    Another split vacuum line in my 2005 Toyota Highlander causing check engine EVAP trouble codes PO442 and PO456.. Should apply to Toyota and Lexus vehicles with 6cyl 3.3L engines..

    God bless you man! I'd like to add that everyone needs to understand first how the vacuum system is designed and works. I wasted time with the gas cap in the beginning, later tested the purge solenoid connecting it directly to the battery and it was good. Never thought to check the bottom of the hoses. Best 3.5$ spent on that telescopic mirror.

    For anyone out there. Stay away from the stealerships. Check hoses and try spraying soapy water mix . Check for bubbles

    I have a 2005 Lexus ES 300. Getting this code regularly. I changed out gas cap which worked for a few months, but now its back. I'm definitely going to pick up one of those mirrors and check these hoses! Thanks for the info!

    Wtf dude, another spot on video, my car had both the exact same leaks that you showed, and it was under the pipe where I wouldn't see it !!!

    This was the exact issue on my 04 highlander. Had a small hole&crack on a small vacuum hose, I used "Wrap fix" by Duct tape and it fixed the code P0456. Thanks so much for this video!

    Great info. These types of error codes can also be caused by something as simple as the gas cap not being on tight (which was my problem), or the seal in the gas cap degrading and not making contact when closed. Good tip on clearing the codes. Thanks for this video!

      I bought gas cap and someone said drive it 35 miles and the codes will go away if that’s the case and it wasn’t for me 200 miles later still on. Do I have to clear the codes?

    Fellas, do yourselves and your engines and all the components sitting on top of them a big favor. Take off those fancy no-good plastic covers and never put them back on. All they do is trap heated air and degrade those plastic components and rubber hoses underneath it. God bless you all.

    Thanks for posting this!! My 2001 Lexus ES300 had the same exact crack on the same segment of hose. I didn't need a mirror to see it though it was right on top in plain view. I replaced the part with 12mm ID hose, cut to length and some new hose clamps. I just reset the computer and am going to monitor things closely. Curious... could this be the cause of a TON of white smoke on cold start from my tailpipe? I get white steam looking smoke for the first ~20-30 seconds on a cold start, only like 5 cold starts a week do this though.

    • @tongo117
      @tongo117  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      You're welcome for the posting.. Your fix was much better than mine w/elec tape.. As for the split hose causing the white "smoke" I would say unlikely.. Unless the "smoke" stops after repair.. From what I've read the "smoke" is most likely steam.. Could be just normal condensation burning off at startup or could be sign of trouble.. Main thing to monitor would be coolant level.. If you are frequently having to top off reservoir you may have coolant leaking into engine and that could be what's burning/boiling off at startup..

    • @MuvoTX
      @MuvoTX 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@tongo117 OK thanks... My coolant levels are very stable. Under the radiator cap its always full, and the over flow reservoir is also always on the full line. I have been monitoring that closely too. I'll keep an eye on things though. thanks again!!

    • @MuvoTX
      @MuvoTX 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@tongo117 OK thanks. My coolant levels have always remained really steady on this car, radiator is always full right under the cap. I top off the reservoir maybe 2 times a year every spring and fall. Just routine stuff to keep above the MIN fill line. The white "smoke" I mention above is not smoke, or smoke from burning oil it most certainly is steam. I place my hand in the exhaust flow and its definitely damp with steam after 15-20 seconds. The tailpipe inside wall is also damp with water to the touch. It does not smell of gas or radiator coolant. Engine oil under the fill cap area and dipstick remains clear-clean oil... not miky / cloudy at all.
      I am going to keep a close eye on all the EVAP hoses and OBDII codes. Going to throw a roll of electrical tape in my glove box too. I kid you not that steam was alarming to say the least... its like a mushroom cloud of 70s disco fog. I cant even see out the rear view mirror. And its ONLY for like 30 seconds on a cold start... weird. The other weird thing about this is my check engine light remains dark/off even with the PO442 code in the computer. If I didn't have a code reader, I would have no idea. So thanks again!!
      Oh... you mention the "elegance" of my hose solution. Not so elegant thanks to Toyota. The engine side requires a 12mm ID, which is a common hose dimension. The air intake (plastic) side however needs like 15~16mm... I had to STRETCH the hose over that plastic part. I used a little sillicone grease to lube it up, and I got it to fit. My concern now is the hose could burst, or split from being stretched so much and slightly bent at an angle.

      If you just want to repair the split section you can take the hose to any auto parts store and match the size/diameter.. If you want the whole assembly this would be the one for my 05 Highlander: www.ebay.com/itm/234606250085?itmmeta=01HS78KKDM89G533VMZN5PBE0E&hash=item369f9f4865:g:EGAAAOSwr~tjRsWd&itmprp=enc%3AAQAJAAAA4PvqWEu%2Bu%2FI4MVyKIxosYf5GVM3L%2BIANAPExla21yCJI13xf5Am%2FOnYAGg5nXDr7T5Hbnn10mzYaM5EYCXM8xc0LVhitwEXBh8vkm2SlcABY2Dxdhmps9FZDTj8EHMRAsi71kB7dfbqMxMWcoe%2FURJxOwR6A7pct9WJsybsRfgZDtRNi46AGB72gJ1QVLtedjDIXeIRJ0wENQeBb2sqsodxezwRyRkkc6jMQFFBKu8n7hMoOSy57%2FQovVDqC5KMSag%2FzPPLH%2FlCIKGbSlDwD3bwNh%2Bvkih8L38NM%2B9YvLZgo%7Ctkp%3ABk9SR-y2zujJYw

    • @tongo117
      @tongo117  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      if you are talking about the check engine/vsc/trac off lights on your dash disconnect your negative battery cable for about 20 seconds and then reconnect.. That should clear them.. If they come back on and you get another EVAP code you may have another leak somewhere..

    Did you ever get a code for the split in the hose on the other end of the steel pipe where you found your first hose leak?

    • @tongo117
      @tongo117  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      No.. That split is in pipe insulation.. Underneath is solid metal pipe..

  • @twenty1sixer216
    @twenty1sixer216 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Is a split like that big enough to cause idle change if you sprayed carb cleaner on it? Because I got a p0442 p0456 and can't find which hose it is, I've replaced the gas cap and sprayed all the hoses. No idle change..

    • @tongo117
      @tongo117  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not sure.. Both times i've found split hoses i found them pretty quick.. So i didn't need the carb spray trick.. I do know for a fact that the carb spray works if you hit the right spot.. Found a failed throttle body gasket on a Lexus ES300 and a bad intake manifold gasket on a lawnmower that way.. Don't forget about the charcoal canister under the car above the exhaust.. Vacuum lines there too and a vent control valve that can fail/leak..

      FWIW my 2001 Lexus ES300 had the same EXACT evap hose crack, except mine was much bigger and right on top. I did not need a mirror to see it. I actually had a little bit of engine oil leaking up through it. I just bought new hose (12mm ID) and some new hose clamps and completely replaced it.

  • @toanphan6774

      I'm not 100% sure but this may be it?
