    Great video! History! American “space race” mania of the 1960s can never be underestimated. My dad traveled a fair amount to Japan in the late 60s and early 70s. Electronic and weird gizmos were plentiful in our home. We were among the first to have Seiko watches, giant spaceman FM radio headsets (with double antennas), kabuki statues, odd carvings, silkscreens, and lifelike rubber amphibians that still look real. Just a guess, but I recall the Japanese guests to our home as being rather short and slight of build. It’s possible that 36mm was just too large for the reserved Japanese gentleman? And a Swiss watch may not have held the appeal of a U.S. model. But yeah, these are crazy cool and I’m going back in time when those ships are ready to pick up the stuff I missed.

Some of my students that were foolish enough to come to me for English lessons (Aussie slang lessons) told me it was a cultural quirk of the Japanese that they come to admire their conquerors and will assimilate many of their customs. I got invited to more Baseball games than restaurants, it was crazy.

However, have you watched The Hodinkee Rolex Explorer Reference Points video from last year? I happened to re-watch it the other day when I pointed a friend that's wanting an Explorer. I had forgotten about it, but they had a Space-Dweller on there. Eric Wind is so knowledgeable and they just have some amazing models that I had never heard of before that point. 1. Interesting niche topic - big fan of this content. Take this over the slew of the same old "lets look at this trending and/or hyped watch" content.
    2. This watch's marketing to the Japanese market by Rolex due the market's interest in space exploration correlates with the abundance of Omega Speedmasters in Japan on Chrono24.
    3. Inserts of stock footage was very nice touch - editing seemed smooth with transitions. The upward trend continues - keep experimenting to be different and establishing you brand!

    • @BrittPearceWatches
      @BrittPearceWatches  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      SALTY APPROVAL! Ahhhhh thank you! You know, doing hyper niche content is my favourite content to make... It's always just a bit of a gamble because it either because a highly viewed video OOOOOR just performs horribly. :( And I know you shouldn't make content for the views! But sometimes when a video has no views it's like "Hmm, maybe just not enough people are interested in this, so I should pivot" you know?! I'm still figuring things out. ^_^ BUT, I LOVE MAKING WEIRD, extra niche videos!
      2. Ahhhh that makes so much sense! I also wondered if it had something to do with the newly established Japan & USA relations?! But this is me taking a leap so did not include it! (This has less to do with Rolex/Omega and more to do with the Japanese excitement around USA and space!)
      3. Ahhh, I wasn't sure about teh stock images! You never know with this stuff. You gotta show the watch geeks enough watch, but I always wanted things to illustrate the story!
      You rock! Thank you for this comment!

      I had a grail watch for a while which was the Rolex 19028 pyramid bezel and bracelet nicknamed the Egyptian. There are also matching dials with pyramid markers or faces. About a year ago I finally tried one on at a local dealer and the 36 mm dial case looked too small on me so its now no longer a grail to me but I still admire its niche uniqueness. That trying on saved me some future hypothetical 30 to 50k. :)
