Alexander Ramm has the greatest expressive range of any cellist I have heard, living or not. This includes all the greats of the recording era. I have been following him since his early competition days and would like to hear him with more orchestras and chamber ensembles world wide. Although my favorite Elgar cello concerto performance is still by far the one by d u Pres with Barenboim it is clear that could easily change if Ramm gets with the right orchestra and gets inspired to create a consistent emotional vision of the piece.
