As they say, the first year of marriage is the hardest. Now 54 years old. I married my wife when I was 23, her 20 many arguments and near physical fights, it was rough, but instead of giving in to the devils wishes that separate many couples, I was drawn to U2's music. Anytime I needed an escape I would just pop on the head phones and get lost in the power of their lyrics and awesome music. We toughed that year out and the rest of the years. I contribute much of my needed mellowness to U2. The wife and I brought 3 wonderful children to this world, made it over many rough patches, Im so thankful I always found peace in U2's music. I'm also glad I never left my marriage. Especially when the day of August 19-2018 came when my three sobbing children and I laid my wife/their mom to rest at age 44 from a herndious battle with cancer. U2 is legend to me.

There are plenty of modern artists with just as much talent writing just as well. Music, especially alternative rock, pop and electronic constantly progress and inspire new artists. Tell your dad to listen to The Killers or The Arctic Monkeys, or Oasis, and see if he makes them same cliched out-of-touch comment.

having my husband murdered when I was 23 and being pregnant with two babies, I have felt that my connection with him comes through with U2 music. I saw U2 in November 1987, he was killed four weeks later... its been a long, long road. If only U2 really knew how healing their music is.

For me the line that really hit home was, "Love is a temple, Love a higher law -- you ask me to enter, then you make me crawl." Was so spot on for me when I was ending my first marriage. Song still brings a tear to my eye. That and "I can't keep holding on, when all you got is HURT."

It could've been written with him in mind, but obviously, it wasn't because there were so many man going through the same thing at the time. So tragic. All of the songs I write are deeply personal. I borrowed this tape from my Dad when I was 11 years old in 1992. Then when I was 16, I used to listen to the tape in my walkman on my 25 minute walk to my girlfriend's house every day. Sure seemed like there were a lot of sunny days in 1997. I miss those walks. Then a couple years after that, this song came on when I was eating at a Skyline restaurant with my Grandma.
The memories are great, but now they make me sad. Life is so different these days.

I was not expecting to get emotional while watching Sing 2, but when the audience started to sing along with Ash and then the Calloway started to play his guitar it almost got me in tears. Everything about that moment in the movie was absolutely perfect, especially this song and the fact that it was voiced by Bono himself. They truly did justice to this timeless song!

Irish people hate the name Paty/ Patty. Would prefer it was just called St Patrick’s Day or at bearable St Paddy's Day. We never even hear an English person ever say Paty btw. It's usually Americans referring to St Patricks Day as St. Pattys day. By saying Paty shows Irish people, you really have no clue about us.

UTEOTW is the song that is written from the perspective of Judas talking to Jesus, not this one. That has been well documented in interviews with Bono. He’s said that idea was the inspiration for the lyrics of UTEOTW (but of course, it can be interpreted in many ways, as nearly all U2 songs can by design). Just Google the song facts. Or simply read the lyrics to Until the End of the World, as it’s choke-full of clear biblical references from the Last Supper, to the garden, thru to the Passion.

When you are a teen you won't get the meaning of this song, you would just listen it and ignore it but when you pass your teenage life and become adult you start to understand the music and you appreciate it and when you become old you understand that this was the greatest song ever written with the most unique kind of music.
Actually written about a few things: the disharmony within the band at the time, the german reunification and benefits going to the AIDS crisis at the time. Of course it can mean different things to each and everyone

@@Adpicilina Idk I imagine it was made to appeal to everyone. All you have to do is google the meaning of the song. Also a video made regarding AIDS at that time would never have been accepted and shown on MTV.. A song, lyrics and music can mean anything the listener wants to hear. That is what is wonderful about music. It doesn't dictate unless there is intent and then it would never sell as well. I don't see much in the video that represents any particular story line. It seems rather vague. Most certainly doesn't depict gay men if that's what your thinking. As I suggested, look up the history of the song and it should tell you what the writer/s had in mind. It can mean anything you want
@@Adpicilina also AIDS infected mostly gay men at that time but there were also women who got it and died. Im a straight woman tho I did volunteer to help people w AIDS in the 80s. Iam a health care provider and live in a big city. It was a horrible time when gay men were not accepted. Even very few Drs would accept and treat them at the time. Looking back, it stills leaves a "bitter taste in my mouth" There was so much hatred for people w AIDS at the time. Didn't matter to many if the victim was gay or not. Take the Ryan White story for one example. Many people got the disease from blood transfusions at that time and still treated w distain. I recall in my city there was only 1 funeral and burial home that would accept the bodies of those w aids and that place was torched and burnt to the ground twice. Very ugly time in american history regarding gay men w the disease. A time I don't like to revisit in my memory. Also good on U2 for speaking out on the issue. They have always been at the forefront on controversial issues
Thank you. Some critics say that U2’s One, is the greatest song written. I don’t see it however, I think Simon and Garfunkel’s “The Sound of Silence” Says more than the lyrics and has a more in-depth meaning. It was well written and reached more people intimately than any other. Thank you for sharing my friend. I just love U2. I was at their Concert in 2015 in Toronto. Lucky for me my uncle had box seats and we didn’t have to pay for seeing them. This is my Lill brothers favorite band and he actually cried when we came back to spend the night with Uncle John. I had never seen him cry as an adult.

You notice this song sings and also tonally modulates the words in the background. This is a very interesting concept for creating a song. It gives the song a sense of totality. It's an easy listening experience for an "experience" song.
The story of Samuel Paty is really really sad. He was a Dad, a Husband, an Uncle, a Brother. He was killed for the liberty, the egality and fraternity.

This was the song my beautiful wife of 30 years ago and I danced to at our wedding. When we were dating I took her to see them in D.C. Fell absolutely in love with her when they played this song. U2 has been one of my favourite bands since they first came out. So many great songs! Thanks U2!

This is an incredible song. My husband and I divorced 15 years ago but always loved each other deeply. We stayed close and always depended on the other for certain thing. Our bond was unbearable. We divorced because a one time marital affair. I wish I could have forgiven but I didn’t. The pain was too much. This song tells us that we are ONE and will always be together. Remarried March 11, 2020. We will continue to love. But all the years we missed !
