    Hi everyone! I would love to hear your thoughts on what I had to say in this video.. Every show has it's downfalls but there are reasons why we keep watching them so in this video I go over why I still think Titans is a good show, even more so than others! BobaTalks I like Titans despite its flaws as well. I agree Titans greatest strength is also its biggest weaknesses, that being the smaller episode count. Because of the lack of episodes, character development for each character suffers. They can only focus on a few characters. I agree 15-18 episodes would give them time to flesh out more characters and really build to an awesome finale. Their finales still need a few work. I do disagree with your analysis on CW’s character development. Titans did a great job with Dick Grayson’s character development but the other characters just didn’t get enough screen time. CW has the time to give other characters more time and ultimately more character development. I’m a huge Nightwing fan so I’m not complaining for the Nightwing love. Beast Boy doesn’t get the screen time because his powers are expensive to animate.

      The more I think about this the more I think it kind of sucks with good things and bad things
      Best DC universe show for me is Doom Patrol
      Titans is really not all that solid at all
      And after 2 seasons I'm not sure if it will get better in season 3
      I will check the new season out but I'm not sure if I will stick with the show for the long run
      The writing is the biggest issues and it hasn't improved consistently
      Titans best episode for me is the Superboy origin episode episode

      I definitely agree with the flaws of Titans, but I still love it for the same reasons you stated. I can’t wait for season 3! Also, I have a question for you about season 3. Because we all know Jason’s character arc, if he’s to die in season 3, do you think it’ll be the classic Joker way, or do you think he’ll die a different way in order to actually make it Titans related so he can become a new villain in later seasons? Also, if Jason does indeed die this season, do you think we’ll get an end season cliffhanger with Tim Drake, or do you think that might be saved for season 4 if we can get a 4th season for Titans? Great video on Titans as always, Boba! Keep up the good work!

    I agree with a lot of your points - I think it's well acted, the characters are interesting and I'm invested in their stories, I love the tone of the show and it's beautifully shot and costumed. There are some issues though of course. I do think the story lacks focus and also that there is too much plot filler. Maybe not entire episodes like the CW shows but it's still there. Episode 1 of season 2 should have been the finale of season 1. Donna's death was laughable. And I hate Hawk and Dove. But I'm excited to watch season 3 and hope that the show will find its grove this season.

    Well with all the alternate sequences they released for season 1 finale with Doom Patrol helping the Titans to fight Trigon would have served as a better finale for season 1 instead of carrying it over to season 2. In season 1 they should've teased Slade Wilson's tease with Esai Morales making an uncredited appearance to setup season 2. Now we can see Titans crossing stream with other shows depending on the story.

    This is my absolute favorite DC show. I will admit, their season finales don't land very well, but they still manage to have highlights in them. But like Boba said, we were originally going to have Nightwing in the season one finale. Which that alone, wouldn't make Dick Grayson's journey to Nightwing a standout like it did in season two. Also, apparently H.I.V.E. were supposed to be the main antagonist in season two, but the changes made in the season finale obviously changed that to Deathstroke. But I do agree that maybe they should extend the episodes to a 15 or 16 episode count to have proper time to develop characters & tell the story they want to tell.

  • @Red_Wright1357
    @Red_Wright1357 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    What keeps me tuned in is that they touch upon the characters' human problems (Jason Todd's trauma after falling off a building, Gar Logan's fear when he had to bite a man's head off and turn back to human form with blood on his face, Hawk and Dove's struggle with addiction, Kori's escape from responsibility and royalty, etc.)
    Really looks like they patterned the show from Zack Snyder's themes.
    Sure, they come up short with the writing and pacing, but still.
    Great review as always Boba.

    Thank you for this post. I was hoping that someday there would be a place that I could post about TITANS. I was a big fan of the comic books when they came out. I loved the TEEN TITANS, and I would get every episode and read them through several times. When the series came out on DC, I was so excited. I enjoyed seeing ROBIN and RACHEL, and STARFIRE, and BEASTBOY, who was called Changeling, and Oh My God, CONNOR and KRYPTO!! my FAVES, What was missing was CYBORG, who ended up in DOOM PATROL. I never read stories regarding HAWK and DOVE. I love this series, and I really enjoyed the story lines and I really hope for Season 3. Thank you for this post. I am really excited about this and hope for continued conversations.

    Given that Titans is a streaming show with shorter seasons and possibly a higher budget per episode (I'm not sure on how true that last one is though), the writing blunders and lack in character development/arcs are far more noticeable than the CW Arrowverse shows. I think with the Arrowverse, there are more constraints with the network (ex: how CW loves their romance/drama/pushing certain themes or arcs), filming (i.e. they don't film the whole season before it airs), budget, etc. that impacts the writing and production value - versus with a streaming show, the writing and production usually happens "all at once" (i.e. you would think the story would be more cohesive and thought-through). The fact that Titans tried to cram as many characters as they did in both seasons without really fleshing out their arcs is disappointing - it felt like they just threw a bunch of ideas at the wall and tried to go for all of them. S1 didn't go as in-depth with the core team as much as they should've while dedicating 2 whole episodes to Hawk & Dove as well as one for the Doom Patrol (though they brought in Gar) who both aren't part of the core team (i.e. Gar got barely any development, Starfire suffered some too); and then the botched finale. S2 threw even MORE out with Slade, Ravager, Jericho, Bruce Wayne (but illusory), Cadmus, Superboy, Blackfire, and the flashback team; and then the rushed finale. With rumors that S3 will include Lex, Wally West, ... - can't remember what else has been rumored - and with remaining threads hanging, I hope S3 can reel the show back in. Titans tried too many things, and really didn't stick any landings.
    All that being said, I'm still watching Titans. It has its strong points (i.e. production value, set and costume) and can be enjoyed for what it is, but overall I don't think it meets the quality of writing streaming shows should have. While still watchable, I think the word that comes to mind to describe it is "disappointing".

    While I enjoyed your video, I am somewhere in the middle on your Arrowverse v. Titans (I haven't seen Doom Patrol yet.)
    Agree:
    - The CW should only do characters with powers rather than the gritter non-powered characters because their tone works best when it is not as serious. Although I liked Arrow, I think it would have been a lot better on DCTV. In contrast, I really enjoy the Flash and the older seasons of DC Legends. Even though I do not watch it regularly, Supergirl has improved after its very poor start.
    - Titans has a much better cast than any of the CW shows, maybe the original Flash cast could compete, but they do not use them to their full potential because they rush the seasons so much. The special effects and costumes are also better quality, even though the CW has improved from early seasons for Arrow.
    - To answer your question, I think I like Titans because of the cast and quality EPISODES that Titans make. It really helped me to enjoy Titans by looking at it as a collection of 13 loosely related episodes. For instance, the Connor episode was probably the best episode of Titans, yet it had NOTHING to do with the rest of the show minus saving Jason Todd from falling off a building.
    Disagree:
    - I think the CW does a better job of putting together a story that makes sense, at least in relation to the villain, because the seasons are longer. Honestly, I have NO IDEA why people hated on the Flash Season 1's "villains of the week" because that was my favorite part of the entire show. In that season, the audience learned with Barry how to become a speedster by fighting all those side villains with different powers. While the Wellsobard twist gets most of the attention, I think I fell in love with the show via the villains of the week. Likewise, I think season 4 could have been good if the Thinker did not switch bodies all the time. In contrast, I feel like Titans wasted their Deathstroke, whom I really liked, by rushing the show. Seriously, could Titans ever make a season as clean as season 1 or 5 of the Flash?
    PS. I agree that Savitar, the Thinker, and even Cicada him/herself (without including the Thawne elements of it) are lacking as villains, the Bloodwork stuff story arch was well done considered they did it in 8 episodes while focusing more on the Crisis than him.

I agree with the flaws you pointed out, the pacing for me especially in the last couple episodes of season 2, make this show a work of progress. But somehow it's become something to look forward to after a long week. Just sitting back for an hour, geeking out at seeing these characters live action, the costumes, action, character interpretations makes me coming back. Titans issues in my opinion: (I like this show, I will watch always. However, the wasted potential on this show is through the roof)
    1. Writing and Pacing. Like.. Make a real season of television already with actual plot points and increasing tension. Its been two seasons and they haven't gotten close yet.
    2. Lighten up the show. Adult themes with teenagers is always cringe. Let the adults in the room be adults, and let Jason Todd, Rose, Raven, Beast boy be damn TEENAGERS already. Everyone loved Teen Titans because they acted like damn teenagers while saving the world. I'm personally sick of these emo ass kids always getting screwed over in the hardest core of ways. I want to see stuff like beast boy eating all the food and raven getting pissed or Jason Todd being all emo and serious and raven playing a gag on beast boy to lighten him up or something.
    3. Bring Swamp Thing back Immediately!!!

    If I have to compare Titans to another polarizing show I deeply love, it would have to be the US Version of Being Human. That show also received a ton of negative criticism during its initial run, mostly from fans of the UK Original who refused to give it a chance. And it did have it's problems here and there, but there was just something about it that kept me, and I'm assuming many others, hooked, specifically the chemistry and dynamic between the characters (also one of the main things I love about Titans). But people seem to view it a lot more fondly now that it's gone, so maybe the same will be true for this show in the future.

    Definitely prefer the tone of Titans and Doom Patrol over the CW superhero shows, the exception being Superman and Lois, which so far has been done very well. Hopefully, CW won't screw it up. They have weight and character development. The CW shows really just don't seem to have the depth that I'm looking for in a show. I would love for Titans and Doom to have 16 episodes a season as I feel that that would give them more "wrap up " time for the multiple storylines.

    As I've said before, I love Titans! I think it helps that I stopped reading comics in the 60's, so I have no expectations regarding the storyline, since Titans is basically all new to me. Boba hit on something that does irritate me to some degree. There are not enough episodes to adequately tell the story of each character. I think the series revolves around Dick Grayson. He's the anchor of the show, and I like that. There are so many other members of Titans that some characters get lost for several episodes. However, if the show is about the Titans then who do you leave out? At the end of each episode I'm left wanting more. I enjoy all the characters, especially Breton (sp?) Thwaites. He makes an awesome Nightwing. I miss the young man who plays the current Robin. More episodes would help a lot.

    I personally love this series. I get it, they took some creative liberties with the storyline, but I loved it. Instead of going the younger viewers target audience, they made it darker and a hell of a lot more violent. When I saw the trailer and heard Dick say “fuck Batman” I lost it and was all in for it. Not because I dislike Batman (far from it I’m a huuuuge Batman/DC fan) , but because it set the tone for a really violent, dark, mature take on Titans. After watching and being used to the CWverse of DC characters, I was definitely craving a mature and violent take on a DC show Doom Patrol exceeded my expectations as well being very weird and eccentric but also dark show as well with a lot of heart. One thing I noticed a long time ago with fans and audiences, is that initially they cry and scream their displeasure and disapproval of a show or movie. Give it time and those very same people are the same ones praising it saying they liked it since day one. Always happens 🤷🏻‍♂️ 😂

    I enjoy how thw show is shot. And I love the adult tone titans provides after Netflix murdered the marvel series. But titans gave 4 or 5 episodes then gave you 7 fluff episodes. I won't even discuss episode 1 being the ending of season 1. It was dumb probably more dumb than Donna Troy death. And one critique titans don't cover character development well at all. Honestly we only know about dick, we know very little about beast boy. Rachel they threw new powers at us all season with no explanation. And Stsrfire storyline was confusing. With arrow verse for all of the original characters you see a clear developed character arc. With titans they are haphazardly throwing these episodes together. Other than making the budget look more expensive than flash. It storylines are weak with little to no payoff. Titans got one season left before its Cancelled or forgotten.

    @mikey6633 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I hope they increase the number of episodes to at least 12 or 13. The story arc was too rushed. The Trigon and Dr. Light episodes were probably too expensive. Dr. Light's CGI was more impressive than Trigon. I would've preferred they turn Trigon into a dark cloud instead ( *Fantastic 4 flashback intensifies* ) and save his true appearance in later seasons. They will undoubtedly listen to feedback, but unfortunately it looks like they lost a large amount of the audience already. Season 3 may have a rocky start. Season 1 and 2 could've been mashed together to be 1 whole season, obviously I would remove and combine some episodes and plot points. I get that they had to introduce the other titans, but it would need a little bit more episodes, and explored more of Dick Grayson's past. I have a much bigger rant but these are my main points I will share.
    Edit: I feel that both season 1& 2 should be combined because it feels like season 2 was more of a... season 1 part 1, and then 1 year hiatus, then season 1 part 2.

Lol idk just didn't realize this was a comparison video.

    Teen Titans/Doom Patrol/Swampthing are DCuniverse gold,very good stories/Handling and acting on a Adult seriescreen wise tone...But One Suprising CW serie is Black Lightning...Way over the other Arrowverse series as Flash,Legends,Supergirl,Batwoman and Arrow in Handling,Acting and itriguing stories in epiodes..Its Baffles me BoBA,you never once mentioned Black Lightning or have seen it,,great cast.superb actors and storyline and not a chidish tone in episodes...

    I feel like titans is a good show cause its style matches the more dark DC comic story lines that in my opinion are some of the best. It also stays VERY true to the source material and most the story lines stay the same. (plus for those of us watching season 3 they're doing great stuff with the Jason Todd character rn)

    as much as i respect your views I really dont agree with a lot of them in this video. There was A LOT of filler in Titans because the episodes didn't move the main plot forward at all, most of the time (like the show in general) Its just fan service to show comic book stuff with no meaning.
    11-13 Episodes was also more than enough episodes to flesh out a cohesive story (Daredevil managed to do it). Titans just wastes so much time on reminding us in every episode that there is a darkness within Robin and making the team split up and hate eachother that most of the episodes go wasted so nothing ever lands then we have to rush everything at the end. There was no real evolution of Dick Grayson because he would make progress (like in season 1 deciding to cut back the violence) and then go back on it straight away (deciding to beat the scientists with a wrench then burning the building with their bodies inside), honestly watch every episode of season 1 he mentions a darkness inside him but nothing is developed on until that weak prison plot in Season 2. And this isnt because I thought it was gonna be Teen Titans but 2 series just for the team to join together is ridiculous when individual characters dont shine. (and they didnt even mention anything about earlier teen titans in season 1 that was kind of forced in)
    But man CW shows definitely do suck. Crisis episode 1 and 2 were cool though

    @GrayLanternPPA 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The greatest trick this show pulled was convincing me it was worth continuing watching. Yes, the costumes and production are both great. But the second season was written so poorly. The show likes to jump around a lot so that the audience doesn't notice. The characters are well cast, but they aren't written so that it makes me care about them and their goals. Do I want Hawk and Dove to be together? Yes? No? I don't feel one way or the other, which is a problem. I'm not invested in their relationship because the show hasn't given me a reason to become invested.
    Also, I feel like there's plenty of filler in the second season.

  • @TJUC123
    @TJUC123 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Wait. Now that I think of it. What the hell did Slade really do season 2 that made a real impact? He did more in that incredible Jericho episode than he did the entire season combined. What did he do that impacted the Titans other than giving Jason PTSD (which I thought was actually pretty interesting) and make the team break up (again) in the dumbest most unbelievable way possible? What did he do?

    • @BobaTalks
      @BobaTalks  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Killed Aqualad which split the Titans (granted this was told through Flashbacks). Split the Titans up through messing with them. But yeah, it was more subtle play. He wanted to take everything from Dick Grayson since he blames him for his sons death. He also messed Jason up a bit with him almost dying if it wasn't for Superboy. With his mind games in that episode that contributed to Jason going off on his own with Rose. For me at least, the way the story was told and combined with the past from 4 years ago, it felt like a much more in-depth gritty story than what you'd get from some CW shows.
      But like, Alice on Batwoman just trolling around wanting Kate to be her sister is any better? Or Cicada killing Metahumans with an awful performance? One of my main points with this video was just to point out that with the amount of flack that Titans get, there's so many flaws with these other shows too which I don't really see makes them any better.

    Honestly i think that Titans has already had two seasons to prove itself and has failed, starting with the fact that the initial set of characters is an obvious strategy for attracting the fans of the teen titans animated show instead of trying to be its own stuff like for example young justice

  • @blkloislane
    @blkloislane 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    It's a flawed show, but I still love it. I also think that a lot of people who hate it don't hate it for the right reasons, they either think things are inaccurate when they're not (fans of the cartoon show or specific runs of the comics that don't necessarily apply to Titans creative vision) or they simply don't get it. And that's not me saying they aren't smart enough to understand it, they just don't see the appeal in what the showrunners are trying to do, the tone, themes, and nonlinear format aren't for them. I have a feeling that even if the show works out its more objective issues, it will still be extremely polarizing.

    Boba I fully agree we are alot alike in the sense of flash. I loved the darker tone season and episodes. When the stakes are high but overall the vast majority like the silly episodes. Season 4 they went way overboard with the silly stuff which is why that is flash's worse season in my opinion. But I feel like after they found a good balance. It's a comic book show and this is why mcu is titan over DC. Mcu has mastered comedy within dramatic beats cuz we as audience need a break to laugh and breath. Even in the dark moments we still want a moment to laugh and be light hearted. So we have to accept that with arrow verse. Plus they still run the old school TV prime time format of 23 episodes so it's bound to be fluff. But I feel most flash deliver a solid episode fluff even with titans being a hit and more misses to come

    Bobtalks, I'm sorry. I don't agree with some of the things you said in this video. Yes having shorter seasons makes the story Tighter and impossible to shove in filler? Yes, it's more mature and doesn't go into that typical CW melodrama and cheesiness. The fight choreography in the second season the camera shots color palette The locations where it's shot are pretty amazing. The villain Deathstroke is pretty cool. The characters personalities And their bond with each other is interesting And the humor is good. All of this is from the second season. But other than that, I don't really see How all that outweighs all the bad you could easily put all this stuff you're talking about within the CW and nobody would complain.

    Titans has a lot of problems. First everyone on the team has directly killed people or in Robin's case stood by while someone was killed. In the second season Raven kills and so does Gar under control but still. It breaks comic rules and yet non of them are held responsible for murder. The second problem is with Superboy. He attacked in daylight police officer all of which was witnessed by people and I am sure it was caught on cam. Yes, he was confused but again, no repercussions. They you have Dick Grayson who attacked people in a airport and could be counted as a terrorist which he plead guilty to how ever many felony counts, which he was processed, pictures, fingerprints the whole yard, only to escape prison as a fleeing fugitive, and is walking with the other titans at the end of the show like nothing happened. Even Batman could not erase all of the physical evidence for Dick or Superboy. I really do not view them as superheros. The can do what they want even commit murder directly or under control yet nothing happens to them but they are going to enforce justice to others that have done the same or less. Season 1 and Season 2 should have never crossed the murder line and if someone was under control then get to them before then can cause harm to themself and others. That is what a team means you don't have to do it yourself. And where were the heros, Batman and such, they would not allow this to happen yet he seemed to have done exactly that. The show is just unrealistic and not believable at this point to me.

    It's just OK to me. After season 2 I was left pretty disappointed , it all just feels so rushed. Like we've already seen Trigon and Deathstroke, two very real threats in the DC universe and they both kinda got swept aside. Deathstroke was portrayed well (still prefer Manu Bennett) But Trigon was completely forgettable. I liked the cast for the most part, I found Hawk And Dove pretty boring but I love Alan Ritchson and Minka Kelly is pretty so I just kinda tolerated them lol. Starfire was my biggest surprise, I came in ready to hate on the character after seeing the trailers but nope. Her and Donna were probably my favorite characters. Honsetly, that last sentenece sums up the entire show for me, I was ready to hate it but was left pleasantly surprised.I'm just hoping Season 3 is tighter and more focused.

    Sorry mate I don’t agree. Is rlly not worth watching. The film making isn’t good. It fundamentally makes no sense from any of its character development or decisions.
    Narratively everything comes out of nowhere and it’s a lazy mess that is ashamed of what it is wasting a stellar cast. Things just happen for no reason.
    U calling it deep and everything is all reaching. Dick Grayson’s transition is about helping evil men escape jail cuz he believes in them, for no reason? That’s what titans think development is.
    The villains in titans aren’t even deathstorke was a massive let down never understood why he did anything and his plan on a fundamental level makes no sense.
    Doom Patrol on the other hand basically has none of these issues and is great. It’s literally the opposite of titans.
