Frodo is the only one I don't mind without the pupils. He was stabbed by Shelob and went into a catatonic state. This scene at Barad-Dur takes place after that, so I don't mind it too much. Gollum on the other hand....
I was hesitant to get this set because of the price…..but once it was built and put together I truly had a “wow” moment that I finally had it built and how impressive and massive it was. Really iconic set and I’m glad I saved the money to buy it.
Bro you are by far the best Lego reviewer the detail you put into your review and extent you go to to source other sets for comparisons is so impressive. Keep up the great work and don’t forget your bread and butter - the reviews!
Another thing I wish they did with the figures, is the Sauron minifigure NEEDS the tall legs and long arms. He is very tall! And this figure makes him look short.
Vader's Castle was probably based off of Barad Dur. And while it's a cool idea, Barad Dur would completely dwarf Vader's Castle and make it look really lame on display.
A Wizard is never late. Nor is he early. He reviews a set precisely when he means too. I got this set on day one at the Lego store and I love it so much! Managed to snag Rivendell with the Amazon Prime Days and I cannot wait to get that beauty!

Yeah, I actually complained to LEGO about the box battery warning because none of the pictures or reviews around release time actually showed it. They gave me some VIP points...blah.
They got me, I was teaching my french neighbor how to eat batteries since I knew they wouldn’t be able to read the english warning, but now that it’s in other languages they refuse to
All Lego minifigures have pupils, the white dot is just to give them more life. The colored eyes still have the white dots, the way they are doing it makes sense if a character really has different colored eyes but this means most characters are stuck with black eyes
Ah. Now THIS is my area. Unlike Star Wars, I still deeply love the works of Tolkien so I do have nerdy things to say 😅 1 - The build is great, the use of the dégradé on top works really well, and the film-created eye of Sauron is pretty clever (there's no giant eye on the top of the tower in the books). 2 - the minifigures are underwhelming. I get that adding orcs is cheaper but I think everyone would have been happier to get at least a couple of Nazgûl instead. 3 - the proportions of the tower are clearly off. The bottom two sections are wider than the top two sections. Which makes the tower get suddenly thinner in an unnatural way, 'cause in the film the tower is much more proportional. Now, if you're a Tolkien purist like me, you'll be adding more stages to between the bottom 2 sections and the top 2 anyway, as well as removing the eye on top of the tower. But for the casual LotR fan, I think it'd have been nicer to at least have one more section in the tower. 4 - still, my biggest complaint about the set is NOT any of that. It's the same as I already had with Orthanc. The open back. It's awful. This is a display piece. LEGO knows very few people are buying these giant 500€ sets for kids to play with. And so, like UCS sets in Star Wars, I think these sets should NOT have interiors and focus everything on the exterior build which is what will be displayed anyway. Anyway, 9/10 set, and definitely one of my favourites of 2024. Oh and by the way, Orthanc should NOT be bigger or more complex than Barad-Dûr. So having them next to each other does look good. Because Orthanc is, in canon, in fact, smaller and much more plain looking than the Dark Tower. And for a more than a decade old set, I say Orthanc still holds up incredibly well.
One thing I am glad about regarding the Orcs is that they're actually accurate to the movies. Back in the 2012 line of sets, they made some Orc minifigures in the leather tunics they wore at Isengard in the pits and forges. When they made more sets the next year, they just reused these Isengard Orcs rather than making actual Mordor Orc soldiers. Very lazy and disappointing. So, this set is actually the first time we've ever had Orc soldiers and I'm hoping they get rereleased in a cheaper set so we can build armies of them.
That first paragraph resonated with me so much. I recently called it quits with Star Wars after The Acolyte. I couldn't take it anymore. It's such a relief, but it saddens me too. Now we can only hope that Lord Of The Rings isn't ruined too. Rings Of Power is already trying.
@@TheFirstCurse1yeah. To me the Obi Wan series was the straw that broke the camel's back. Fortunately, the Tolkien fandom is far more resilient and ruthless than the Star Wars fandom. these sets are incredible, but i am waiting to see which ones they do before sinking money into one or two. i think my favorite way to get the entire fellowship would be a barad-dur bridge of khazad-dum diorama with the balrog, but honestly mines of moria is my favorite arc in the whole trilogy and any set based around it would be amazing, it's the 1 adventure we get the entire fellowship for and it's the foundations of DnD in my opinion. My favorite castle would have to be helms deep but I just don't know how they could pull it off without the backdrop feeling entirely empty, and without a massive uruk hai army to go with it. So much of helms deep aesthetic is being tucked up into that mountain, but also same issue with minas tirith. I hope they keep making these.

I came here to say this!! Pupil-less is actually more accurate for him! They did it back in 2012 too
I like the no pupils for minifigs depending on the character
And in the Shelob Lego Set he had those same eyes for when he got stung before Lego went to pupiless eyes so it is accurate and doesn’t bother me

Without the pupils he looks in a trance, which would fit when he's wearing the ring.
