  • Cold Steel Throwing Star Sure Strike Medium vs United Cutlery Honshu Throwing Star.
Two sturdy shuriken at a reasonable price. Good for target practice, they seem able to take a lot of abuse! The Honsu come with a sheath.
Sure strike : weight: 119,1 gr, diameter: 14,6 cm
Honshu Throwing Star: weight: 105 gr, diameter: 14,5 cm

I recently got a couple Honshu's and I'm very pleased with them.
    Never tried the Cold Steels

Back in the 80's I had a guy pull out a knife on me, I pulled out a star and held him back (always kept a couple in my back pocket), he never messed with me again lol.

I own 12 COLDSTEEL small surestrikes

the small ones are the best ones. i saw a welder alter his in the following way: 6oz steel bearing cut exatly in half, cut sides ground flat to even the weight, then welded to the center of each star on each side. the added weight made the shuriken blade sink into pine boards completely, all the way down to the half-ball of steel on each side. i'm not suggesting anyone put in that kind of work lol

I like the way the honshu looks better . but of course I would sharpen the blades on the honshu on my whetstone . but im sure they both kickass . but the honshu would be my choice of stars . I would like to get 3 or 4 of both . the cold steel stars are made of 1060 steel and im not sure about the honshu . but both are great

do NOT "sharpen" the blades, that alters the flight pattern dramatically. besides, it's unnecessary as you only need the point.

If COLD STEEL makes a Shuriken of the same Diameter as the Honshu, then that is the one that should have been compared to the Honshu Shuriken.
Note: if you really want a Rocking Shuriken, Get the,
    Cold Steel “Battle Star”!

shuriken need to be small & concealable, the size of a wallet is a good measure. what you are describing is a metallic frisbee =/

Battlestar is way too big and heavy maybe a gorilla could throw one accurately

I think the house shuriken looks awesome but I decided to get the cold steel sure strike . They seem to be able to cause more damage and they also seem to have better sticking power . And plus the cold steel shuriken that I ordered is a 3 pack for 28 dollars and the house is 20 dollars just for 1 . So the cold steel definitely is the better deal and when I get paid the next time then I'll order another 3 pack of the cold steel shuriken because I do need some projectile weapons . I have 4 katanas and to tango swords so the cold steel shuriken will beef up my arsenal . Can't wait till they show up

The honshu has better texture and it is lighter, however the cold steel can do more damage. 28 dollars for 3 of these is a good bargain! hope you enjoy them!

    1) no, a shuriken of any kind is NOT "good for self defense" lol get a gun or a very fast-draw pocket knife. 2) shuriken were NOT "weapons of distraction" designed to aide in an escape LOL. imagine 2-3 shinobi pelting a skilled swordsman with a dozen shuriken while using their footwork to remain out of sword range; the swordsman would get shredded without connecting. an archer can only do so much with an arrow, but several archers with a volley of arrows can win a battle, same with shuriken. the actual purpose of the weapon was to pelt someone with a melee weapon from a safe & distance either kill them, wound them enough to take them out of the fight even if alive, or soften them up with minor injuries before engaging in melee combat. yes, they work great as "stop-n-go" ecsape attacks, NO they were not designed for that 3) you've clearly never learned to throw a shuriken...or a knife for that matter (no spin)
