few things that you got wrong, maybe because you are not into Google or Android. 1. That's the Google Assistant button, not a Chromecast button. 2. You can remap TH-cam and Netflix buttons to whatever you want. May be volume because you hated them on the side. That's how android works. A third-party app called Button remapper can change that. 3. You took a lot of time mentioning how Apple TV connects but forgot to mention core features of Google TV like you can search for the movie name on Google and set it to watch later. Google also has much deeper integration with it's other services like Nest products which most people use than Homekit. 4. Chromecast not only works with Android and iOS, but it also works with Mac, Linux, Windows, Chrome OS.
Hey there! Thanks for checking out the video. I realized during editing that I said Chromecast instead of Google Assistant. Oops! 🙈 I didn't realize that about button remapping! Still would feel weird to have the Netflix or TH-cam button change the volume, but good to know. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to cover every feature of either device given limited time, but the watch later feature of Google is a cool one. I believe I did mention that Chromecast works on more devices, but just didn't mention in detail Mac, Linux, Windows, and Chrome. Either way, I appreciate the comment! 😃
Also, whenever friends with various different devices come to my place, with Chromecast I can easily have them cast their photos to the tv to see them. Whenever I go to a friend’s place who has an apple tv, we struggle a ton to decide who casts. We’ve just decided I’ll carry my chromecast to their place each time because the other device that costs 3 times doesn’t support everyones cast.
It's very inconvenient to install an app to remap buttons. And actually I don't know one person that uses Nest products.......I do like Chromecast but still lol
@@josephpepe2607 you would be surprised. There are many who use google/nest products. My kids love it that they can simply say “hey google lets watch king jullians from Netflix “ and volla .. tv turns on automatically.. and runs whatever movie or show you asked for without touching a single button or remote. Good luck doing that with Apple TV.
A counter to the memory comparison... With a USBC hub and a flash drive you can get the Chromecast to have 256gb (maybe more) where as the apple tv is stuck at 64gb. Most people have flash drives laying around and you can get a $25 USBC hub so it's still cheaper than the apple tv. Just in case anyone wants the Google Chromecast with Google tv but thinks it doesn't have enough memory for your needs
Even a year later this is still a worthwhile video. I bought the 4K Chromecast with Google TV a couple of weeks ago, and it's well worth the price to replace my old Chromecast 4K. I don't find the remote to be as awkward to use, I simly rotate the remote in my hand to put the volume buttons under my thumb. I don't use any Apple devices in my flat and I don't see the need to heavily automate my home, so this was the best bang for the buck streaming device I could get.
Great review. I had purchased two Chromecast with Google TVs last February '22. After 3 weeks of use, the CCGTV device on my my main TV started to freeze where rebooting was required. I was stopping and clearing cache on the apps daily to increase memory. The freezing issue occurred once or twice a week but it annoyed my wife enough to where I ended up returning the Chromecasts and purchasing ATV 4Ks in their place. I would consider purchasing the CCGTV's again but only after a hardware update to increase the onboard storage because I too preferred the CCGTV's UI over the ATV's interface. In my opinion, Google needs to increase the storage to a min. of 16GB's because the user is actually left with around 4GB's of the 8GB's once the CCGTV is started. This will cause low memory issues if you add numerous streaming apps like we use.
I have had both. Just replaced my Chromecast (which is so laggy, unresponsive, had problems waking the device up, etc.) and I couldn't be happier. Also, more privacy when using the Apple TV when there are so many logins etc needed to use it. New Apple TV 4k 3rd gen is a beast.

Just a correction, Google also has keyboard on the Home app. You can even replace the remote control with your phone, it does all the functions.
Good video. Very helpful. I have the 2017 Apple TV 4K and I also have the Chromecast w/ Google TV. I find myself reaching for the Chomecast more just because of the remote even though I prefer the Apple TV interface and connectivity with our other Apple devices. I am debating between getting just the new remote or moving the 2017 model to another room and getting the 2021 for the main entertainment room.
Thanks for checking out the video, Chris! I’d probably lean towards just buying the remote separately since you already have the Chromecast, unless you are all in on the Apple ecosystem. Good luck with your decision! 😃
Great tutorial and review ! Thank you ! - I have a really good question ---- If you are "casting" content from your iPhone onto your TV with Apple TV, can you *minimize* that video you're casting from your iPhone, and then use other apps ( while it's casting ? ) I have searched all over and can't find an answer. I have a very old Google Chrome-cast ( version 1 ) and it allows me to do that. So I can be casting a Facebook video for example to my TV with the Google Chrome-Cast device, then minimize that video window on you iPhone and that video keeps playing on my TV, I can then open other apps and do stuff, while that video continues to play. Something tells me you cannot do that with Apple TV.... I want to upgrade but don't know which direction to go in. Thanks for any info Daniel !
Yes you can. I have a gen 1 google chrome cast for my outdoor bar. I can cast sporting events, set it and forget it. I can take calls, even play music via airplay to another speaker. Same can be done with an Apple TV. But to be honest, with Apple TV, it’s much easier just to use the built in apps, rather than to stream from your phone. But I guess you can if that’s what you wanted to do.
Apple TV can natively change subtitles color , transparency, font type and size when watching Netflix. This function is important when watching HDR movies because original subtitles are too bright.
Actually, all Google or Apple have to do to make the best remote is to put it inside a gyroscope. An air mouse I think is the best way to use an interface, even writing a web address is faster. But also allows you to explore a webpage way faster. You could use the plain Chrome browser with it and would almost be as simple as using it on a pc. Imagine the same remote the Chromecast have, but with an extra button to turn on an air mouse. And that's it.
I use my 13 pro as a hotspot. Once it’s set up the Apple TV works seamlessly. Adding HBO max and Disney+ was nice and easy Amazon was a little work but works great. Such a great buy
This was exactly the video I needed. I don’t need someone telling me to go one way or another but just wanted information. The bias around Apple can make it really hard. A honest unbiased Apple vs none Apple review can be hard to find and why I personally feel like there was defiantly a little bias in this video I felt like it wasn’t projecting that bias on to me (my personal opinion). Awesome video. You mentioned Apple Arcade but you did not mention Stadia which is now working on new Google Tv. That is another huge selling point. I have been an Apple fan since day one but year after year I care less and less about Apple and the ecosystem. I switched from my old 4K Apple Tv to the Google Tv and couldn't be happier. When Apple announced the new Tv, I didn't even have the urge to get one. Also, if anyone really believes Apple is not mining your data like Google then you are very naive.
The one note worthy advantage of chromecast is its smaller size. It hides behind TV very well as opposed to bulky apple tv. If you have a mounted TV and you don’t like clutter than chromecast wont disappoint you.
Thanks for checking out the video! Unfortunately, the Chromecast remote uses IR. While not a huge deal, this was another advantage of the Apple TV that I appreciated.
The Chromecast uses IR only for things that require IR like controlling volume and turning off TV if your TV does have uptodate HDMI functions like taking power off commands. There are settings on google tv to set it to have everything controlled over Bluetooth only. Only reason I know is because my daughter's tv has a messed up IR receiver so I couldn't use ANY remote to control the volume. So when I was setting up the Chromecast it had me test the volume buttons but since the IR receiver doesn't work it gave me the option to control the volume through software. To my surprise it works quite well, Wich means I don't have to point the remote at the tv to change the volume. And as for turning off the tv it has a feature that if you turn off the Chromecast it can turn off the tv through HDMI, but your tv has to have HDMI 2.0 and above so you also don't have to point at it. Thanks for an excellent review. Hoping you can assist with the following question as I may have not quite understood it when you explained? I am considering buying the new Chromecast with GoogleTV (Gen 4) but here is what I can’t quite figure out...I’m an Apple user, owning the iPhone 12, iPad, and MacBookPro. Would I be able to cast Netflix, TH-cam, Spotify and Chrome Browser from any of my Apple Devices onto my Samsung TV via chromecast? The selling point in chromecast is the Home Screen interface as well as price-point (amongst a few other things). If this is not possible then I’ll have to go with the Apple TV 4K.
hey i have one of the older chromecasts and an iphone. i can cast from any supported app like netflix, youtube etc so it should work the same in this chromecast! on your computer/laptop you can only cast from google chrome though.
I use the Roku Ultra because Apple TV 4k is just way to expensive, and I'm concerned about Google censoring and blocking apps just like they do on TH-cam.
Absolutely love my Apple TV, had the chrome cast for years, and although I definitely appreciated what it could do, I just found the swap to Apple TV much nicer. It really feels premium. The chromecast as useful as it was, always did feel a bit cheap and less intuitive. Apple nails simplicity.
Thanks. Good information and analysis. I have a question about streaming iPhone app to Samsung TV for a Karaoke set up. Would Chromecast have a lag compared to using Apple TV? Which one would you recommend for this purpose?
Thanks for checking out the video, Vinod! It is difficult to say without knowing the specific app. If money isn’t an issue, the Apple TV is the safer option, especially with you owning an iPhone. However, I would recommend researching other people’s experiences with casting from that app and see if they have had any lag. Hope that helps! 😃
There's no need for a separate third party device like a Chromecast or an Apple TV to cast from Apple devices on Samsung TVs. Newer Samsung TVs (I think 2018 and up), have Apple AirPlay built in. All you have to do is go into the general settings on a Samsung TV and the Apple AirPlay Settings are right there at the bottom.
Greetings Daniel, congratulations on this comparison video. Daniel I would like to see a comparison between this new Apple 4k 2021 against the Nvidia shield Pro 2019. Since Nvidia is the most powerful Android TV BOX on the market ..... And what do you think ???? I wait your answer thank you......
Thanks for checking out the video! Unfortunately, I don’t currently have the Nvidia Shield Pro. If that ever changes, I will definitely make a video about it! 😃
I bought the google tv. For the value, it's great. I just wish the remote was a little bigger, more programmable buttons, and I wish you could scroll down menus faster like how the old iPad would scroll.
I love the apple tv 2017 but I own a Samsung galaxy Phone. I love the picture quality of apple tv and The apple arcade games. And the bluethoot connection is important to me. I havent tried the chromecast tv yet.
Great comparison!... Yes, the value on the Google Chrome is unbeatable. I have one and the only thing I don't like much is the super-light plastic remote control. Buttons are too soft to click and the volume location is awkward.
Had an apple tv 4k '21 sold it and got a nest hub 2 + Chromecast with Google TV, best decision ever. That Apple TV remote was a total pain in the.. the clicks were annoying, the design was to industrial, google's TV set fits more into my home and life. Great job, Google!
I hate to admit it but even though u are most definitely an apple person I don't entirely hate you. This was a very objective view of both devices and I appreciate that. I will say though you did miss a few features on the Chromecast.
Appreciate you checking out the video, Chris! While I do enjoy my Apple devices, the Chromecast is a wonderful device! Definitely what I would recommend to most people, especially given the price. Glad you don’t entirely hate me! 😂
I have both as well and i'm an apple user and absolutely agree with your assessment 💯%, i have the older Apple TV 4k which i really like at my house but got the Chomecast with Google tv for my parents's house and i love it so much, i'm seriously thinking buying another one and replace my Apple TV with it and even though i'm an apple user the lost of AirPlay compatibility doesn’t affect me, also all the security devices i have at my house work with google and i already know the ecosystem since i got a nest hub smart display a while ago and is easy to control with the Home app.
I have an old Apple gen. 3. It’s good but does not warrant the price of a 4K. There’s not enough material on Apple and they want money to watch OLD movies when I can watch them free elsewhere. Cheers from Australia.
My brain is telling me to get the Chromecast simply because of the price, but to hell with it still bought the Apple TV cause the remote just feels much better in the hand  and yeah I am in the Apple ecosystem.
Does Chromecast have match frame rate and dynamic range? I use Apple TV 4K because it matches the frame rate and Dolby Vision / HDR content automatically. I've got a lot of iTunes movies / series as well which I can access. I've not come across any other device that automatically matches the frame rate on any app e.g. for 24fps content.
it does, i also have a lot of movies in itunes which i access through the apple tv app and indeed it matches the 24fps, just make sure to enable 24hz for movies in settings and if your tv supports HDR the chromecast recognizes it automatically.
This video was a great comparison. Had the Google TV since it was released and I bought one for my parents too. But with all these new streaming services that are available , 8GB is not enough on the Google TV. I always have to delete 1 or 2 apps just to download another app. I have no games or any music streaming services installed because space is not available on the GTV. 😑 I just purchased the Apple TV cause of the bigger memory and iPhone remote integration, but what really sold me was that Apple TV connects to your Airpods!! 🤯
Appreciate the support! I would be super interested to hear how that setup works for you once it is updated for stereo in default. Could be the perfect Apple setup! 😃
Thanks for checking out the video, Sean! It definitely is a preference thing. They were clicker than I was expecting, but I ended up liking them. Are you using a different streaming device because of that?
@@daniellangewisch that’s good to know. I have AirPods Pro but it’s good to know any headphones will pair up if i want to purchase non-Apple headphones 🎧
Something glossed over frequently: I'm not naïve enough to believe Apple isn't using my voice transcripts or input data in some fashion to tailor content or product suggestions to me. But since such a large chunk of Google's revenue is in advertising, I avoid their subsidized products. For this reason I'll stick with the Apple TV and their ecosystem. I like Apple's stance on privacy. The fact that they are boasting about their practices in their commercial ads is a sign that times are changing, and more companies in the future will need to collect less / encrypt more in order to compete.
That is a great point, Adam! Apple seems to be really ahead of the game when it comes to the privacy department. I love how I can now tell apps on my iPhone to not track my activity across devices. Great to see that be a focus of theirs! 🙌🏼
Literally just buy the $35 Chromecast and use your phone to cast whatever app you want. I don't really understand the need for a remote when you just can control everything from your phone. It's all about simplicity
I really dislike this kind of approach. I don’t need someone to make a decision for me but I do want accurate information on the options I am looking at so I can make the most well informed decision for me.
Yea. I realize it is a small complaint. I just slightly prefer the location of the assistant on the Chromecast remote more. Thanks for checking out the video! 😃
Apple tv remote has clicky buttons until your 5 year has it a few days then it becomes a sticky mess that cost more then 3 chrome cast max to replace plus it is better then original apple remote but still sucks as far as that dumb touch pad that you always hit when you don't want to unless you have 5 year old hands I guess

@@AneeshaBee thanks a stack for your reply 👍🏻
I use the Roku Ultra because Apple TV 4k is just way to expensive, and I'm concerned about Google censoring and blocking apps just like they do on TH-cam.
Hi,
Is chromecast have HDMI 2.1?
Yes it does! Thanks for checking out the video 😃
Deserves more views, great fair comparison.
Thanks so much! I appreciate you checking out the video 😃
Amazing comparison video man, it blew me away at how little subs you have! Wishing you the best and subbed!
Wow, man. You just made my day with that comment! Glad to have you on this journey! 🙌🏼
@@AthameLover that is a good point! Thanks for the comment! 😃
Great run down. I appreciate your fair review. Subscribed!
Thanks for the kind words, Rodney! Glad to have you on board 😃
Thanks for checking out the video! Glad the Chromecast is working well for you! 😃
Does google tv chromecast support DTS passthrough?
I believe it does!
I love the apple tv 2017 but I own a Samsung galaxy Phone. I love the picture quality of apple tv and The apple arcade games. And the bluethoot connection is important to me. I havent tried the chromecast tv yet.
Good to hear that you love the Apple TV! I agree that it is pretty great! 😃
I’ve using chrome cast for quite a while, so far I’ve never had any complaints
And , costs only $45 ::: nothing wrong with that,,
Awesome! Thanks for checking out the video, William. Glad you enjoy it! 😃
Glad to hear that you are loving the Google ecosystem! In terms of value, Google is hard to beat! Thanks for checking out the video 😃
@@daniellangewisch the only thing that bothers me is that my tv doesn't show up in the supported tv list, but cec works as a charm
“Similar to an old iPod touch”
I think you meant to say iPod, but thank you for trying to make me feel younger than I am 😅
Lol yup. Definitely meant to say iPod! I loved the scroll wheel on the old iPods back in the day! 😃
Good review on these devices, thanks for your unbiased opinion I’m kinda in the same situation I do have both and I see your points as truth ! 😎👊🏽
Thanks so much, Brian! Glad you found the video helpful 😃
Very unbiased video,love it!!! Shared
Thanks so much, Joseph! Glad you enjoyed it! 😃
Use my IPhone😂😂😂works fine already👍
None of them could have think of an air mouse with the remote, you know to use a web browser easily...
Thanks, Mabelher! 😃
I hate the Apple remote. I keep hitting the micro button by accident and it's just too slim to hold properly.
That’s too bad! I can agree that it is not perfect. Thanks for checking out the video 😃
2:23 actually iPod touch is one of them that don’t have scroll wheel 😬
Oops! Must have accidentally said iPod Touch when I could’ve said any other iPod 🤦🏼♂️
Thanks for the comment, Yordan! I agree that the Chromecast is SUCH a good value. Glad to hear your are enjoying it! 😃
I have an old Apple gen. 3. It’s good but does not warrant the price of a 4K. There’s not enough material on Apple and they want money to watch OLD movies when I can watch them free elsewhere. Cheers from Australia.
Thanks for watching!!
Apple TV ❤️❤️❤️
My brain is telling me to get the Chromecast simply because of the price, but to hell with it still bought the Apple TV cause the remote just feels much better in the hand  and yeah I am in the Apple ecosystem.
Haha I doubt you’ll regret it! I love my Apple TV!
You never mentioned video quality….
The Apple Tv 4k is the best for sheer picture quality. I’ve tried them all an definitely not an Apple fan boy….
Hmm I didn’t notice a difference between the two but maybe I missed something. Thanks for checking out the video! 😃
We have cromecast it won’t play my movies I bought on iTunes
This video was a great comparison. Had the Google TV since it was released and I bought one for my parents too.
But with all these new streaming services that are available , 8GB is not enough on the Google TV. I always have to delete 1 or 2 apps just to download another app.
I have no games or any music streaming services installed because space is not available on the GTV. 😑
I just purchased the Apple TV cause of the bigger memory and iPhone remote integration, but what really sold me was that Apple TV connects to your Airpods!! 🤯
Thanks for checking out the video! I agree that the AirPods feature is a game changer 🙌🏼 I have used it multiple times already!
Great comparison! Once I can pair two HomePod minis in stereo as default, the Apple TV will be a no brained purchase for me
Appreciate the support! I would be super interested to hear how that setup works for you once it is updated for stereo in default. Could be the perfect Apple setup! 😃
You can I believe.
Just got my Apple TV4k. “Skid ad” is mission on TH-cam videos. Anyone knows how to fix this?
Hate the Apple TV Buttons, I think the clicks feel cheap.
Thanks for checking out the video, Sean! It definitely is a preference thing. They were clicker than I was expecting, but I ended up liking them. Are you using a different streaming device because of that?
When you interstate TH-cam tv into Google TV
Thanks for checking out the video! What do you mean?
Chromecast 🔥
Nice!! Glad you like it! 😃
would love to us my Sony xm3 with the streaming device
That would be a great setup!
@@daniellangewisch just tested it …it works great 👍
On the Apple TV or chromcast ?
@@soberanisfam1323 I just tried it with my Sony XM4 on the Apple TV and it works great!
I don’t need someone to make a decision for me but I do want accurate information on the options I am looking at so I can make the most well informed decision for me.
you can twist remote and press siri, you don't need twist your wrist
According to you Google tv is lesser in every aspect.
That is not true! Google TV is a MUCH better value. It can do most things that the Apple TV can at a way cheaper price. Thanks for checking out the video! 😃
@@daniellangewisch I didn't expect you to reply after 7 month of uploading video
Damn Apple TV commerical
I actually think the Google Chromecast is the best device for most people! That is something I state in the video. Thanks for watching 😃
review product but almost i see in this video it your face.
You are ALLWAYS paying an Apple tax for a device that is not worth it when you buy anything Apple! It is a fact!
I appreciate the comment! Being in the Apple ecosystem, I find their higher prices to be worth it for me personally. But I can totally understand why you can get more value elsewhere!
Apple products are trash except their new laptops that use a version of Linux
I respectfully disagree. But to each their own! Thanks for checking out the video! 😃
