- Out of the seven new Savage Gear SGS5 and SGS8 lure rods for bass fishing, this SGS8 9'2'' 9-42g is the one I find myself fishing with the most. This rod covers so much of my bass fishing with the 9-42g casting range - it's very fast and light and responsive and I can't put it down..............

Hello 👋
The rod everyone is waiting for !
Hope so!
Great video Henry. Well shot and edited. 😁🎥👍
most kind, thank you!
Very nice Henry! If it really can work the smaller surface lures, like the Mighty Fishus Espetit and the Baby Patch, but then effectively get the heavier stuff out there when conditions demand, then you could have a real winner on your hands. I hope it does well for you 😊🤘🐟
Thanks John, and yes, with you there, the Espetit is a peach of a surface lure!
Hello Henry, Have you tested the lift power? Rod looks awesome but i expect at least 1.5kg lift.
interesting in SGS5 9'2'' found one today,..what is interesting the action is described as FAST on official site as 9'6'' are listed as F action what means regular fast. So, is there a difference in the action? thank you
Expensive when you can get a 9ft Shakespeare Aspect rod 10 - 40gms at go outdoors for £13.60 have just as much fun and save over £260. Shakespeare tackle have been around for more that 125 years.
cool)) I have it all, it remains to buy this spinning rod))
Ho Henry, how does this rod compare with the Shimano Dialuna 8-45 gr ?
Thank you in advance
I gently ask you Henry another question, how much helps this rod in cast? Some rods have good performance when you put in cast a lot of power, others whit less Power work Better and cast far whitout finish your arm.
Thank you
Nice video Henry 👍

thank you!
Pre-ordered one! Can't wait!
Hi Henry, I ordered one from a Uk Tackle shop online! Savage gear / yourself suggest these are available from June, the tackle shop has got back to me saying it’s gonna be mid July? Is this correct?
My understanding is that the rods and new lures etc. start to leave the warehouse in Poland right now, for delivery into the UK shops
Anyone?? Is the savage gear rods in green colour (sg4 light game rod 75759), the exact same as Ron Thomson 'Shoot Out' Lure rods? They sure look the same, same range, same specs, just different stickers? Anyone?
Went to buy 1 and got told they are going to be discontinued not making them anymore.
They are still available.........
I'd say that's a lot better rod for our windy shore lines in the UK than the 9 to 35 personally speaking anything under 40 grams struggles on a open beach on a windy day in the north
same down here
Hello Henry, very nice Video !! My Question : I cast only 20 gramm and want it to go all out. Which rod should i take ? The till 35 gramm or 46 gramm rod ? I need 2,90 m. Thank you very much...
Just brought myself this rod..hope it lives up to the hype..seems to be everything I was looking for apart from the extra 2 inches🤙🏼
no hype, it's just a really good rod
@@henrygilbey302 feels a little like the old skyroad’s
I loved those Skyroad rods, but I don't think our new Savage Gear SGS5 and SGS8 rods feel much like them at all
@@henrygilbey302 maybe just a little..sgs8 9,2 is a lovely bit of kit..
@@thomaslewisburridge5863 good to hear!
@henrygilbey302 what's your thoughts on plenty of the SGS 8 snapping? Lots of online threads on FB of this rods snapping, mine also exploded on me landing a 5lber...can't find anything on savage gear speaking out about this
I genuinely don't know why some of the rods are breaking. I am still fishing with the final samples from a few years ago, they are perfect rods for me, with no issues.............something has happened to a few of the rods though, I am trying to get to the bottom of it.
I hope not I got this very rod as a gift for Christmas
@@BF4pawntard I had mine replaced thanks to tackleUK. Then first session of 2023 first guide split. So I got that replaced and going to sell it. It was brilliant while I had it, hopefully they've corrected the issues with the newer batches as I got mine early 2022 👍
Hi Henry what is the length of the rod when in 2 pcs? Can't find anywhere online and want to make sure it fits in my travel tube
looks nice, what about the SG6?any review soon? I wanted to order that one because i need to wait until next year until the SG8 is in stock.tnx
haven't seen any of the SG6 rods
Hi Henry, great looking rod!! any idea what the rod weighs? also have you tried the Century Graphex 9'6 (40g) lure rod? any thoughts on it perhaps?
All the new Savage Gear rod weights are here www.henry-gilbey.com/lure-rods-savage-gear
Sorry, I don't know the Century rod, had literally a couple of casts with one a year or so ago, that's been it with that rod
@@henrygilbey302 wow those rods are super light!!! thank you for the info. I am from the tropics...was wondering how suitable it would be for use here. certainly looks the business. thank mate 👍
Looks a bit like Shimano Genos, it's possible to make a comparison between Genos 8-48 and this SG 9-42? Thanks and much appreciated 👍.
I am not very good at trying to compare fishing rods, but this SGS8 is deliberately a little less powerful than the Genos which is an awesome rod but it isn't at all kind to your casting if you're not completely on it. The SGS8 is better with the lighter lures for me, the top end of the Genos is a bit more powerful than the SGS8, and overall for me the SGS8 is a more useful rod
Will this be a Good alternative for sea trout as well? I usually go for something a bit lighter than this😬
I would imagine that you'd prefer a softer tip for sea trout?
Just arrived and waiting to use it with the new Savage SG8 reel when it’s available;) loving the tips and videos
Nice one, enjoy the new rod, thank you!
What waders and footwear are you using?
Vision breathable chest waders, their Koski ones mostly, and these wading boots here www.henry-gilbey.com/blog/so-hoping-that-these-bestard-sar-pro-water-rescue-boots-last-a-proper-amount-of-time-because-they-are-fantastic-to-wear-for-fishing
@@henrygilbey302 Much appreciated.
Henry, no mo’ vids???
There will be, been a bit hectic here
Made in Japan?
No, China, where a huge amount of the world's fishing rods are made these days
My favourite trout fly rod even is a hardy zenith .. and yes made in china. So I wouldn't be afraid of chinese gear nowadays, it's not like years ago.
made by a company called surefish based in weihei China im guessing
Very dangerous to walk on this wet sharp rocks, one wrong step and you could get injury for several months even whole life.
we do just fine thanks, I wear proper boots with studs in them
