    I was lucky enough to have a private tour of Stumpy's just as the owner showed up. He spent quite a bit of time happily answering all my whiskey nerd questions. I felt like it's the closest I'll ever come to meeting Daniel in person as I don't see Texas in my near future.

    Always nice to see them reviewing the local bourbons of the St Louis area. They've done this one, and Switchgrass, and Wood Hat, and a few other's I believe. Very nice!

    The fact that I instantly knew what you meant with the malt comment means the transformation is nearly complete.

    I would suggest something Wheat forward and friendly, Markers Mark was my gateway into Bourbon being a Scotch and Irish lover. Cheers 🥃

    • @dumpeeplarfunny
      @dumpeeplarfunny ปีที่แล้ว

      Wheat has an odd trade off. It softens the flavors at the expense of richness and depth. Ages past 15 years seem to do the same thing. If someone is used to old scotches, a wheated bourbon could be very similar.

    I've been to that distillery about 7 years ago, and I toured their distillery while visiting family. Bought two bottles and enjoyed it.

    As a (mainly) Scotch drinker: the first bourbon I actually liked was Woodford Reserve and when I met Master Distiller Chris Morris he explained that it had been specifically designed to appeal to the international market...

      I prefer Scotch, and I know this goes against what they said in the video, but I really like the Woodford Reserve Double Oak.

    My first bourbon that I enjoyed as a scotch drinker was Legent. I bought a bottle. Michters was also good.

  • @kunzilla

    My bourbon suggestion for a Scotch drinker would be Basil Hayden, Woodford Reserve.

    I spent $45 on a bottle of Blantons several years ago and it's a decent bourbon at that price point. The current price is absurd and to spend that amount of money on a "decent" bourbon is a huge waste when there are MANY better bottles out there.

    • @robviousobviously5757
      @robviousobviously5757 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      that is the EXACT reason so many bourbons are just MEH for the current price point.. they were worth it 15 years ago.. not anymore

    • @DJMarcO138
      @DJMarcO138 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I feel that way about almost all of the Weller/Buffalo Trace offerings. At MSRP - they're GREAT. Anything above that is just trying to flex a brand for cool points, and that's a HARD pass for me. I'd rather spend my money on unique Single Barrels, or Cask Strength bottles from various distillers than go out of my way for clout whiskey. I've gotten way more interesting bottles out of the r/bourbon group than anything I've ever had from BT/Weller and I've never had to spend even close to secondary pricing on any of it.

    I guess i will have to give ole monroe another try. The bottle i bought a couple years ago was nothing but oak, on nose and taste. Might as well have blended oak chips into a vodka. Maybe it was just a weird batch/barrel

  • @applecrow8

    Look, its just whiskey law at this point that if you get a bottle of Blanton's you have to show it off. I've alerted the Whiskey Marshals to this breech.

    As far as bourbon for scotch drinkers, I always think of things with complexity of light flavors, like Eagle rare or something else with a more tea vibe, if they are a highland or speyside drinker...and something with umph like a cask strength Jeffersons, Elijah Craig or similar if they are peat drinkers.
    I always saw the sweetness as the barrier for that transition, so I'm avoiding really caramel/vanilla brands.

    A good gateway scotch for bourbon drinkers is Glenfiddich 14. It’s also a good scotch for scotch drinkers to get acclimated to to bourbon.

  • @TheGreatPoky

    Question/idea
    I don’t have the technical vocabulary to impart this concept properly but hopefully you get the idea.
    If you use a smaller barrel like a Daniel sized one to age your whiskey, rapidly to impart whatever flavors that gives you.
    Logically wouldn’t using a gigantic ReX size barrel in the hot climate of Texas. Wouldn’t that Solve the problem of the heat causing barrels to I don’t know over steep I guess.
    If anybody will understand my question, it would be you Daniel if you would please, rephrase it with the proper terminology, I would appreciate it for my edification.

    I have the solution to storing the bottles that you show on camera without putting them on the floor within the Mooch's reach. Just google image search: dark souls II merchant hag. That is what Daniel needs to do from now on. I'm sure the weight would be balanced out by the medallion.
