying different types of exercise helped and continues to help better than anything.
Weights helped me followed when I'd put muscle on by cardio to strip my fat. It gave me focus, set achievable goals and everything improved. I slept much better, was forced to eat healthier and had a "good" type of energy quite different and more pleasant than my usual tiring anxious energy.
I discovered that the most intimidating kind of gym, the backstreet hard-core spit and sawdust type, was paradoxically friendlier. No one judges if you're learning and trying. Better than the expensive poseur/hook up palaces in my personal opinion.

Thank you for the constructive advice: I do, however, think the point on isolation needs qualifying. Having support IS essential, but a) you can use that as a kind of "self-medication", b) being with others can be very challenging or bring up uncomfortable issues - which can be a good thing, and c) learning to be alone in a positive way is also essential.

I believe I am getting over a period of depression. My sleep pattern is returning to normal, my appetite is coming back, I'm starting to take an interest in getting things done. I'm not "there" yet, but I feel the veil is lifting. I used to be so strong and events left me feeling so cut down ... I almost stopped functioning. I see it as shedding a skin. I stopped eating, I stopped going out, I stopped taking care of myself and my house. I stopped. But now, slowly I'm moving forward, I'm feeling the hope and desire to grow into a new stage ... and embrace it. I hope to have the chance to enjoy it and be happy again.

If that's true for you, then you probably have more anxiety than depression. We get depressed because of the things we don't express. You need to express yourself to others in order to heal. But I get it, after I'm around too many people I get anxious and then I'm more vulnerable to fall into the stinking depression. Will refuse to go out to experience that terrible anxiety, but then I get depressed because I feel lonely. It's such a sucky paradox.

I'm sorry that you are in a depressive episode. Fortunately, depression is a treatable condition. I would start by talking with a school counselor. In addition, you could ask you parents to make an appointment for you with a child psychologist, child psychiatrist, or social worker who specializes in working with adolescents. Depending on how severe the depression is, you may need to take medication, if you are open to that. My main point is that if you reach out for support you will get help, and with treatment you can return to the life you had before.

I isolate because all of my friends busy my balls whenever they notice I’m depressed. It leads me to do dumb shit and sit in my basement and smoke weed to try and just drown away my pain. All my “friends” do is try and push me to the edge for their own amusement by embarrassing me in front of my peers, putting me down with insults that are uncalled for, and last year I nearly took my own life because I couldn’t stand living anymore, it was just an endless cycle that I couldn’t pinpoint an end to.
Let me say that I would’ve never thought that simply living one day at a time would be impactful until I started thinking that that’s how I live on a daily basis when I’m not going through depression (seasonally). I am married with no kids, my wife is also sick all of the time and cant work. Ive been out of work for nearly a year now, taking care of my father trying to get him to walk again after a complex surgery (and he is walking again now finally, with a cane). With doctors appts every other day, and neither one of them drives I have to be the one to help them most of the time. We have both been living here for awhile now. My mother is mean to us, has a really bad temper and blows up for nothing and loves to stand out on the porch yelling at us for no reason in front of the neighbors, making us look like horrible people when we have done more than most people would to help them. The doctors appts are not as many now, so I am going back to work again and going to get us out of here soon I hope. My wife and I just cant take it anymore, but we cant move far because someone will have to check on them at least every other day. My depression has reached its all time high as of right now.

Everything he said is definitely easier said than done... How does someone who's depressed NOT isolate themselves?? How could you seek adequate support from others when you have no friends, family, or anyone else who'd give half a shit about your problems? I get the over-eating pitfalls & big planning avoidance but every other tip this guy said is just ridiculous & damn near impossible. Don't self medicate when depressed?? Ok man whatever u say... He makes it sound like every normal person in our narcissistic & consumer driven society loves to lend their ears & a helping hand to someone on the down & out. As if access to mental health or counseling is an over abundant commodity in this country. I wish getting help or treatment was half as simple as Mr camp counselor makes it out to be in the video. It couldn't be further from the truth though. For me, self medicating is the only pleasure I'm able to extract from this piece of shit world. Things don't get better.. everything gradually gets worse over time. Anyone who says otherwise is a liar! 😯🤔😶

I agree that it is normal to isolate when depressed. But I try to fight against it and do the opposite, which admittedly is hard.

Douglas Bloch Well yes. Sometimes we try to overstep the fundamentals, thinking they are too obvious.

    first of all: thank you!
I agree with everything you said, but I am still wondering:
I am 26 years old and have struggled with depression for almost my entire life.
it got a lot worse the last few years.
3 years ago I decided to go studying something at university. a big decision. but retrospectively I decided on it out of a state of depression.
now I find myself in a bad place. I do not like my major and the job that comes with it. I am very afraid of having ruined my entire life/my future by this choice. I am also too old and too far into my studies to simply change my major now. I would want to quit, but I don't know what else to do either. naturally have been finding myself in depression once again.
now: how am I supposed to get out of this nightmare? I got into this situation because of depression. and I am depressed because of this situation. there is no light at the end of the tunnel because I will be stuck with a field I don't see myself working in.

people with out physical pain, and depresed, should be very thankfull, they do not have a chronic physical pain, discomfort, with on going pain, you have a big perspective, on feeling down.

I reached out to family and friends and they treated me as if I were crazy and abandoned me. In the hospital, I got one visit. What if people abandon you? What do you suggest?

You can find supportive people through a therapist, an outpatient program or a support group.

Felt really sad while watching this, Quit my job 2 years ago in 2019 while having a severe depressive episode and going through bullying with my employer. I have almost become a hermit/semi-hikikomori. I have cut contact with most of my friends, and have blocked many friends who tried contacting me several times and the 3-4 friends who text me sometimes live miles away. Have withdrawn from most social set norms, have not held a job in 2 years, have no friends, living at my parents home, the future looks very bleak and feel like a complete and utter failure in life.

I’m sorry you’re going through a difficult time but it is not written in stone that you have to continue being isolated. Have you thought of reaching out to a counselor or therapist to see if you can Start reaching out again.

After watching your YT this morning I decided to get up and do things I’ve procrastinated on. Wash clothes, paperwork, cooking, just busy work. I am no where close to being with people. They are depressing and aggravate me. So this is good, thanks for the kick in the big girl pants. I still rather YT vs people around me. I’m getting so smart LOL.
