Persson is a great character for poker. He may have gone over the line with Phil, but it was mostly friendly banter on HSP. And let's be honest Phil absolutely deserved it and then some. Very satisfying to watch
If you really buy into the he was too harsh with Phil, slap yourself.

It only gives Tom more possible info at this point in the hand.
Of course Tom's going to talk at that point. Persson won't have another decision to make no matter what so it doesn't matter how much information Tom gives. Tom can only stand to gain by talking facing an all in river bet.
Atleast I get to find out that Persson's not that kind of terrible person at all. And man, Dwan was awesome here. Hope to see more from these two.

Really liking Persson. He’s an action player who loves table talk and isn’t afraid to play for monster stacks. Dude is great for the game. They should have him on Hustlers.

Honestly this hand in general reminded me of old school Dwan from 2010 or so. He did the whole robotic gesture to put his chips out. And him, Patrick, and Phil used to talk like this a ton. Not to mention the other guys.
This is what makes poker a little more fun imo.
Definitely a Villain who is shaking up the scene. Love to see it. People laugh at this type of play but it’s effective. Especially when you get the other player to talk.
Getting Tom to talk when Toms the one facing the situation is not advantageous. It's just an opportunity for Tom to collect more info. I'm almost certain his talk here reduced chance of a call

This is why you wait to judge players over a period of time and not a few weeks... its absolutely not effective, people used to think this was his character, but actually, hes just an awful player.
I know ppl can try to do a reverse tell but wasn't Persson way too talkative and comfortable to be bluffing, after a huge bet?

He acts the same way when he’s bluffing. He’s actually better at balancing this stuff than you’d think.

One of my favorite videos on TH-cam ever! He got Tom to talk and uncover what he's thinking in a hand progression. This dude 100% talked Tom out of considering a call but I feel Tom would have folded anyways but massive overbets in the dark have been called in the past by Dwan so who knows!

The thing is that players with Tom Dwan's intelligence doesn't let this get to them. It's just annoying for the most part.
You just get them to like you a little bit so they're less obnoxious towards you.
Tom didn't even look annoyed though. He was laughing, got the information he needed, and used it to correctly make the fold.

I think his hole game is to confuse his opponent by talking so much he doesn't let them think. He will have to do bluffs the same way to balance his range which will be difficult, otherwise his success will be very short-lived.
Persson was trying to do to Dwan, what he did to Helmuth in the heads up. Dwan didn't fall for it though.
Hellmuth plays with his heart, Dwan plays with his head.

The fact that Persson milked Dwan for an additional $2K at the end to show his cards, was just pure genius. Dwan was going to see it anyway when the stream came out. Might as well make an extra $2,000.00.

I'm really starting to like Persson. The heads up against Phil was legendary. Definitely a guy I'd like to sit across the table from and have a few drinks with.

Ive taken horrendously bad beats, just today i had A K vs. TQ. Flop. AAQ, get it all in turn is Q, river? Yup Q. So i identify with phil, this perrson guy tilts me !

Go watch the heads up with Helmuth. He made the correct decision in almost every hand. It's not about how you play when you're running hot but also minimizing or altogether avoiding big losses when you're behind. He seems legit

Person is the underdog, the guy who knows his stuff but probably feels so under appreciated
I don’t typically comment, but Dwan’s overall stronger ability and lengthy history in the game (vs top competition) should have elicited a quicker fold…however I don’t mind the verbal interaction Dwan has because Tom is superior in utilizing such info to summarize a correct decision.
I have no ‘love nor hate’ for Persson, but it’s clearer than it looks (this particular hand and others): he’s a glaring amateur that’s been given his ‘15 minutes of fame’/spotlight. This behavior isn’t new and some of his antics (unfortunately) will be a copycat blueprint to other amateurs or new players.
IMO, Tom had this figured out long before he decided to actually muck and just milked Persson for any info (verbal, physical, etc) he could soak for future confrontations (and other pros at the table certainly noticed for their benefit as well).

No one debated he couldn’t do it with air or doesn’t have that capability. It was overall summary of this hand only versus a capable pro as Dwan. It isn’t ‘favoritism’ for any specific player herein. 🙄
@ZLcloud22 all these people calling him an amateur meanwhile guys way out their league. Eric Persson the only poker player Dwan ever had a cool interaction with. Ludwig Botez and Persson are the only ones that got Dwan joking around and be himself and laughing, all these years playing..

Well played, Tom. First, not letting Persson's bs talk get to him, but then turning it around and inviting Persson to talk even more, thereby sensing his confidence level. It became clear that Persson was too confident, so Dwan mucked his cards. Tom Dawn, one of the best players around, but too often with bad hands--just unlucky!

I’m not the best poker player but you can never call someone that talks this much during a hand .... I learned something from an old guy who passed ... he said always beware of the speech

Dwan thought he had a read. Apparently you haven't watched much of Dwans play over the years. He does this quite a bit chasing hands and when he hits the golden goose he gets paid off.
For starters, he was stuck. When these guys get stuck the loosen up and look for opportunities to get money in so when they get there they can win a big pot. Secondly, he was obviously targeting a couple of the weaker players.

Bro, that's so dirty. Like not in a bad way just to feel that confident and know you bet him in and got lucky in the playout where you have the nuts. I mean I don't think the title is accurate just such great luck and play on his part.
This was a very different demeanor than before and I don't think he leaned with the arm hanging on the back of the chair, that was a tell related to his hand strenght on his match vs Helmuth.
