I'm a Marine Corps machine gunner veteran and when I first went in, we were given a familiarization fire (fam-fire) of the M-870 shotgun. The instructor said the 12 gauge pump had an international sound language with the pump action. No matter the language, most people know that sound and will turn and choose another direction. This bad-ass little weapon from Henry should have the same effect on any dumb-ass home intruder when they hear that lever action. Nice job, Henry!
Alan does such a great job reviewing these guns. I’ve talked with him on the phone and he does such a wonderful job in explaining things and giving one a real idea of expectations. I also really enjoy the super slow motion on the action when firing the gun. I am really looking forward in visiting the store and meeting him in person. Thanks so much for taking the time in doing these videos. I know how much the setup and breakdown is involved with video shoots.
It’s a great gun, and as you say, it’s a lot of fun to shoot. I’m in a wheelchair and while I love my 12 gauge it has become harder to handle the weight as I’ve aged (70 now). My wife can handle this as well and that makes it a go to for home defense.
The MSRP is much higher than the retail price. I just bought one brand new for $750.00. It took about a week to ship from Henry to the gun shop I bought it from. I don't regret buying it at all, what a fun gun!!! Looks badass hanging on my wall too
If it also chambered 45 Colt like the Judge or Governor does then it'd be well worth it. As for having a purpose other than fun to shoot, it would be a good truck gun for close up vermin. Especially if they find a way to chamber 45 Colt. Out in the bush where I live I can think of plenty it'd be good for.
I read that Abraham Lincoln had a Henry! Good company - I had an issue with my lever action .22 and they immediately sent me a metal upgrade for a plastic part that was the problem, with detailed instructions for self-installation. I've already begun shopping for one of these very cool shotguns!
About the price. This is a fully made in america warrantied firearm from a legacy company. Its a specialty design. And its a quality piece. I see how people are saying its a little high priced but its really not that high. Its a firearm you will likely handdown to your child or grandchild someday, so i mean i guess it just depends on how you are looking to invest.
I'm thinking this would make a great home defense piece. Short enough to maneuver through tight spots, but big enough to be easy to hang on to and powerful enough to be effective. You could load it so the first one or two have bird shot and the rest are 00 buck in case the intruder didn't get the message. Then if there are more of them, you have a great club for whacking the daylights out of them. I really like my Henry .22 golden boy and the 30-30. The lever action is silky smooth.
At close range birdshot will blow holes through people, for home defense every round could be birdshot and you would probably see no drop in effectiveness unless you have a huge home
Nice little backpack or bug out packer for sure. Another channel reviewed it going through ballistic gel... 9 inch penetration at 18 ft with the 4 buck... Slug unloaded it's energy at penetration (mass wound damage will take a lotta starch out of anything). This gun is highly underrated!
I’ve seen a few videos of people firing these traditionally from the shoulder or like a pistol, but shooting from the center chest makes sense. Really cool
There should be 150K subs minimum on this channel. OEO and Alan in particular create excellent videos that are well presented and packed with info and usually do all that in around 10 minutes. Keep up the great work men!

Allen, thank you for this presentation. For my purposes the AXE 410 would be perfect. Although high-priced I'd be willing to part with $820 for it. I love the fact that it is a lever action and can load five shells in the chamber.
As a 410 shotgun, that would be pretty practical. The Mare's Leg type with a bullet, I think is kind of just a plaything really. This would be fun to hunt rabbits, squirrels and grouse with. The 410 is what I started my kids out on because they were very young, no kick. Moved to .22LG then on to bigger, stronger, how to brace against something. I now teach each grandchild at same age their dads were. Teach kids young, remove the forbidden taboo & your kids will not have reason to sneak around or horrible accidents happen. I was raised around all types of firearms, was nothing for a uncle come back from hunting, prop whatever they'd used in a corner & yes loaded. More unloaded assumptions cause more accidents than loaded. I taught my boy's young because several cops even back then told me where you live I hope you always have & carry. If we get a call it's going to be at least 40 minutes but probably longer response time. I started thinking about if someone broke in what would happen to my kids if I didn't make it, what if it's more than one? I taught them everything possible from loading, loading, bracing, which to best use, to clean them. Both are very capable of putting food on the table for their families. I slept with a loaded pistol under my pillow. My kids was taught just as we were as kids, they knew it was there but never once touched it. This new taboo is bad for our kids & grandkids. Every Sunday, holiday, ect was at my grandma's, it was nothing to have 1w, 15 ➕ ➕ plus kids running around or through her home, never, not once was the first of us kids get in trouble trying to sneak to touch & if you were 4 or 5 when a uncle came in hunting he'd say come on let's get this ready for dinner. Just please start teaching your children. Firearms aren't the problem, never has been. Problem is what evil that person holding it has in them. The mass shootings in schools these kids or most were on prescribed Rx meds that specifically state do not administer to people under the age of 18, yet they were & not just one rx but several, doctors ignore warnings that state giving to under 18 can be dangerous, side effects unknown. Ignorance is a huge issue not firearms. Kids social skills went out when people started buying 5 & 7 year olds cell phones, never outside to meet or play with neighborhood kids, video games took the place of being out playing, feelings can't be hurt & no child learns how to lose because we have to make sure each get trophies. Kids must learn young how to deal with losing or by the real world comes into their lives working they haven't the first clue how to deal with real life. Could go on. But it's already too long a comment.
My thoughts exactly. The right less lethal rounds and this becomes a tool for dealing with “peaceful protestors”. Always backed up by a solid PDC of course.
@@sleeve8651 Not nitpicking at all D. Just useful trivia to old farts like us. As a kid I had a chrome version of the rifleman's rifle that fired rolled caps. But what I always wanted was Johnny Yuma's sawed-off double-barrel.
Should have put a saddle ring on it, rather than sling studs, that would make it compatible with single point slings. More practical for this platform.
Straight from Henry, the Henry Axe can handle slugs just fine with a SKEET bore invector choke. Various invector chokes for the Axe using different loads are available through Henry Pride, Carlson, or Briley...even SS Turkey loads.
YES I WANT ONE. ! Have been waiting over 8 months for one. FROM 2 different places. And I am constantly getting an e-mail from henry about a new gun they are coming out with. WHY. ? They can't get the stuff they ALREADY make out, SO WHY come out with something new. ?
People bitch about the price, but then they bitch about shit not being made in America. You want American made, you're going to pay for it. Henry is an awesome company. Awesome companies usually don't give shit away. Especially with American labor, and American manufacturing.
If you are going to get a 410 shotgun know that 410 ammo is typically more expensive than 12 gauge. I would recommend getting a MEC 410 shotshell press. It will pay for itself within a few hundred rounds. I'm reloading buckshot, three 000 with a velocity over 1700 feet per second for 37 cents a round material cost. Compare this to a buck to a buck fifty for defensive rounds from the store if you can find it. Birdshot is 17 cents a round material cost compared to 60-80 cents a round in the store if you can find it.
You can get an m lok rail for it look it up, after market parts for other Henry’s will fit on here. I saw a video where a Henry axe had a rail, a top pictinny rail with a sight and a flash light
Mares legs look neat but are pretty much useless. Up here in Canada we don't have to deal with the "short barrelled rifles or shotguns" Bullshit. So we often will put a full rear stock on them, makes them way more useful.
One of the most arbitrary laws here in the US, would definitely be my first to get rid of due to it's pointless nature. If someone wanted a short gun to "conceal" they would get a pistol right? Government is pretty dumb sometimes.
Kaden Wallis haha yeah, we have more than our fair share of arbitrary firearms laws up here to, just not the "short barrelled" garbage law. If the firearm has an operational (can be fired while in that formate) over all length of 26 inches or more it's considered a standard rife or shotgun, if it's under 26 inches it's considered a handgun (different rules/laws apply). There are many exceptions though such as the mares legs that are under 26 inches are still considered rifles or shotguns not handguns under our laws. Hell, they sell (no joke) 12 gauge 3 inch mag break action shotguns (double and single) with 8 inch barrels! You can buy it like any other shotgun with a full rear stock and on the shelve beside it they sell a production pistol grip for it. If you install the pistol grip it's a handgun, leave the full rear on it a regular shotgun lol. Same as folding stocks, If it folds and can fire under the 26 it's a handgun but install a rivet to prevent the fold (or telescopic) and the same firearm is a standard rifle or shotgun, literally 30 seconds with a file on the rivet head would change its legal classification , just completely arbitrary...
There are a lot of really cool 410 guns out there and 410/45 LC combo guns but 410 is really difficult to find, if there were more ammo options available I would have purchased at least a couple chambered in 410 but as it is today I think it would be a struggle to get affordable ammunition.

I just ordered one and am excited to get it. It will be my second Henry. I would like to shoot slugs out of it. You said you did not try that, and not to take the full choke out as not to damage the threads. Can I safely shoot it with the choke in? I do not hunt, this is strictly a cool home defense / truck gun for me.
Oh ya! I see the butt stock is identical in shape to the end of an axe handle. 410 is excellent and the gun is beautiful, the price is what you can expect for all locally sourced materials, outta my price range but still a nice piece.
I'm surprised they didn't make one that's rated for 45 long as whell so you can put a rifled choke and make use of it as a mares leg or they can make a full sized like the way I described
Love lever guns. I’ve a Marlin 45/70. I’ve a short 870 12g shotgun. I’ve extensively simulator trained with the 870. This is not my personal deal. I want to not only aim at what I’m shooting, I need to account for my round in front of and behind the target. I don’t like this concept. It is a close quarters home defense weapon only but even then if the whole pattern doesn’t hit its mark a neighbor might be at risk through a window or a child in the next room through only two half inch layers of rock. Knowing what you want to destroy and concentrating fire to stop the threat is essential.
You would have just made an illegal unregistered short barrel shotgun, and the atf will come shoot your dog. Or you can go through all the nfa hoopla to register it, before you attach the stock, and the atf won't shoot your dog, hypothetically.
It's a shotgun (technically a non-NFA 'firearm', but we all know it's a shotgun), and nah. A fun novelty, but not really a viable defensive weapon. I guess loaded with like #4B it might be pretty effective, but being limited to 2 1/2" shells makes ammo selection pretty bad. You can do a lot better.
It's not designed to be fired from your chest. It's designed to be fired from the hip. It is a home defense weapon. Not for hunting or target shooting.. Like the shockwave, it's basically a two handed pistol.
@J Calhoun It's actually a good home defense tool. Anyone cab operate it with 5 minutes of training, and you can't really miss from inside of 30 feet. It's a legal sawed off shotgun.

$970.00 ticket price for a sawed off .410 - only in your wildest dreams!
Street is closer to 800
Henry suggests that they encourage their dealer to give discounts...
@snoopy dubnation a .410 slug is pretty much came caliber as 45/70 as far as the projectile goes
I love Henry lever actions.
With the right ammo, seems like a good crowd control tool. Rubber etc.
My thoughts exactly. The right less lethal rounds and this becomes a tool for dealing with “peaceful protestors”. Always backed up by a solid PDC of course.
Soon as I looked at the notification the first thing to go through my mind was "Wanted, Dead or Alive" with Steve McQueen.
Not to be nit picking, but I think Mcqueen's rifle was the
" Mares Leg " rifle !
I can hear him rapid firing it now !
Lol !
😉👍

Not nitpicking at all D. Just useful trivia to old farts like us. As a kid I had a chrome version of the rifleman's rifle that fired rolled caps. But what I always wanted was Johnny Yuma's sawed-off double-barrel.
Well, I guess this one's getting added to the wishlist. Thanks for the review!
OMG where has this been my whole life.... yes please
Should have put a saddle ring on it, rather than sling studs, that would make it compatible with single point slings. More practical for this platform.
Saddle ring would look cool on it. Easy to mod I’d think
Straight from Henry, the Henry Axe can handle slugs just fine with a SKEET bore invector choke. Various invector chokes for the Axe using different loads are available through Henry Pride, Carlson, or Briley...even SS Turkey loads.
Love it - 45 Long Colt please... Or add a side gate to the mares leg finally.
YES I WANT ONE. ! Have been waiting over 8 months for one. FROM 2 different places. And I am constantly getting an e-mail from henry about a new gun they are coming out with. WHY. ?
They can't get the stuff they ALREADY make out, SO WHY come out with something new. ?
This reminds of a shotgun from the show Firefly. Love it!
It really does, also great reference!
omg I was thinking the exact same thing. I love that show so much, I wish they would have brought it back.
@@JessHull It's been so long they would have to reboot the show with a new cast and it would not be the same.
Those slow motion b-rolls are the best.
Sir, i love this review! You are quite the pro at it! Plus you reminde me of my father.
That is quite an interesting piece. Definitely on the short list for me
Thank you for a great review. I had heard about it, didn’t know it was a 410. Makes it real interesting.
This answers all my questions, thanks for sharing.
Super nice an well designed. Wild West look is cool.
Great weapon...the price, not so much.
Henry is generally over-priced. just wait... you will see a Marlin version for under $400.
@Brian Roberts They sell to idiots with more money than brains.
@@timhallas4275 Or people who don't want to buy junk.
@@luvfreedom1470 Henry is no better than Marlin. They sell the name.
@@timhallas4275 I would trust Henry quality control and customer service over Marlin every day of the week and twice on Sunday.
Will it feed and fire the 45 colt cartridge - or just fire in a single round hand feed?
.410 only. No .45 Colt rounds Period. The bore is too tight for .45 Colt rounds.
.45 Colt .44 Mag .357 Mag would be better especially with a standard but stock.
albert johnson it would be illegal it would need a 16 inch barrel
look up henry x
Henry makes pistol caliber mares legs. They are classified as handguns
The reason it only takes the 2.5in shells is because the reciever is the same one they use for 45-70 and that's the correct overall length...
Excellent review! Super-thorough and informative. Thanks for posting.
Different and unique. Loved this one.
You can get an m lok rail for it look it up, after market parts for other Henry’s will fit on here. I saw a video where a Henry axe had a rail, a top pictinny rail with a sight and a flash light
Back in the day in Scotland a 410 shotgun was considered a ladies sporting gun.
leslie phillip
It is a ladies gun.... .410 is a round for killing snakes.
It still is...
I'll take one! My birthday is next month!
tomorrow is 55 trips around the Sun for me.
Happy birthday you two!
I'd love one of those for home defence! I don't suppose you ship to Scandinavia? Is there an European equivalent?
Love levers. Really want one of those.
These people are amazing. Love this store
Yeah, I want one!
Gonna get one
There are a lot of really cool 410 guns out there and 410/45 LC combo guns but 410 is really difficult to find, if there were more ammo options available I would have purchased at least a couple chambered in 410 but as it is today I think it would be a struggle to get affordable ammunition.
Great video, awesome presentation, great staff. thank you
love lever action buuut if my henry golden boy 22 mag is not square when you work the lever it jams about ever 3 rounds. read up on it . seems to be common. but it's sure pretty :) and very hard to clear jam
Looks cool. I’d much rather it be .357/.38. If it’s well made I don’t think the price is unreasonable. Nothing worse than a clunky lever action.
It's a Mare's leg in .410 gauge.
I like the bigger loop action on the mares leg but 410 sounds dope might get one for moms bday
I'm not really a gun person but I can see the appeal of a weapon like this. I commend you on your review. The best of several I've watched, very informative.

Is this the only henry shotgun you have? I like it real easy
I use #4 Buck in my 410.
Thank you for your thorough review!
Oh ya! I see the butt stock is identical in shape to the end of an axe handle. 410 is excellent and the gun is beautiful, the price is what you can expect for all locally sourced materials, outta my price range but still a nice piece.
This thing is GORGEOUS
Josh Randall (WDorA) would of loved this gun as a replacement for mare's leg.
If it was a 10 gauge or 12 gauge the $1,000 asking price wouldn't be too much but for 4:10 that's a lot
I'm surprised they didn't make one that's rated for 45 long as whell so you can put a rifled choke and make use of it as a mares leg or they can make a full sized like the way I described
I was very excited until I released it was a 4.10 I would have loved one in 45-70 or maybe 50bmg lol
This is some of the best satire ever.
50BMG? Lol! More like the Bloody Mess Giver.
It would be a lot more fun if it were half the price 💰 and was also able to take 45 caliber.
Like the idea of putting a red dot or laser for short shots...
I love short sawed off looking scatter guns
Love lever guns. I’ve a Marlin 45/70. I’ve a short 870 12g shotgun. I’ve extensively simulator trained with the 870. This is not my personal deal. I want to not only aim at what I’m shooting, I need to account for my round in front of and behind the target. I don’t like this concept. It is a close quarters home defense weapon only but even then if the whole pattern doesn’t hit its mark a neighbor might be at risk through a window or a child in the next room through only two half inch layers of rock. Knowing what you want to destroy and concentrating fire to stop the threat is essential.
So.... what if you replaced the stock with a full length one??? Hypothetically of course
You would have just made an illegal unregistered short barrel shotgun, and the atf will come shoot your dog.
Or you can go through all the nfa hoopla to register it, before you attach the stock, and the atf won't shoot your dog, hypothetically.
James Borek what if I shoot their dogs first
That is a very interesting rifle, I can see it would work very well as a defense weapon.
Except it is a shotgun....
I love this gun !!¡ .410 /.45 heck yeah !!!!!
I want one , but I'm not sure it's legal up here in liberal land Canada , I think it can't be less than 18"
$700.00+, I think I'll wait until it becomes reasonably priced.
Don't hold your breath. It's made in the USA, it won't go down in price. That means also, it's an investment, not a disposable lighter.
Henry makes a fine group of firearms. I think this would make a fine home defense gun.
Make one that shoots .357mag or .44mag then I will get one. Very nice pack camping gun.
@Dr. Krieger yeah, side gate is the most important part.
Get a Mares Leg
@Dr. Krieger Way fun to shoot, Well made as all Henry's are
It's not designed to be fired from your chest.
Up here in Canada we can’t ever take a pistol out on a hike, ahh, but this is a shotgun! Different rules.....
Shooting from the hip you'd have to bring your hand down to your knee in order to work the action to chamber a round.
I live in cincinnati work in west chester and want to come up an see your guys shop! Super excited for a local tube channel. As well subscribed, inwas curious how much do you charge for transfer fee? I hope to get response and you guys get a new customer and enthusiast.. thanks, Ray
