In the Ricky Gervais show series 3 episode 1 this short essay from Karl "we know too much" is discussed. Somebody called 'Wendy' from Berkshire gets a letter published in.the Sunday Times where she's having a pop at Karls short channel 4 vid and the lads obviously use it to make fun of Karl 😂😂 - but he does fire back at Wendy from Berkshire 😂.
9:50 As Karl explains the Dodo was phased out & replaced by the chicken. People were late for work because their eggs took too long to boil. ...by all accounts they didn't taste good, but they were easy to catch and the options weren't great either when you'd been on a sail ship for months without a freezer.
The museum is the Natural History Museum in London, probably one of the most famous museums and THE museum for the study of natural history. So more effort is put into the fancy exhibits. Its free entry to! Many of the samples and taxidermy animals were collected by Charles Darwin
It was also the introduction of foreign animals. Apparently there were no larger mammals like foxes or jackals on the island. So people brought dogs, pigs, etc. and the competition, combined with them having no evolutionary ingrained fear of such things, was more likely the ultimate reason they went extinct.
He is extremely thoughtful for someone with limited brain power. I think that's why he went bald.. head overheating all the time, not great conditions for the hair. Loved this! 🤗
Fyi the dodo went extinct as it was a flightless bird that was indigenous to one island and the settlers hunted it to extinction. So once it was gone from there that was it. That has happened with many animals indigenous to one place
That was a lot of thoughts ...for Karl! There's a kind of mad logic to all his ideas if you don't think too deeply. Incidentally, the natural history museum in London is amazing, and the dinosaurs do look real, and it's FREE. Karl never mentioned that! Haha 😜😅😅
Dodos were unable to fly, so were hunted to extinction when humans arrived on their island. Chickens can't fly either, but they're farmed so that there are always plenty of them.
The Dodo became extinct due to deforestation, hunting, and destruction of their nests by animals brought to the Island (in the Indian Ocean) by the Dutch. It’s thought they might not have always been flightless.
Several of these random thoughts and stories are expanded on in the XFM radio show. Despite it being an afternoon London radio show, most of the show is Ricky , Steve and Karl talking nonsense often on levels youd never get away with now 😅 Its VERY unfiltered Karl
I remember a similar idea from him that big animals and buildings would cause the Earth to weigh more. He couldn’t wrap his head around that both were made from stuff already on the Earth.
He didn't just think they'd make the Earth weight more; he thought the planet would "collapse", whatever that means in the context of a giant rock floating in space.
All the museum stuff is in South Kensington in London - The Science Museum and The Victoria and Albert Museum. The animatronic raptors are in the Natural History Museum.
Running out of superlatives for your Karl & Ricky videos Mandy... they & you are just so good, you're equally as funny & smart as Karl (hope you take that as a compliment) ... you're the best 🤗☺
The Dodo had no natural predators until man arrived. It had no instinctive fear so it would walk right up to people, then they would just grab them and cook them.
These short clips were fun, they came out around the same time as "Karl Pilkington- Satisfied Fool." A Karl program I've only seen one guy on a treadmill react to on here. Maybe because its not as directly comic and has a bunch of academics and other "thinkers", but its still Karl saying Karl stuff so I found it hilarious anyway.
Well it appears pandas only do one thing, spread bamboo seeds in their droppings, which helps bamboo forests thrive. That appears to be the only useful ecological thing they do. Because he did make me wonder what they do :) And I believe a single pet cat killed all the dodos, or at least played a large role in their extinction
These were made during the period they were doing the radio show, after Karl's unique way of thinking was "discovered" by his chats with Ricky and Steve he got some short films made for TV! 😆 P.S. (Un)interesting fact about the Jurassic Park movie: the velociraptor are actually deinonychus, but the author preferred the name velociraptor so used that instead.
Seriously dude how the fuck do you always manage to drop a video right at the most melt downy part of my day? 😂 there’s clearly just something about lunchtimes that are stressful for me or something 🤷♂️ Thanks for the laughs as always 👍
Dodo birds evolved in an isolated island with lots of food sources and no predators, and they evolved to be too big to fly properly and be slow and stupid. So it was really easy to hunt them and they all got eaten.
@@benwinter5295 Cause they tasted horrible and we already knew about chickens. Dodos were just convenient and must've seemed like a godsend for sailors who'd been stuck on a ship for the last few months. Not just fresh meat, but the damn birds would've seasoned, cooked and served themselves if they weren't so dumb. And, you know, they were there until they weren't. Nobody cared or knew any better. Just hop on to the next undiscovered island and see what deliciousness it has to offer when one runs out.

You ask what Karl does, but he does have a purpose - entertaining the world! 🤣 He obviously should be drinking more water too otherwise he wouldn't have ended up with kidney stones!
As often as we're like "Okay Karl," "Whatever you say Karl," and all, like that, sometimes I imagine myself having an interesting conversation with Karl. "So, props for trying, I guess." That's right, Mandy! Props to everyone who tries. Whatever they're doing, or in life, in general. "Yeah!" ("Yeah" in my Mandy voice). 😄😂 Mandy: What the hell was that logo?! I don't wanna go back! Me: (Went back) 😂 Karl: We know too much. Me: Thanks for your spot in class, Karl. I'm going so I can learn more. I want to know as much as I possibly can. My curiosity gets the best of me. Karl: She had a new lung, a new kidney, and new this, and even such & such was going.............. Just think if Karl was in that condition. He would call it a day? PLEASE save ME. Thank goodness for modern technology and modern medicine to be able to do so, instead of it BEING a day. I'm sure Karl is a good fellow, but I'd rather not have HIM in the science lab trying to cure diseases. And, yes, Karl, I do wish the Mammoth was still around. I do get what he's saying about "we need things to be useful," instead of it just existing for the sake of existing, cause in that case, "Well then why exist, if we don't have a purpose to exist?" That's one point that's always on MY mind. "I just want a purpose to exist. Or else, why was I born? Just don't bring me into existence, if I'm not going to have a purpose." I always think that, myself. At the same time, I want to save life. And, if it's mean, like the T-Rex (since he mentioned it), just put it on an island of its own, like how there's an island called "Snake Island" (not the one in Ukraine), because it's filled with snakes, and so, humans aren't allowed onto the island. Cause it's just that filled with snakes. You can't go one foot (or meter) without running into a snake. Let them have that island.
I think when he wants animals to “do something” he doesn’t want them to do something for humans but just do something new. Like how you expect monkey to be kinda cheeky n fighting n messing about or lions to be hunting (well the female ones, the males tend to just roar a lot 😂) or seals to do that silly clapping thing etc. etc. I think maybe pandas are too much like regular bears to Karl and he doesn’t see the point in them existing aswell or something but trying to see into that dudes mind is something only he can do really lol
The idea that male lions just lounge about all day while the females hunt is a myth. Research has shown that they do hunt, even when they are a part of a pride, they just _tend_ to do so less often. The reason for this is that when they are a part of a pride, they have to always be on guard to protect it and its territory from outside threats, like other adult males. Likewise, research has shown that they are just as efficient at bringing down prey as females are, despite the fact that when they hunt, they do so alone instead of as part of a pack like females. The reason people thought that male lions barely hunted, or even not at all, was because of the methods that they employ while hunting. They are solitary hunters, but what's more is that they are ambush predators. Meaning that they only hunt in tall grass and thick brush, which makes it significantly more difficult to observe their hunts. By contrast, it is much easier to observe a group of females hunting since they chase their prey across the open savannah. It wasn't until the use of GPS trackers that researchers were able to figure out what male lions were actually doing when they'd disappear from view and go off on their own for hours at a time. As it turns out, they were hunting.
Not too sure on the robotic dinos but I’d assume he’s likely in some sort of British dinosaur museum. I had no idea we had them like but I think that’s probably the case it looks a lot like a museum to me

So hilarious!!! There's no evidence that anything natural, including animals, are designed. Besides, if there was a design, all life would be considered awful design.
In the podcasts, he kept going on about medical science going to far, and I always wondered why the others never asked him if it applied to him too. If he gets sick, does he want the doctors to just let him die in the name of Darwinism?
Ricky and Stephen put that very point to him during the podcast. His response was that if scientists and doctors are going to keep messing around by "sticking new lungs on people" and making them live longer, he's going to take advantage of it as well. The thinking is sort of like "well if they're having one, I'm gonna have one too!".
Yeah, they were hunting horses to extinction and warring against each other, which makes them scarcely different from the Europeans who outcompeted them (they just had guns and better immune systems). Turns out humans are pretty much the same no matter where you are.
Yeah, I don't understand what I'm looking at either. The shape of Karl's head certainly is weird. As Karl might say, "I'm not having a go, but...". The "do we need them?" segment that Karl brought to Ricky and Steves XFM radio show was pure gold. This is kind of a spin off but not nearly as funny.
“Didn’t they die out cos they were delicious?” Is the most Karl thing Mandy has ever said🤣🤣
it is the truth though
It was also the introduction of foreign animals. Apparently there were no larger mammals like foxes or jackals on the island.
