Man I can only only imagine the feeling the pilot flying searching for his friend got after seeing the plane burning on the highway (probably assuming the worst). it had to be the biggest relief of a lifetime after getting the text saying he was okay! Great job on the pilot from being able to walk away from it!
He stuck to this training. Gathered all the information to figure out that he was not going to make the airport and came up with a plan B. Confidently flew the plane to the accident site. No screaming, panic, stalls. Just pure balls.
The video on this channel “ Pilot makes a terrible mistake on family vacation” ties to this video The pilot of N36402 was the owner of N8353T at the time of the crash of N36402 . A friend and CFII purchased the Dakota from his estate and had it on leaseback at a local airport. Small world!
I'm guessing he decided to use the Lance that day due to it being able to hold more passengers. That was a sad deal N36402 was ripped to shreds and the pilots jacket was found in a tree.
Is it just me as an old pilot from the Midwest or something else? But why are these distressed pilots always asking for vectors to the nearest airport? WTF? Maybe I’m just special, but I was trained to always keep a situational awareness and maybe have a sectional map handy! Forget foreflight and iPads. Or Maybe instrument flight plans make pilots complacent? Not judging anyone, just an observation.
When you have no where else to go it’s much better for a chance to live than landing in a field and hoping your plane doesn’t catch a rock and flip you over..

Wow calm pilot, must be the German accent 😂, very professional, on point
I hope no one on the ground was injured either, glad the pilot is okay! I’m sure the owner was never happier to get a text from that pilot!

Aviate. Navigate. Communicate. He did it all and lived!
The other airport looked closer TCY
No one even mentioned the war
"I mentioned it once but I think I got away with it.."
Right…who is this then? 👉
"Well you started it!"
'No we didn't!'.......
Fawlty Towers fan?

Not many walk away dead.
Oh, I’ve met a few dead men walking in my time.
The amount of GA aircraft crash landing on highways is getting ridiculous.
