Thanks for the vid, really well broken down and you lot look like a great bunch. Also loved the drone shot, a sped up shot and a line following movements of the search patterns would have been the icing on the cake of great vid. Really helpful - happy diving :)
When my wife and I got certified our instructor invited to come along on a Kayak dive the following day. We said "sure". We had kayaks that would accommodate a SCUBA rig in the back and why not do our first dive as certified divers with our instructor? The next morning we met a small group in Laguna Beach. Off loaded our kayaks and our brand new dive gear. Mounted our weight integrated BC's onto AL80's, set them in our kayaks and off we went. We setup of a reef about 1/4 mile off the beach and dropped anchor. I put on fins, mask, snorkel and slipped into the water. I helped my wife gear up and then grabbed my BC, weight integrated BC. WIth 16 lbs of weight and a full tank...and no air in the bladder. I then watched it sink into the depths as my new 7mm wetsuit kept me on the surface, fins kicking air. The look on my instructors face said it all. He simply shook his head and slipped below the surface. A very long couple of minutes later my rig corked to the surface. Search and recovered...... It's been a few thousand incident-free dives since then but I always over-inflate my BC before every dive now. I also always see my instructors face.😂
This is a great tutorial - Thank you. Just one observation, if I may? When you have the drone shots and your guys walking the search, it may be useful to overlay a line/grid while they walk. 😊
Thank you so much for this fantastic video! It has been incredibly useful, especially as I prepare for my DM course exam. Your clear explanations have provided me with valuable knowledge . I appreciate the effort you put into creating such informative content. Thank you again, and keep up the excellent work!
Hi mate great videos, you might find it easier when wereing gloves to clip the boltsnap on the line to steady it so when feed the line on to the spool it cuts down the chance of getting tanged up ❤
Always coming up with new and fun topics. I've found alot over the years but have been fortunate never to have lost anything. Question, did you find the gopro? 😬
Favorite pattern depends on the mission! For a lost item I like to throw a reference line where they think it fell and do expanding circular patterns. If I’m just treasure hunting I’ll find something to tie my reel to and then pick a heading doing a sweeping search. Come back, head east, repeat. Come back, south, repeat. It just kills time
@@AzulUnlimited a $180 scubapro mask some unfortunate person lost was the best find. 2nd best was a big blue light that I use as my primary currently 🤣. What about you?
Good video! As a former instructor, I have done plenty of searches for student's missing weight pockets in our training quarry!! (I won't say which brand, but they're notorious for not staying secured) But never found the Gopro, even with an underwater metal detector. U pattern always worked best for us, but you only have one pass at it with a silty bottom.
Oh man, I really have to be careful with that. Anytime I bring something into the van, I need to get rid of something. If you, or anyone wants to support what I do, there’s always patreon! That way I can get the real life necessities like tank fills🤣
One tip for using spools or reels, from someone that has been tangled up more times than I can count (though mostly from backing out of places I can't fit). Always extend the hand holding the reel as far as you can. You want the line as far away as you can, also always keep tension on the line, slack line finds more ways to get entangled then taut line. Finally if you feel you are stuck, stop, evaluate the situation then act. I've never had to cut a reel because of these steps.
I has called to help find a Cochlear implant lost while jet skiing in a river. I was told that about a dozen people snorkeled and searched for several hours before my partner and I showed up. We started to set up a jack stay search and while laying the first lined I found it in less than 5 minutes.
@AzulUnlimited I wish them luck, I hope they would find the Gopro. Maybe they should seach somewhere elese too sometimes the current is a little bit different if you were deeper, or it has changed during the night. Or try to dig a little bit. I really wish them all the luck available, so they would find it.

Omgggg i love that story🤣🤣🤣 I’m sure your instructor had a good laugh retrieving it

Totally. I thought about it, but ran out of time editing. Next time!
Great refresher thank you
Glad it was helpful!
Another great video! Thx
Thanks so much!

Aww thank you so much! I’m glad it’s helpful for your course. I love supporting people to become better divers. Be safe out there!

We did not😅 it’s a big area so hopefully someone will find it and return it
Funny story, a lot of the video I shoot for my channel is from a gopro I found during a cave dive. Was impossible to locate the owner 😬
@@billendres3115 hey, at least it's getting some good use!

Ok now the question is… what is the best treasure you’ve found?

@@souswes oooo nice! I once found a compass, but haven't done much treasure hunting. Maybe I'll do more this summer in the busy lakes!

you should setup a amazon wishlist - to help on your scuba or van needs! (and wants) :)

Those are great tips and yes, I should’ve mentioned that. I just find that a lot of people dive without a cutting device so I focused more on that😅🙈

I wonder, did they find the go pro?
Firefighters use the square, mostly, which started big and gets smaller.
They didn't find it that day, but did end up finding it on a different weekend! Sometimes it just takes a few tries :)
