A Tomtom Rider followed with the used motorcycle i bought after a 36 year break. I don't use computer or phone to define way points or routes. I find it much easier to do it on the satnav itself. It's brilliant!
Good to hear your back in the saddle. Just keep your eyes everywhere as it sounds nonsense, but it's a lot different now. Way to many people on this island now(if your in the UK) & the driving standard is shocking. Especially on the UK motorway network.
Fun video! All the points regarding the TomTom 550 are configurable - fixed orientation and so on, as you are now aware I'm sure! Any reviews of kit like this are priceless for us punters, well done.
Thanks. I thought I was going to love the TomTom, but no. I just couldn't get on with it. I hated the look of it on that mount & loads of things annoyed me about it. As I said in your other comment, I sold it & fitted a Garmin Zumo XT2
I used to live on the Bath side of Bristol and used to go on rides up to the Elan Valley and Lynne Brianne. Now living south of the Brecons. You must have caught the only dry day since November over here! I just use a £50 XGody GPS, it always gets me where I want to go, speed camera alerts, bluetooth to my helmet etc. It does the job, and I hate spending money. Lol.
Thanks David. The truth is I very nearly binned this one off. I literally almost deleted the footage & was going to go straight on to the Helmet Head monkey bike build. After a couple of people told me just to get on with it, I did. I think it turned out okish 😊

Good video, glad you getting on with the TomTom I haven't really used mine much yet but I made the mistake of not listening to it at one point as thinking I knew better and yes I did get lost. Will use it again next week on a tour of the Isle of Wight.
I've got the TomTom Rider 550 Bro, had it about a year now and I love it. You should have said bro, I could have helped you. You can Lock the screen for portrait or landscape mode 👍
🤣 "plug chat" you could have just swapped gloves and solved the problem 🤣 love you and Wookie touring around always makes me laugh. I have the Garim XT which is 1000x better than the BMW shitnav 6. It does get frustrating with the BMW TFT and connecting things as it tends to drop connection for no reason.
Yea I keep hearing about that unit. I'm going to checknit out. I'm a bit funny about putting my hands places. Also have you seen the size of Wookiee's hands?

Bought the tomtom rider a couple of months ago leigh I’m very happy with it I had the same problem with the screen rotating on the odd occasion so If you go settings,appearance,display & then orientation lock Move the slider across 👍 I don’t have voice instructions on so volume on for the speed camera alerts but voice instructions off That’s how I like it

That's sad to hear,don't like to think that either of you are having it rough. Having been there myself many times,that's why bikes are a great leveler and help the mental health

I’ve had the 410 model for a few years now, great piece of kit, not sure of the differences between that and the newer model but wouldn’t be without it 👍
@Ian Cornwell I did know the answer to that as I research the hell out of everything before buying things. I cant remember right now though. I just spent weeks researching backpacks or rucksacks. Wookiee laughs how I research everything. I needed a backpack for a trip coming up in May as we fly to Portugal & I need everything on my for the whole trip. If you look on TH-cam you will find the difference between the TomTom's
I know what your saying. However, your just at an intersection on a motorway & looking to see which bit you need to take & BOOM you get a phone call from a gentleman to ask when your phone contract is ending or do you want fuel cards or who is your card machine with or when does your electricity contract end. You know all those awesome phone calls. Then you've lost navigation at that crucial point. I'm sure phones work just fine. I just wanted a dedicated sat nav.
Another great video, I had my tomtom a couple of weeks that the only thing I find annoying flipping orientation don't know if I can lock it, enjoying the helmet head tour, can't wait to see you all on the monkey bikes looks fun😂
Elan Valley eh, oooh there's lovely isn't it! I was in North Wales for a couple of days this week (should have been longer but.... snow!). Like I have said, I use a Beeline but a very similar system of planning the routes on my computer and then uploading them to the Beeline App. I'm interested to see how the Tam Tam (Scottish pronunciation) works out in France etc.
Yea it was nice there butt isn't it? Lovely seeee. Yea a mate has that Beeline jobby on his Rocket. I've thought about it for my Harley. I'll look into that at some point. The TomTom worked well in Europe 🇪🇺. You'll see soon.

Fallin out of love with my Tom Tom rider 550 but can’t get any phone call info text on my sat nav I do have an I phone. Would. Be interesting to see if you can get it to work as iv been trying for a year x
Well funny you say that. I paired my phone to it with Bluetooth to send a destination to it. I was doing this & then turning the Bluetooth off. I must of forgotten after doing that once. I was riding through France & I noticed a WhatsApp message come up at the bottom of the TomTom. Then I noticed a little telephone icon in the bottom right of the screen. I was ridding for hrs. Later a mate called me & as well as coming up on my tft it also came up on the TomTom. The only negative to this was I was literally just looking which junction to take off a motorway. I quickly used my whizzy wheel to answer the phone & the TomTom went back to satnav mode. So I guess you just pair your phone. In settings. Hit Bluetooth. Then on your phone keep your finger on Bluetooth. Then the TomTom comes up on your phone. Pair them. Then it comes up to allow sharing contacts to the TomTom on your phone I seem to remember. Click allow. Then you should be done I think.
@georgemcray do not do it. I hated it. It lasted 2 trips. I sold it & fitted a Garmin zumo Xt2. I've converted a few BMW cradle's now for customers so you can lock the Zumo with the BMW key. It's the Satnav BMW should of used in the first place.
@@Nightcrawler666 Thanks man. Checking even more, I found more riders who had many issues with it. The Zumo xt2 seems a more sensible choice. When you have the chance it would be very helpful to see a review about it since there are STILL people promoting the 550 even today!
Not sure how you did that txt with a line through it. That's cool. Yea I have the XT2 too. The TomTom only lasted a couple of trips. I couldn't get on with it.

Smart phone with a decent nav app, maps downloaded to save on the data, music and calls all on the same unit straight to my cardo. Easy

Nice video. I'm considering buying the 550 for my bike. Do you still have a positive opinion about it or has anything changed?

I had the Nav 4 ---what a bag of sh*t@------- now had a XT2 great Sat Nav and cheaper than the Nav 6.
