  • Shimano fishing reels are the pinnacle of reels in all types of fishing. Fresh and saltwater. One reel shimano makes stands alone in its own realm in the world of bass fishing anglers and has an almost cult following.
The Shimano Curado E Series or more well known as the Curado 200E7 and Curado 200E5. They were built almost too well. The logos are still absolutely perfect after 10 hard seasons, the green finish on the reel is near flawless and seems scratch resistant, the gears, spool, level wind, brake, handle, bearings work just as good as they did in 2009... indestructible!! Except the rubber on the grips....
(Why I chose to make this video)
I have several 200E7 Curados 15 to be exact I bought new in 2009 and after going to Shimano after using many other reel brands in 35 years of fishing I never looked back and have dozens of (I) and (K) series baitcasters and all my spinning gear are Stradic Ci4, Stella and Stradic series. I have yet to have any Shimano fishing reel fail on me and trust me, I don't baby my gear at all. They get put to the test every single week.
One more thing to mention, I have never serviced any of these reels and I am a big fan on anything that is of high quality and low maintenance. With my everyday schedule, I cannot afford to have to fix things or replace things all the time.
Aftermarket parts I am not a fan of either. Especially when it comes to my tournament fishing gear. I advise friends and others not to mess with the handles on their reels. Once you remove it and put a new one on or an aftermarket "upgrade" the reel will in most cases never perform as well again.
I have witnessed on too many occasions when fishing buddies that go fishing with me that have tricked out their reels with new aftermarket handles have the reel handle literally fall off in the middle of setting the hook or fighting a fish as well as asking for tools to keep tightening the cap screw and or the handle nut. Basically why I never messed with my 10 year old handles. Even after the grips got soft and mushy. I just cannot shelf something that works perfectly. Well, I found the best solution to this is replacing just the reel handle grips. It is quick, simple and cost effective. About $7.00 total per reel opposed to $35 to $40 per reel.
After an Instagram post I did, the questions came rolling in, prompting me to make this video.
    I hope this helps!
