    NOTE:
What if the card they picked is the mate of your key card? This isn't the worst case scenario, it's actually the best case scenario! Let's say the key card is the ten of spades. Before you go through the deck to take out a pair of cards, ask "you didn't choose a black ten, did you?" If they say "no," carry on with the trick as usual. But if they say "yes," you now know what card they chose. If it was a black ten, but it wasn't the ten of spades, they must have chosen the ten of clubs. So you can play it as if you are "reading their mind." You follow up with "that's right, I thought so -- in fact, it was the ten of clubs!"
    CREDITS:
“The Key Card,” described in Card College Volume 1 by Roberto Giobbi.
“Quick as a Wink,” found in 72 Self Working Card Tricks by Karl Fulves.
“The Last Laugh,” found in Scams and Fantasies with Cards by Darwin Ortiz .
The friction toss was first mentioned in Greater Magic in 1876. The 3-card catch version was first published by Reinhard Müller in 1971 in The Pallbearers Review Vol. 5-8 (Vol. 6 No. 9).

I learned this trick yesterday (April 1st) and I told everyone when I was on the part with all of the cards in the middle that it was “just an April fools joke and it’s not like I can magically make their card appear between the two cards.” And as I said that I pulled the card out and flipped their card over. Everyone’s reaction was great. Their faces went from “I can’t believe I let this guy do an April fools joke on me” to “wait, that’s my card. How did he do that”

I just saw this video and I wanted to try, but I only have a UNO deck, so I took out some cards and left 2 reds and 2 blues of each number to make it work. Tried to make the trick to my mom for the first time and I'm happy to say that it worked three times in a row. You, Sir, made my inner child achieve one of its dreams. Congratulations on the easy to learn explanation.

Daniel, i knew how to do all of these things before I watched the video, but I’d seen an incredible performance by you in another video, and I was intrigued to see what your take on teaching magic would be.
Out of every magic tutorial I’ve seen on TH-cam, this video is the most in-depth and helpful one I’ve ever seen. It does what most don’t, in that there is such a high level of consideration for people that aren’t used to handling a deck of cards. I’m blown away, and you’ve gained a really happy subscriber.
I hope the pandemic isn’t treating you too badly mate. Take care!

Usually they know the bottom card of the deck before they pull it out. The typical rule is you never perform the same trick for the same people twice. Once you've completed the trick you can put any card you want on the bottom of the deck and remember it for the next time you do it. Just use the same deck each time.

I have his video bookmarked for any of those that need explanation on how to "handle" the deck for all those that do tend to ask me about it since you have here so clearly explained in a clean and easy to follow way (Aka: for dummies but politely/respectfully)...
You good sir do not just teach/show the trick... You give very clear directions on how a beginner could actually mold themselves into performing other card tricks out there and even recognize some moves on more advanced presentations.
Like possibly many others: I have been brought to your channel via your very impressive performance trying to fool P&T (which was acceptably a coup d'etat)... but your personal videos here are much richer in presenting a little more of the "Real you". And it is always a gem to meet well educated intelligence of your caliber merged with kindness.
I sincerely wish you the best of luck and the success you so seem to be destined for!
I shall subscribe to follow up on how you become such :)

I do card magic since a few months but never really cared about the basic grips. What I learned is thatt it's more valuable to go deeper in basic techniques instead of learning more complex controls or changes.
I love your style of teaching. Hopefully, you're enjoying it and maybe you'll explore new things as well because I think teaching in a way improves the own learning.

Great explanation and demonstration. We frequently hear people (especially magicians) say that if you know how a trick works, then it ruins the mystery/experience/fun, but I don't feel that way at all. I see magic as another art form, just like music or drawing/painting. Nobody says you can't appreciate music if you know how to play an instrument. Nobody says you can't appreciate Van Gogh's paintings if you yourself can paint well. So it makes no sense when people say you can't appreciate magic tricks if you know how they're performed. For me, the amazing part of any trick is not how it was performed (the method), but rather how it was performed without me noticing it. In other words, what I find most amazing about magic is the skill, the talent, exhibited by the performer. That's why the simplest, least-flashy tricks are always the most amazing.

Thanks for the great instructions, the friction toss is not nearly as tough as it looks when you follow your technique! Looking forward to impressing my niece with this one.

I remember thinking i was so good at magic tricks, until the new kid turned up and we battled tricks. Mine were coins his were cards, when he showed me this i was stumped. I offered to trade tricks on one that worked on him and now this one impresses everyone i show it too. Thanks Canadian Nick
