That truely is an amazing system and takes so much of the tedious nature out of mining in SE. Im one of the people that like easy mining and not making it harder or more complicated. So this is a BIG thank you for this system and the crazy engineering that went into it.
A guide for setting up SCAM without the tree menu would be handy. I keep referencing this to see if I made errors, only to realize it is focused on a script I don't use haha
I am having an issue when installing the dispatcher. I have checked everything twice and can't seem to get it to work. The other LCD screens work just fine when first spawning it but the MAIN screen spawns disabled and with different settings set than just generating the dispatcher by itself. After changing it to accept the script the blue screen with the interface turns on but nothing else. I can't interact with it at all or fix it. I spawned two dispatchers too, one on my mobile base and another on the ground. The ground is the only one that works properly. As for the mobile base everything but the MAIN screen works. I can work with drones and settings LCD. EDIT: also adding that when logging into the game the one on the mobile base stops working completely. It now just shows a blank blue screen without the interface and I can't seem to find a fix for that either. SECOND EDIT: Upon further inspection, I found the culprit LCD that's interfering with the MAIN screen display. I don't know why the PB is taking over on another screen but I can't seem to fix that now. I am slowly narrowing it down and for anyone else dealing with the same issues, this may be a problem you want to look into. SOLVED: Finally narrowing it down to finding the interference led me to just make a very simple change in the "Custom Data" Code and rename the MAIN screen display with the drone control interface. The solution I found was to simply rename the LCD itself. For example: "Drone Control Interface" and change the "Custom Data" in the PB (Programmable Block - Mining Computer SCAM) by replacing the "command:add-panel:LCD Panel" with "command:add-panel:Drone Control Interface" or whatever you've named the LCD and as long as you have no other LCDs with the same name it should work as intended!
I think there's no limit when it comes to number of drones, however the biggest reasonable would be about 11-13, I found out that any number above that is sub-efficient and additional drones could be dispatched somewhere else instead. I recommend keeping the drones in short proximity to the carrier, as they cannot "learn" complex paths and do not have any type of collision detection, however the only limit is your antenna range.
I've noticed if it locks on that connector it'll turn off or something because once that happens I can't use remote after that. Also seems if it gets shot it'll mess up at leastt one of them did after a Space Rat shot one of mine lol
Is there an possibility that you have an portable Dispatcher that you can print in survival with an projector? And that it automatically detect new ore Patches or that you just enter a bunch of gps points as spots and the drones and the dispatcher are going to there to mine automatically for them without setting them up more?
Nice but it doesn't sound as flexable as the PAM system I like to use. Where you can ad and route drones on the fly without needing to recall other drones, and design your own from the ground up to better meet your needs. I might give it a try though to see how it compares, but yea not fond of how this works with preset designs and such so far. Note the reason I like designing my own drones, is cause I like to design things to meet my own athetic look, and not copycat another's design.
This is automation. The most flexible thing you can do is to mine by hand. I've spend hundreds of hours coding this system to save time, that's the whole point. And there is a literal guide for designing your drone. But I guess most people lack the ability to read through WS description.

Hey, I popped back in after a while and started up a new world with these miners and the dispatcher and I have run into an issue. I can see the mouse on the lcd panels when operating the drones or the dispatcher and I can move it, but it wont click on anything. Using number button commands for the other half of the system works but again, not mouse. Additionally, I can use the e key to disable shafts, but not use my left click on the bottom menu buttons like resume and such.
Ahhhhh that makes a lot more sense. Now to see if I've sorted out the miners just flying off into the distance when they decide to fly back to the docking stations lol.
These are definitely a bit more finicky than the PAM miners but these really are a marvel to watch as they act like a robot swarm. Not sure what was causing mine to fly off into the sky or any of the other issues I was having but given that behaviours would change between recompiles, and game reboots, I'm guessing it's space engineers being space engineers lol.
Hey got everything working perfect, except the Skip Depth function that does not want to work for me. Once in the Skip Depth screen on the LCD it refuses to skip it, pressing E or going manually through the keys does not do it neither. On the Hub screen it does acknowledge that it broadcasted something to the other drones, they all just come back with a cargo full of ice.. :D I live on an ice lake :D Am I missing something with the skip depth or is it broken in 2024?
Is there a way to make the dispatcher work consistently? For the last week or so, the screens won’t power up. I try running a check on the script and it comes back with tons of errors. Probably not a fault on your end, but I’m sure you could create a better system. Plus, I don’t think the “basic dispatcher” author even plays anymore. Or at least something isn’t being updated. I really like the XU-3 miner, but I’ve been forced to use the XU-1 miner because it’s the only one that will work…
Hey, it seems that the script is "borrowing" LCD's from docked drones upon world reload and thus displaying the information on the wrong screen. I think that the issue may be solved by undocking all the drones (starting a new job for instance) and recompiling programmable blocks on the dispatcher. You need to repeat that upon every world reload or after recompiling dispatcher's PBs while drones are docked

Hello, I have a slight issue with the Mod. I created the dispatch the drone and the buttons to get into the menus have a red 'x' on them and read "error". Is there something else that needs to be done, or perhaps conflicts with some other mod?

Hey @wrestling58, after installing it, recompile programmable blocks, and after doing so get into the cockpit that is named like on the video and move your mouse. Another reason that it doesn't work could be that, the custom data of the programmable block is empty. Let me know if you were able to fix it
Great video. Instead of building the basic dispatcher, can I just install the 2 PB's in my base along with the 3 screens and control the drones from a control seat I have already installed? If so, the Tress menus is the actual script needed for the drones to work as shown in your video?
Author here. You can, the basic dispatcher is just a bunch of connectors, screens, seat and antenna, just make sure you name everything correctly. TMC is not needed for SCAM to work, it's just for convenience - you can run same commands directly via PB arguments.
Do you think you could use the SCAM script similar to the the PAM script just for it’s mobile automated docking ability? I don’t care for drones working together so much but I could saw myself implementing a mobile carrier/rig type of design. Would like it if I didn’t have to set docking.

Hey @Who i am, it seems like there's some kind of a problem with the power supply. Try recharging the batteries before you send it to mine, that should help
@@Pro100tv9 all batteries are on max charge the batteries are getting set to recharge everytime the miner docks i even tried rebuilding it and still same problem it mines once it docks and then stays off for ever. the main screen shows every state but if it gets to "docking" state and my miner docked its just stuck in that state and i got no way to get it out of there
When you play in survival it takes a while before the battery recharges. Also it won't go out without hydrogen. Is there any hydrogen output from your base to the drone docking connector?
Is printing/pasting required or can I build the drones by hand and copy the scripts into them manually? Do the docking ports have to be vertical? (What even is vertical in space?)
You can print them, there's a merge block to help with that on top of the drone. Docks need to be vertical relative to the mining shaft, no matter if on planet or in space. That's how the docking and queueing system is made
It matters, in which order the prog.blocks, timers and remote control of the XU-3 drone are built. If the order is incorrect, the timers and remote control will lose action setups and g-setups. Basically, the PBs should be built/printed first, then timers and only then - the remote control and the control panel. It also would've been useful, if the description of action setup for timers and g-setup for remote control were available somehow. So if a user will lose them, it would be possible to restore them manually. PS since timer blocks are located below remote control block, if you are printing the XU-3 drone from top to bottom - you will inevitably lose setup for timer blocks in remote control g-menu. Printing it in other directions will, most likely, result in lost action setups for the timer blocks, which is even worse.
i spawned in the dispatcher and the grid just doesnt work only 1 lcd is broadcasting but all of the up down enter buttons are error can anyone help me fix it
@@Pro100tv9 thats the main problem only the bottom right screen was showing an image but the programmable blocks were broken making all selections or access to the monitors invalid
I'm so confused, on your video you paste in the blueprint and the screens are already working. Whereas mine has 2 blank screens and the top one doesn't do anything. None of the PB's are doing anything and YES, I do have scripts enabled.
At least one screen should be active when the dispatcher is first pasted into the world. You can try recompiling programmable blocks. Perhaps they crashed for some reason. Also can you check if other scripts work for you? SCAM didn't go outdated for sure, I checked it a few days ago and it worked fine

Also could you put in description the commands you have on miner? On servers it doesn't copy the commands you have on key 1 2 and 3 for example. Raycast is there but it's bugged and does not always work as intended. If cheerkin will fix it I will update the guide on how to use it. The description of the drone and dispatcher are updated with the commands. Thank you for a good suggestion! 🙂
Thanks for the great video and the opportunity to try this out for yourself. However, I would like to go a little further. I am trying to copy the parts of the dispatcher to my base. I would like to integrate them into my control room. However, this is not how it works. When is the video coming where you can build a dispatcher step by step by yourself? Like for example with the Rover or similar? Would like to integrate this as I said in my base with its own hangar. :)
After building the blocks, remember to rename them, check if the custom data content matches the ones from dispatcher and recompile the programmable blocks. At this point it should detect drones and be in standby, waiting for the mining job to be initiated

Oh yes, PAM is an entry level mining script, SCAM takes time to learn but has so much to offer when you do. I updated the descriptions both on the drone and the dispatcher. Thank you for a good suggestion! 🙂
@@Pro100tv9 no problem. When learning it and you kept saying press 1 2 or 3 for something and I made it in server (online) they where greyed out. Figured out how to make it mine but not very effective yet. These little videos are great. Touch the surface and show the potential of it

I may combine this with Rdav's autominer script, and PAM to further balance things out. while using Rdav's Fleet Command mark II.

Hi, selecting actions with your mouse is not possible at the momemnt unfortunately. Instead you can select an item using "E" and go back using "Q"

Spawned in, doesn't work at all. Interactive GUI doesn't activate. Are there mods in play here? I can't get it to work.

Probably would, but you'd also need a larger carrier

It matters, in which order the prog.blocks, timers and remote control of the XU-3 drone are built. If the order is incorrect, the timers and remote control will lose action setups and g-setups.
Basically, the PBs should be built/printed first, then timers and only then - the remote control and the control panel.
It also would've been useful, if the description of action setup for timers and g-setup for remote control were available somehow. So if a user will lose them, it would be possible to restore them manually.
PS since timer blocks are located below remote control block, if you are printing the XU-3 drone from top to bottom - you will inevitably lose setup for timer blocks in remote control g-menu. Printing it in other directions will, most likely, result in lost action setups for the timer blocks, which is even worse.
i spawned in the dispatcher and the grid just doesnt work only 1 lcd is broadcasting but all of the up down enter buttons are error can anyone help me fix it
Try checking if the in-game scripts are enabled

Did you try to get into the control seat and use the mouse input? That should activate the main screen
@@Pro100tv9 thats the main problem only the bottom right screen was showing an image but the programmable blocks were broken making all selections or access to the monitors invalid

I'm so confused, on your video you paste in the blueprint and the screens are already working. Whereas mine has 2 blank screens and the top one doesn't do anything. None of the PB's are doing anything and YES, I do have scripts enabled.
At least one screen should be active when the dispatcher is first pasted into the world.
You can try recompiling programmable blocks. Perhaps they crashed for some reason.
Also can you check if other scripts work for you?
SCAM didn't go outdated for sure, I checked it a few days ago and it worked fine
@@Pro100tv9 that's the weird thing. I can't see any options to edit, run or recompile. The scripts are enabled but perhaps I'm missing something else?
Make sure that the experimental mode is turned on. Also - you play on PC, right?
I found I had to get the drone on the connected for it to work.
Thanks for the setup guide. Looks very good. Can you (when you have time) look at quick one for raytracing mining aswell as works with this script I believe?
Also could you put in description the commands you have on miner? On servers it doesn't copy the commands you have on key 1 2 and 3 for example. (Don't know the command to put in for programme block so can use mouse on it as you did in video).

Raycast is there but it's bugged and does not always work as intended. If cheerkin will fix it I will update the guide on how to use it.

@@Pro100tv9 i have noticed that the Timer blocks have also not got their commands, can you say what you do for the Adaptive mining timer block?
Ah, that timer runs the a-miner PB with the argument "toggle:adaptive-mining" and turns on the front LCD that indicates that adaptive mining is on.
The drone just flys straight in the air when place anyone else have this problem

I am trying to copy the parts of the dispatcher to my base. I would like to integrate them into my control room. However, this is not how it works.
When is the video coming where you can build a dispatcher step by step by yourself? Like for example with the Rover or similar?
Would like to integrate this as I said in my base with its own hangar. :)
After building the blocks, remember to rename them, check if the custom data content matches the ones from dispatcher and recompile the programmable blocks. At this point it should detect drones and be in standby, waiting for the mining job to be initiated

The way of using it may be a bit confusing. PAM based mining drones are a good alternative

Oh yes, PAM is an entry level mining script, SCAM takes time to learn but has so much to offer when you do.

@@Pro100tv9 no problem. When learning it and you kept saying press 1 2 or 3 for something and I made it in server (online) they where greyed out. Figured out how to make it mine but not very effective yet. These little videos are great. Touch the surface and show the potential of it
