The Lexus LFA is a V10 legend. It has a blistering 9k rpm redline and an exhaust that was acoustically designed by Yamaha. Beside it sits another V10 monster, the road-legal race car the Lamborghini Huracan STO. Thomas has taken the helm of the STO and James is behind the wheel of the LFA. Although both horsepower and torque favour the Lamborghini, giving it the best shot at victory, no one can lose when you put two screaming V10s beside each other. Am I the only one who thinks Huracan sounds equally as good? Mid-engine usually has better intake noise in the cabin too.

@@The_Stanman the Huracan sounds no where near as good, and that’s objectively a fact. The Carrara GT doesn’t get compared to the huracan sound wise and that should tell you everything you need to know 🤷🏻♂️

I think that'll be the 'place' for combustion cars in the future. We'll know they aren't as fast as electrics, but people will buy them for the experience and character, the theatre!
@@JBVXR I ordered an is500 for that reason, I could have gotten a faster BMW or Audi but a NA V8 will give so much more enjoyment over the years and as I plan on keeping it for a long time it will still be running great in 10 years unlike the germans

The LFA is one of the best sounding V10's ever made. Arguably one of the best sounding engines ever made, they spent so much time on sound alone and it paid off in a big, big way.

It's amazing how much the LFA still has vs modern supercars. It really goes to show how special it was when it came out.
When they released the LFA it was already outdated it had 10 years plus of development.

In 2010 I was invited to Lexus Insider Event at NJMP. I had opportunity to autocross IS-F and all there F Sport models. But the two high lights of day were going out onto NJMP Lighting Race track in IS-F with pro driver, it was fantastic when got home took my deposit off M3 and brought IS-F but the biggest trill of all was going onto Lighting Race Track with Pro driver in LFA at WOT in straight was like nothing I've ever experienced then and now. It was sonic assault put upon my ear howling sound of Banshee wail it was epic. I still own my 2011 IS-F 11 years after I purchased it, it been flawless no issues just normal wear item. It now FBO RR Racing tune and tuned intake running E30 blend with KWv3 Coilovers, RR Racing LCA, Figs Engineers suspension components as well as track goodies.

The Lexus LFA was not built to win drag races
It was built to be an icon.
The only real weakness of the LFA is the 6-speed single-clutch
some call it weakness, some call it character.
the huracan sto was not built to win drag races either and the lfa was built to be pretty fast but its delays through development makes its performance incomparable to cars of its time, maybe cars 10 years older.

Two lovely cars, and what we have learned is that the marvelous mechanical engineering in these two cars creates a smile, win or lose.
Both V10's are so different, one sounds like a scream of an Angel, other sounds like a pissed off big cat, truly magnificent
Although I much prefer the og 5.0L Gallardo V10, it sounds so much better than the new 5.2L V10

It's just amazing how far we've come since the LFA. I mean the LFA was never the quickest car but against the Gallardo of the day wasn't able to match it... I think. But now the successor to the Gallardo just trounced the LFA.

The unanimous agreement that the LFA is absolutely breathtakingly, brilliant sounding is so awesome.
Not many things make me shed literal tears. The short list includes "Death and Transfiguration" by Richard Strauss, Tchaikovsky symphony 5, and the LFA. That sound is otherworldly. Transcendent even.

I feel like there is a lot of time to made up in the shifts in the LFA, definitely sounds very relaxed in those shifts
When you guys do a drag race, could you include the time results. For example: 1/4 mile time, 0-60mph time, etc.
They’ve addressed this and how it doesn’t really matter. Motortrend and Car & Driver already have those stats for you.

Besides it getting destroyed before I even watch the video, the LFA and Porsche Carerra GT have the best sounding N/A V10's of all time
They have a special tone to them but there's others. Viper's V10 is quite unique too. And of course, none of them are on par with the F1 V10s they were inspired from.
The LFA noise is mostly the exhaust. There's nothing really special about that engine. Not packaging, nor weight, its not specially powerful or efficient either... Compared to CGTs straight from racing engine, the LFA's V10 is just a toy for everyday use.

You are very right about that...the LFA is the best sounding car...EVER. It is so unique, but I wish it was able to compete against other supercars from its day. If I had my choice of any car from any era, it wouldn't be the LFA...definite top 5 though.

For all the enthusiasts out there. The LFA's engine is actually not made by Toyota or Lexus, it was engineered, manufactured and acoustically tuned by Yamaha. Yamaha utilized its knowledge from making musical instruments/music production to fine-tune that immaculate exhaust note.
