  • In this weeks video I use my time wisely and get the bike out for the run to work and grab a first ride test for the TomTom Rider 550
    This isn't a review video as I haven't had it long enough yet, it's simply a test to see how the TomTom App works in conjunction with the unit and my smart phone. It's also the first live test I've been able to do with a pre-planned route.
    I hope you enjoy the video and please don't forget to like, share and subscribe.

    It’s good to hear you’ll be able to get out soon Paul, unfortunately north of the border not quite the same and unless there is a change, and I hope there is the current strategy is the stay at home message will remain in place until the end of April think it’s the 29th or thereabouts. Not been on the bike since December and as the weather improves it makes it even harder.

    Do not, I repeat “DO NOT” put it on super twisty roads. Put mine in said mode when I firsts got it as we we’re heading to goathland, direct route was about 12 miles, super twisty was 22 miles so I thought no rush I’ll take the super twisty. Big mistake, ended up down really muddy farm tracks & almost into a river😂😬. Apart from that it’s a great bit of kit.👍

    Just got myself a Tom Tom 550 and need to get it mounted. Like the look of your mount that sits between the instrument binicle and the screen. Is that a triumph thing or aftermarket?

    • @BikingBuddies
      @BikingBuddies  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Its not a Triumph thing - it came with the TomTom as standard in the box. The mount is also hard wired to the bike on an ignition switched live feed so the sat-nav powers up with the bike. I'm very pleased so far. Thank you for watching and taking the time to comment.

    Can you tell me how you fitted it to the screen bar ? X

    • @BikingBuddies
      @BikingBuddies  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not sure exactly what you mean by screen bar? If it's the mount to the screen support, the TomTom comes with its own mounting system designed for this type of install.
      If I've missed your point, please let me know.

    Was hoping for a good sat nav review, not a walkabouts of your bike, a local river and GoPro advertising.

    How long will tomtom 550 last without a charge - as I've not got hardwired yet & off to Spain in a couple of days & try and manage with cable and USB point on Street Triple - will have it wired to my Gtpro 900 when I get back

    • @BikingBuddies
      @BikingBuddies  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not sure as mines hard wire. I'd not risk it, just hard wire it in, its a simple task

    Hii.... I am from India and just want to if there is a problem with the device then where to repair it?

    • @BikingBuddies
      @BikingBuddies  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't know. I would have thought send it back to the manufacturer

    Do you need the application in order to be able to do the winding roads option?

    • @BikingBuddies
      @BikingBuddies  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      No not at all - its an icon that you select when mapping a route. If you 'force' the route in a direction you want then it's not applicable. but if you ask the device to navigate you to a given destination, then you have 3 x 3 options of twisty and hilly.

    I use Garmin NuVI LM with lifetime maps "LM" included. I use Garmin's "BaseCamp" and it works flawless. I had a TomTom but was disappointed. None of the features of the Garmin and a tiny screen. TomTom has never been a standard like Garmin has. You won't see a TomTom navigating a Jet but you will see Garmin navigation on almost all private Jets. There is reason!

      Thanks for the view and comment. I'm not a sat nav user to be fair so only need it as back up for the longer trips and so on.
      Horses for courses I guess. If you use satnav a lot, then yes there are much better options available. For me, this works well - or should when we're out of lockdown.

    Please please don't bike tom tom 550 ( rider! Ha! Ha! ). Unless you want to be deafened. As when you get to page190( approx) of online manual. You must rely on your head set to adjust the volume. Which the Cardo Spirit HD just won't. Even if you dissconect the head set, then adjust the volume on the tom tom, as soon as you reconnect head set. Tom tom goes back to original setting. TOO TOO LOUD. So un unsable. Sort your software out tom tom.

      Thanks buddy - I must admit, I've ridden with the TomTom for may 1000's of miles now and haven't come across that issue. I pre planned the NC500 and rode with it for 6 days straight and all was fine.
      Thank you for the comment, it's good to have you along.
