Wow. I've been listening to various artist's renditions of this for the past 30+ years. This is definitely one of the best performances i've heard. BRILLIANT!!!

Most people recognize the technical demand of this piece, but it is in my opinion a tone poem of the most beautiful form. Denis is a true artist with a gift for musicality.....often left out of other artist renditions. I'm moved by this performance.

The greatest flutist to ever live, period. This is the best performance of this piece ever recorded. I've seen the greats play it live, and nothing compares to this. Let me say this; It's not just the notes. Denis Bouriakov moves one to tears, there is so much humanity in his sound, his phrasing, his interpretation. I'm bored by 99% of the flute players out there, in fact, I won't listen to anybody anymore. The only flutists I like today are two Russians, a woman and a guy, everybody else sucks to me. No American can compete, and no French players either, they all bore me to death. German and British players are second rate. The only person who had that special greatness, (the ability to completely move you to tears), was Rampal, whom I saw in person 3 times.

votre commentaire est affligeant. comment pouvez vous dire que les autres sont nuls . Pahud est bien au dessus en terme de sonorité . Et puis ceci est un enregistrement

Bouriakov is a fantastic player with practically unlimited ability, and I too enjoyed listening to his playing in this Ibert, especially in a live performance! His sound is powerful and responsive in all registers...but all top players' are. I heard a live recording of Baker playing the 1st mvt of this piece (I think it was the US Premiere), and the luminosity of his sound, precision and all-around perfection of his playing is unsurpassed (to me), and this recording doesn't change that for sure. Rampal/Pahud/Bouriakov/Galway etc are all exciting performers especially on a show piece. But for sheer tone quality, Baker, Baxtresser, Fernand Dufresne, and Bennett are hard to beat. Lorna McGhee is also worth including here. So no, the others don't "suck", definitely not and far from it. Sorry.

@@fltwwq Baker is forgettable, very over-rated, even back in the day. You really don't know good flute playing, so I aint wasting my time discussing flute players. Lorna? You're kidding right? haaaaa

I remember seeing Baker play a program of the Bach sonatas at Carnegie Hall. Anthony Newman accompanied him on harpsichord. It was a long time ago. I guess that would qualify as not being forgettable.
