      Part of racing is cutting absolutely every corner you can to save as much time as possible without having everything fall apart. The inherent risk this poses has to be compensated with a huge amount of skill with everyone involved.

    • @wirefeed3419
      @wirefeed3419 ปีที่แล้ว +34

      The process looks similar but a person can bet there are many Technical differences between the race wheel and the average street wheel change out. Note the much larger size of each lug nut and length of each stud, each is most likely made from special alloy materials less effected by heat, vibration and thread damage. Each lug nut probably costs more than the average complete wheel assembly. The Tolerances, and tightening torque numbers used are probably much higher and also everything is new and likely inspected to be in perfect condition. Then each wheel is only going to be on the car for several minutes between changes not months or years of the average wheel.

    • @merendell
      @merendell ปีที่แล้ว +20

      Nearly every part of that car will be replaced between races. You'd never tighten lugs on a street car like that because you dont want to risk damageing them as they need to last for years. When you engineer parts to take that level of abuse and only need them to last for a single race alot of the "Best pratice" rules go right out the window.

    • @fakiirification
      @fakiirification ปีที่แล้ว +4

      just because hes not using star pattern doesn't mean you should skip it. These cars have to go really fast for a few hours, and wrecks are part of the entertainment value of the event.
      your car needs to go every day for hundreds of days and keep you safe and everyone else on the road safe doing it. and not cost you hundreds of dollars unexpectedly on new tires or brake rotors etc. unless you have a race sponsor to pay for all that.

    • @notrllyMYHK
      @notrllyMYHK 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The star pattern is done to get a nice even seat against the rotor or drum. In NASCAR you don’t have to worry about that as much between the high torque of the guns and the fact that if the tire isn’t seated nice and flush and does develop a wobble or vibration the driver will come back in and swap it out. Same goes for how you should always hit your lug nuts with a torque wrench to make sure they’re all tight enough but the pit crew doesn’t worry about that.The lugs are torqued by the guns. The guns used in the xfinity and cup series have a clutch inside. So when you go to hit them tight, once they get so tight, the clutch engages. So the socket stops spinning. This is why changers paint lines on the socket. So if they question it, they watch the helmet cam and look for the socket.It’s about speed not correctness

      @@knicks5426 like tightening them in an order that goes across the center after each lug nut; in a pattern like how you would draw out a 5-pointed star. I believe this technique is used so that you don’t mess up the camber of the wheel?? It would prevent the balance of the wheel being uneven.

    • @4_14_fan
      @4_14_fan 3 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      Some people do it that way and some don't, NASCAR may have made it so that they have to go circular to avoid them cheating and only putting 3 lugs on, idk I don't really look into that

    • @jacobstein7179
      @jacobstein7179 3 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      You don't really have to do that, it's good practice when seating something to make sure it goes down evenly but in reality, with a wheel it will be okay. It may affect some wheels more than others but notice how the hub seats these wheels well.

      @@andrewtalsness1802 my old man used to tell me that star pattern evens the pressure across the rotor face as you work each lug down. Assuming that still applies to modern rotors, I’d say it’s still the best practice to do on your daily driver, as the standard everyday rotor is likely not nearly as beefy as something required for automobile racing.

    • @knicks5426

      They probably pick them up with magnets or just by hand after the car leaves. The lug nuts are thrown off to the side by the torque of the impact driver so they don’t get in the path of the car as it leaves then they can easily collect them
