Just acquired a Reolink RLN16-410 for our church and this video really helped me move forward with my installation that the supplied documentations do not provide. This is a very thorough step-by-step guide to the installation of a new NVR security camera system. Now I understand what I did wrong with the initial set-up that I thought that I could do through my cell phone. Thanks for a great video!
Appreciate the detailed information on setup with the wizard, LAN connectivity, client software for PC and phone app. You answered many questions I had. GREAT VIDEO! Most other TH-cam videos just fly past the wizard and the things a user runs into which does not answer questions users have for the wizard.
Nice walk through. I think the wizard might be different now. For example: I didn't see ntp settings or the ddns. There are quite a few things that are not hard as you mention, but not clear until you figure it out. The cameras auto-connecting is perhaps the easiest part.

On Reolinks webpage they state "dont use with other than Reolink cameras". I need confirmation (becuase I am extending my system), Does this 8 and 16 channel PoE NVR work with Annke C800 and an older TrendNet camera??

Initial setup should be done with a monitor plugged into the NVR. With the NVR hardwired to your network you can manage it over managed using your cell phone or PC over Wifi.
Hello, i need your advice...tell me please, i bought a new RLN12W NVR, installed and managed to activate my cameras , but i dont understand, now i can unplug the internet cable from NVR to let this on Wi-Fi or must be always connected to internet with cable? This NVR is not with cable ad wi-fi?
@@HomeTechDIY Ah, i understand, thank you very much. I noticed, because i unpluged my internet cable and the cameras gone off. IS bad, because i bought a new Tenda TX27 Pro router, and damn router have only 2 LAN's, in one i have my laptop and in the other one i have a Boavision Camera at my balcony, for my car. I tried to add this non Reolink camera to my NVR and i didn't succeded, i tried with onvif setting and with IP, but i couldn't add this, i guess Reolink don't allow other cameras to connect with their things. Any advice please, how to connect this camera with Reolink NVR? Can i add something in one LAN port, to make from there 1 LAN for camera and one LAN for NVR? Is there any device i can plug in one of the 2 LAN'S? Forgive me, i am new with these things.
Since your router only has 2 ports, you can split one of the ports into many using an unmanaged network switch. This will give you more ports for other devices. Here is a picture of how it works: cdn.ttgtmedia.com/rms/onlineimages/whatis-network_switch.png Here is an example of one on Amazon. Connect this to your router and you will have many more ports. Make sure you have enough CAT6 ethernet cables. Switch link: amzn.to/4bunkOn You are on the right track to add the Boavision camera to the Reolink NVR. Make sure ONVIF is turned on in the Boavision camera. Manually enter the Boavision camera's IP address in the Reolink NVR. It should look like 192.168.0.?:8080. I am not familiar with those cameras, but you might even need to setup up an ONVIF user in the camera's app. That said, certain cameras are not compatible with the Reolink NVR. Hope this helps.
@@HomeTechDIY I tried last night both ways, onvif and ip, i didnt managed to connect Boavision camera with Reolink NVR, maybe i did something wrong? The NVR add the camera, but saying failed to give me image.
Yes, I recommend the TrackMix camera. I am reviewing it right now and should have it published this week. reolink.com/product/reolink-trackmix-poe/?aff=216
A switch or even several switches can be connected to the LAN port with no issues. Only the important configuration to get the basics working were setup in this video. Do you need help on a particular screen?
I like to run my desktop computer with two monitors. If was to get this system, would it require a separate monitor to run and view the NVR? Kinda don't want 3 monitors on my desk.....are there options for this I wonder?
You might want a separate monitor for getting the NVR initially setup, like I did. But afterwards, you could use the Reolink Client on your PC to control the NVR, including seeing the live feed and playing back and exporting past footage.
hi I have a question , I will be setting up the reolink NVR with my reolink argus 3 pro wifi camera as you i will be testing first. but I will be setting up in a remote area of the house so i doin't understand how to boos the wifi signal. If i get a wifi range extender this will cretae a different network and different ssid and thertefore my wifi camera will be useles.. how can I solve this problem?
I think you should be able to configure the camera to the WiFi extender. The NVR and the camera will be on the same network even if the network has multiple WiFi access points. Also, is that camera battery operated? If so, I don't believe NVR will work with it.
No, it doesn't prompt you. The NVR will automatically delete the oldest footage file by file and create room for new footage as required. It's like a rolling timeline. If the drive is full, it will delete 1-2 old files to make room for the new one. Once it's full again (an hour or so later), it will delete the oldest 1-2 again and write the new.
Hi Thanks for the video. Is there anyway I can record some Reolink CCTVs that live on a different network (if I get their IP address and port numbers?). I noticed in your video that you had CCTVs from a different network?
I have just purchased the NVRRLN8-410 with 4 D-500 cameras. Where can I find the UID number for the cameras as there is nothing to scan? Also how can I connect these cameras to reolink client for windows?
Can you recommend an HDMI splitter that actually works with the Reolink RLN16-410 model? I lost count on how many I've bought and none of them worked. I have 3 screens to share the images to but cannot find an HDMI splitter that's compatible in 4k. I've talked to Reolink customer service and I was told there's none, but I refuse to believe that because I found one from Walmart, but it shoots the image in 1080. Any idea ? Thank you in advance :)
I’m trying to replace a SwannView NVR with this model Reolink RLN8-410. I have 6 IPOE Swann cameras from the previous installation. The system does not recognize the cameras. Any ideas?
I just bought my Reo setup. How loud is the NVR on a regular basis--like a network switch loud (i.e. continuously running internal fan)? I'm trying to decide whether to place the NVR in a cooler remote location or my office.
How to configure this in VR if I don’t have Internet at the building. I simply connect the cameras directly to the NVR. I also have a monitor connected to it. However, the cameras did not work.
Correct, Internet is not required for setup. What is the error message on the camera screen? Is this a brand new system or were the cameras activated previously?
@@HomeTechDIY I think it’s just give me a blank picture. I did not take a picture when I was setting that up last week. But I can do that this weekend. Yes I tried setting up that system at home with an active Internet. I thought that you would keep the settings and would work at the other building without Internet.
That is strange. Sounds like you're doing everything right. If it worked with Internet is totally should work without. It also shouldn't matter if the cameras are plugged into different ports on the back. Look on the Camera page to see if there is an error that could help.
I followed your instructions , but it does not recognize my cameras . I`m confused . I e-mailed support at Reolink so many times . no one contacted me . I guess I have to return it back to Amazon. By the way , great video . Thumps up .
When you connect your cameras to the back of the NVR, are the little lights on the RJ-45 ports illuminating? This will let us know if the cameras are powering on and if they are transferring data to the NVR.
@@HomeTechDIY Good question. I didn't check that. My old NVR is HikVision .I don't know if that's has something to do with it. Model; NR31P8-8 . I guess I have to try out again. That was a great observation do.
Question: If i'm in a remote location can I call up all the cameras from my mac book pro via the internet and do real time monitoring minus the obvious delay due to electronic proccessing?, if I have the NVR connected to my home router??
I want the 16 ch but w| 12 cameras, can i choose to have those 12 cameras show ONLY without having to have 4 black boxes that shows “video loss”? Or what are the camera boxes configurations/options for a 16 ch?
Within a home or workshop, yes, these are great in low light. If you considering using these inside in a warehouse or large business, then in you may require IR illuminators to assist with those distances.
I have a problem with my NVR everytime I dont have TV on after a while it seem to go to one of the Video Loss pictures even if all them (Video loss) are disabled from previewing. So when I turn my TV on to check CCTV after while its on single video loss previewing which I find very strange. I also disabled auto reset and preview tour. Unless it's done by power cut????
My NVR won't sync the NTP. It doesn't have the "no network" message showing so I'm assuming it's connected. I can't get remote access on my phone either, says it connection failed. Any ideas?
If I have continues recording 24/7, can I export for example a 45 min long clip from the nvr? I want the full clip and not multiple 5 min clips for example.
Excellent video!!!! I was at 11:21 and seen that you have non Reolink cameras working on your POE+ switch with the Reolink NVR. I was wondering if you could share your settings for those cameras please? I would real appreciate your help with this and many more of your subscriber probably would like the same too. This would make a great video if you have the time to spend to let all of us know what works on your system. Thanks again for your time and we all really appreciate your hard work to make theses excellent videos that you share on TH-cam!!! Oh have have Dahua cameras if this help.
Can you record and play back at the same time in the software when connected to the network? I will not be connecting to the internet, as this will all be done on the local network. Any help would be appreciated. I am looking for a PoE camera that records at 30fps or better where the footage will be able to view numbers on moving objects (sports racing)
@@HomeTechDIY did you end up testing this? I have the same Q...cant seems to get the correct port/frame rate settings so that ColorVu are seen by the reolink NVR
I'm having trouble setting up my email but that's a different issue. I mounted all my cameras and hook them up to the NVR and then set up my reolink app. But when I turned off the Wi-Fi on my Android phone I could not connect to the cameras. So I connected the NVR to my router and connected it to my television to try to run the setup. I did not see anything in the process on how to tell the NVR with the Wi-Fi name and password is. Is there a step or two that I am missing in order to view my NVR data on my Android phone when I am out of my Wi-Fi network
The NVR does cannot connect to the WiFi, it has to be hard wired into your network. Are you cameras plugged directly into the NVR or are the LAN cameras which are connected to your network and then accessed by the NVR? It sounds like you cameras are LAN cameras. When adding devices to your phone, did you add the cameras or the NVR? I think you need to add the NVR and the cameras will appear.

The IR lights come on automatically in low light situations and remain on all the time. Their functionality is not connected to the motion detection for these cameras. The Argus functions differently however.

Can all 8 cameras be connected to the nvr via the poe port? Or is it a case where it only suports 4 poe cameras? Thank you for your expert input on this matter.
What is the model number of the NVR? It should support the number of cameras as there are ports. Are the camera reset to factory defaults? Is there any error message for the cameras on the IP Camera page on the NVR?

Hi mate. I hope you can help me out. When i connect my reolink camera to the nvr it works. When i try to scan the code to add it to my pgone it says connection failed. When i plug the camera straight in my router with a 12v adapter it connects. When i try to connect it to the nvr again it fails. Because the nvr probably uses another ip adres then my router. Any help is much apreciated.
Hi! When a camera is connected to the NVR, only the NVR can see that camera and you cannot access the camera directly. That's why your phone is failing to connect. Reolink did not open the ports to allow direct access to cameras behind the protection of the NVR. I think it's a security feature since the camera's don't require passwords when attached to the NVR. You should be able to access the NVR over your phone and then access the camera through the NVR's credentials. You could also add the camera to your network, using your router and the 12v adapter, and then add the camera to record on the NVR.
@@HomeTechDIY the thing is that i cant find a lot of options on the nvr. That i can find on the app. Is this true or am i missing something? Thx for the effort to reply
Which options are you looking for in which networking scenarios? When the camera is connected to the network, you will see all the camera options on your phone but when the camera is connected to the NVR, you will not see any camera options.
It still seems odd that you cannot see the camera's feed on your phone when it's connected to the NVR. Are you able to see the NVR device on the Reolink app?

Can i add something in one LAN port, to make from there 1 LAN for camera and one LAN for NVR? Is there any device i can plug in one of the 2 LAN'S? Forgive me, i am new with these things.
Since your router only has 2 ports, you can split one of the ports into many using an unmanaged network switch. This will give you more ports for other devices. Here is a picture of how it works: cdn.ttgtmedia.com/rms/onlineimages/whatis-network_switch.png
Here is an example of one on Amazon. Connect this to your router and you will have many more ports. Make sure you have enough CAT6 ethernet cables. Switch link: amzn.to/4bunkOn
You are on the right track to add the Boavision camera to the Reolink NVR.
@@HomeTechDIY Yes, i will send you a email soon with pictures, thank you very much for helping me, i apreciate this.
I have a reolink system and the cameras aren’t ptz with 2-way audio, can i buy one that and use it with my system? Thanks.
Yes, I recommend the TrackMix camera. I am reviewing it right now and should have it published this week. reolink.com/product/reolink-trackmix-poe/?aff=216
@@HomeTechDIY thanks for the reply and recommendation, ill be sure to watch your review 👍🏼
so if you set up these cameras to 4k and your monitor is HD would you be able to view the play back video to your Hd monitor ?
Yes, the image looks to be in 4K to me.
What dc power supply do i need for the reolink RLC 520A
Very helpful, thank you
What about using a switch and why skip all the necessary screens?
If you fill the hard drive does it prompt you? Does it overwrite old data and start anew?
No, it doesn't prompt you. The NVR will automatically delete the oldest footage file by file and create room for new footage as required. It's like a rolling timeline. If the drive is full, it will delete 1-2 old files to make room for the new one. Once it's full again (an hour or so later), it will delete the oldest 1-2 again and write the new.
Does it work with a hik vision camera?
Hi Thanks for the video. Is there anyway I can record some Reolink CCTVs that live on a different network (if I get their IP address and port numbers?). I noticed in your video that you had CCTVs from a different network?
You can record the cameras if they are on your home network or connected to the NVR. The cameras you noticed were connected to my home network.
I have just purchased the NVRRLN8-410 with 4 D-500 cameras. Where can I find the UID number for the cameras as there is nothing to scan? Also how can I connect these cameras to reolink client for windows?
Question, Is it good idea to buy 4k monitor with this reolink system?
Can you recommend an HDMI splitter that actually works with the Reolink RLN16-410 model? I lost count on how many I've bought and none of them worked. I have 3 screens to share the images to but cannot find an HDMI splitter that's compatible in 4k. I've talked to Reolink customer service and I was told there's none, but I refuse to believe that because I found one from Walmart, but it shoots the image in 1080. Any idea ? Thank you in advance :)
Thanks for the informative video.
Hello, what could be the cause of having an HD cctv with great quality in the monitor but will become blurry or pixelated upon replay?
Sounds like the live stream is displaying the main stream feed and the recording is a sub stream.
Can you remove the blank screens with video loss text and only display the used cameras?
Kinda. You can show 1, 4 or 16 cameras. You also have the ability to show one large channel and several small ones.
There is no internal fan. See a full breakdown including this information here: th-cam.com/video/zwq16tF2FHc/w-d-xo.html
Will do. Thank you sir.
Can you add more than 8 Reolink cameras if you have a separate Poe switch?
No, the NVR will only show and record from 8 cameras, no matter the configuration.
@@HomeTechDIY
Good question.
I didn't check that.
My old NVR is HikVision .I don't know if that's has something to do with it.
Model; NR31P8-8 .
I guess I have to try out again. That was a great observation do.
@@nino18654 what are you using for cameras? Reolink or HikVision?
Very helpful my friend!
Great informative video. I have just received my system. I will let you know how I get on using your video for guidence.
Or what are the camera boxes configurations/options for a 16 ch?
is this good for indoor use? like are they good in low light
Within a home or workshop, yes, these are great in low light. If you considering using these inside in a warehouse or large business, then in you may require IR illuminators to assist with those distances.
Thanks 😊
Can you tell me which wireless mouse would work with this system? thank you
I don't know if any wireless mice that works with the Reolink NVR
Great video thank you
can i constantly view the nvr with the monitor connected
Thank you very much
I have a problem with my NVR everytime I dont have TV on after a while it seem to go to one of the Video Loss pictures even if all them (Video loss) are disabled from previewing. So when I turn my TV on to check CCTV after while its on single video loss previewing which I find very strange. I also disabled auto reset and preview tour. Unless it's done by power cut????
Is it possible to set it up without monitor using just mobile app?
Would my ColorVu camera run on the Reolink nvr or only on Hikvision nvrs?
If it supports ONVIF, it should but I have not verified this yet.
@@HomeTechDIY did you end up testing this? I have the same Q...cant seems to get the correct port/frame rate settings so that ColorVu are seen by the reolink NVR
Can you do this with a computer?
The initial setup needs to be done through a monitor connected to the NVR, but once it's up and running, a PC using the Reolink app works great.
Hello if I want inside to app reolink and want connect my camera from 4g connection in my phone and not from Lan how I do this I want to be in work and see my camera, it's don't work only if I connect to router in home pls help me
How can I see your videos on veezoom start up
Sorry but I haven't done any videos on that brand
do you have any videos on veezoom nvr & cameras. having trouble putting cameras on phone@@HomeTechDIY
Unfortunately I do not.
The ir lights do they stay on all the time or do they turn on via motion detection
The IR lights come on automatically in low light situations and remain on all the time. Their functionality is not connected to the motion detection for these cameras. The Argus functions differently however.
@@HomeTechDIY ow ok thanks bit annoying if on all the time at night are they bright
What type of lens does it have? Is it a 2.8 mm lens? I keep reading that it is a 4 millimeter lens. And if that is true that's horrible
It has a 4mm lens with a viewing angle of 87° X 47°. It's a wide field of view due to its huge 1/2.8" CMOS sensor. For more information on factors that influence viewing angles, see my detailed view on the subject: th-cam.com/video/e2e05usL3Sg/w-d-xo.html
Hay can this nvr works with more than 4 cameras as it has 8 ports
Yes, this NVR will work with up to 8 cameras total between the PoE ports and any network cameras.
@@HomeTechDIY not sure whats happening but when i connect the cameras only 4 of the cameras are coming up on the nvr. Can you help please
Hi Sir. Is it possible to connect 5 IP cameras in 4 channel PoE-NVR, will it work & will recording save in HDD ? If yes then please tell me in detail, how to do it.
I have a Hikvision 4 channel PoE-NVR DS-7604NI-Q1/4P. I am using 4nos. 2MP IP cameras but now I want to install one more IP camera about 15 meters away from the NVR. Please help.
It is not possible to use 5 cameras on a 4 channel NVR.
@@HomeTechDIY Not even by connecting extra poe-switch or poe_ethernet injected/splitter or by any method?
(Actually I see some videos in which they connect 6 or 7 HD cameras in 4 channel DVR. But I don't know if it is possible in case of a NVR by some other methods. )
I might be wrong, but from what I understand, it's not possible.
Hell, please i need your help here: i installed my new RLN12W Reolink NVR, i connected on this two E1 zoom Wi-Fi cameras and one Reolink Video Doorbel Wifi. But now, i have a conflict of NVR Wi-fi connections 2.4G/5G with my router Wi-Fi connections 2.4G/5G. If i name the Wi-Fi connections from NVR like router Wi-Fi connection names, i get conflict...if i give them separate names than my router, the caemras dont connect anymore. Any advice here please, how to fix the problem?
What’s the frame rate limit? Can I set all cameras to record to hdd on a FPS of 30 or higher?
@@HomeTechDIY thats my problem yes. Im thinking of buying a poe switch and connect the nvr and cameras to that. That should fix the problem i guess.
It still seems odd that you cannot see the camera's feed on your phone when it's connected to the NVR. Are you able to see the NVR device on the Reolink app?
