Great topic! Very few channels have covered underwater navigation as thoroughly as you did. This is something I need to work on for sure. It’s easy to think you have it down during the DMs briefing, but still get disoriented during the dive. Especially when visibility is not the greatest. It can be very frustrating if you generally navigate well on the surface (driving, etc.). But I’ll keep at it! Thanks..
Thanks so much for the positive feedback! Honestly I get disoriented sometimes too. I’ve been one of those people with a camera who may track a turtle or shark then look back and realize my group is way further than I thought and my dive buddy is like “what the heck are you doing.” 😬 I’ve improved on that a lot but I’m always working to be better, always learning, and anytime I’m in a new location (which happens fairly often!) I’m way more diligent now about trying to really focus on my surroundings and not just go on auto pilot
Dealing with current and drift. That’s my big struggle currently. You can keep a perfect heading but at the end I still have to come up, see where my land markers are and then line myself up to hit those. Good tips for UW natural markers
Yeah the current/drift will blow you off. Look at soft coral to see which directly it’s blowing to recognize the gentle current you may not notice otherwise. That’s somewhat helpful at least haha
Great question, luckily no I've never had any issues with it. It's a pretty common way to mount a compass so I think you'd be fine in most cases with that.
Who wants to be counting kick cycles? I found time works pretty well. It is amazing how bad you can get turned around in limited viz when you don't constantly keep your eye on a compass.
Unfortunately no, there’s no underwater GPS. The best you’ll get is a dive computer with a digital compass, but they aren’t always the most accurate in my experience. It would be great if one day they had underwater GPS though!
I only have an ASD license, So not requirements navigation deeply. but this video brings to me very good understanding and navigation fundamentals. thankyou ('◇')ゞ
I have to manually translate my subtitles. I just translated into Polish. Hopefully it's accurate enough, it uses Google Translate. Sorry about that! If there's another video from me that you don't see Polish on, let me know.
The instructor manual is on the PADI Pro portal which you have access to once you become an instructor. For videos, which ones are you looking for? Most PADI ELearning videos can be found on TH-cam but PADI takes them down as it’s not allowed to post them. Otherwise once you’re an instructor, you’ll get the eLearning for basically every recreational speciality course, outside of just a few
@@CircleHScuba am interested to do IDC but before that i want prepare for myself, thats why am looking for... i have 100 of questions and also am gaining knowledge by your channel 😁 its awsm😁
That’s awesome! What’s your current certification level? I plan to do some videos on how to “go pro” with PADI some time, maybe I should try doing those sooner versus later.
Congratulations! My best advice would be find out where you want to do your IDC and ask the Course Director there all the questions you have! They will be the best source since they have to have all the updated info and of course they know how they run their IDC program too

Very helpful tips for those scuba divers.
I’m glad you found them useful!
Awesome thumbnail! It's pretty different for you - I dig it though! 😊
Thanks! I had a hard time trying to think of how to show navigating underwater so I figured a map with plotted line? 🤣

Been to Barbados? Saw an aerial shot of Carlisle Bay when you were talking about the shore going North-South!
Sadly I haven’t and that’s from my b roll stock footage 😭
I really hope to go some time though! Good eye!
Does the bolt snap affect the compass since it’s metal

❤ hoping you put up a business like diving school here in the Philippines
Haha we’ll see what I can do Oliver. Maybe one day!
@@CircleHScuba we can do small shop diving center a joint venture it is possible am I right?
Haha some day, not right now for me unfortunately

I don’t love kick cycles either but it’s a thing people do! Haha. It’s one of many tools in the toolbox.
Are there dive computers that have GPS that can be used as a safe reference underwater? If so, could you indicate it?

why can I turn on Polish subtitles on some movies and for example there is no Polish language selection on this one?
