    Underwater Navigation and using a Compass Underwater while scuba diving can be a bit challenging at first, however, it really isn't as hard as some people may think. It can be intimidating, but with a few simple tips I share in this video, you'll be able to use your compass underwater to navigate without any issues. I teach you how to do an out and back reciprocal, as well as make 90-degree turns to navigate a square pattern. I also break down the various types of compasses, such as wrist-mount compasses, console-mounted compasses, digital / computer compasses, and hand-held compasses. While this isn't a replacement for a class like the PADI Underwater Navigation course, I think you'll find it covers a lot of similar information so you'll be ahead of your classmates if you decide to take the Underwater Navigation Speciality Course.

    I was so stressed about having to do this for my AOW this week, but honestly not turning the bezel and instead just aligning E/S/W for the 90 degree turns is such a game changer. SO much easier 😵 I don't know why I didn't even think of this before. Thank you!

    Good show, I like it. January 2024 I passed advanced scuba diving course in Cuba it was with SNSI which is not recognized by PADI in Canada. For underwater navigation I used Perdix it was OK but, when I used compass I can't see other things on display. Next January I'll dive in Dominican Rep in La Romana. It will be with Dresell Divers and I'll take the PADI advanced diver course with them. Today I purchased Suunto SK-8 compass so it will be more handy. Yours video helps to get idea how to use it and understand it. By the way, you have many good tutorial videos. I'm almost 70, but I'm happy from what I'm doing with support form people like you. Thx man.

    You shared this information in person with our AOW group last weekend. I couldn't agree more with your comments around digital. I had to recalibrate multiple times and it's a huge pain to read off the wrist(Perdix compass.) Wish I had followed your method the first time. Thank you for making the video!

    • @CircleHScuba
      @CircleHScuba  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hey!!! Good to see you! Yes, digital is just hard to use and you don’t get the bezel “cheats” that I personally love for basic patterns like 90 degree turns, and the digital compass just doesn’t always seem accurate to me for whatever reason. I LOVE my Perdix but that compass, idk haha.

    Navigation can be a bit confusing at first. I didn’t quite understand it too well during my open water course. When I took advanced open water in Lake Mohave my instructor had me navigate I believe in a square pattern during my wreck dive. There’s a school bus around 50 ft mark I started off at the school bus navigated in a square pattern and counted my fin kicks and returned back to the school bus and it started to make a bit more sense. Very good video explaining how to do it.

    • @CircleHScuba
      @CircleHScuba  17 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Thanks! Yeah it is something you gotta practice enough to keep up on the skill so it’s not confusion next time you try doing it.
      Sounds like a good AOW instructor!

      @@CircleHScuba yeah he’s really good instructor he’s a independent instructor for Padi. My lessons have all been one on one vs a big group which I prefer since that gives me more one on one time. I’ve taken a few classes with him Open water, AOW, and drysuit specialty and would like to take the rescue course next to take me to the next level. I know it can be a physically demanding course but well worth it because it makes you a better diver and a better buddy!

    I love compasses. They're the symbol of adventure.
    And I'm guessing no matter how much the earth's magnetic field changes, even if it flips, this compass you used can still be used to navigate. Like it won't become outdated in a decade or 3.
    I remember watching a video about plane landing strip numbers. If I remember correctly, the numbers are approximately degrees from magnetic North...
    And different airports can have the same number on a strip pointing a different direction from another airport, or what a compass currently says, because, not only they may have rounded up or down, but also magnetic North may have changed since that strip or airport was built. It was a CPG Grey video.

    • @CircleHScuba
      @CircleHScuba  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      That's the skills they have you do for a lot of the navigation specialties for various agencies including the one I'm affiliated with.
      I'd love to do some advanced nav patterns and such though, anything specific you'd like to see? This one was more so for "basics" and "beginners" that are new to compass nav and just need a few basic concepts down. Hard to make a video that's for everyone so I try to target content based on an audience demographic and sometimes it's useful for more than just "beginners" or "new divers" but other times it may just be for a small group of people (for example I did a video on how to get into cave diving that I don't expect brand new divers necessarily need/care about).
