  • The stats are spread far and wide on the Net concerning pistons and conrods of the 4AGE 20 valve.
With some extra facts and stats of my experience plus a dash of personal opinion thrown in for good measure. Hopefully this will be the "go to" for finding weights, differences, and other related information, plus that extra bit that I have found.

This is cool! I enjoyed watching this. Thank you for this.
I am using a bone stock silvertop right now with a blacktop ecu... do you have a suggested ignition timing for such set up? Currently at 10⁰ BTDC. 😊 Thank you!

      Hi there,
My "tuning" is unorthodox, but the best I got from it in stock form was to get somebody to hold the rpm at 3000 while I slowly twisted the distributor. Use a leather glove as it can bite.
What is being listened for is the engine pitch. There is a sweet spot where the engine holds rpm and sound. Too much timing and the engine begins to labor (engine under load - firing too early), not enough timing, and the rpm will fall and start to sound flat.
Once done, go for a drive and listen for "pinging" (sounds like 4 marbles rattling in a tin can). If found, then back the timing off a couple of degrees. Be sure to use the best octane fuel, and the plugs are clean and gapped to 0.9mm.

@@crd-nz_001 thank you for the tip! Do I have to short te e1 before I start twisting the disrributor?

      No to shorting the ecu.
Clockwise is advanced. This tuning alters how the ecu sees TDC. So, it means all ECU timing commands will be advanced. There is no specific rpm adjustment. In other words, from full throttle to cruise, all points will be advanced.

Hi wat fly wheel is lighter? And can I make my conrods lighter at a enjineering shop and the bottem must be balanced rite?

Blacktop is the lightest Toyota made.
There are numerous makers like Jun and Toda that do lighter ones (under 5kg)
Yes, it is preferred to rebalance the rotating assembly when making weight changes. In my case, I just did it and re installed it. I will probably pay for it later in uneven bearing wear, but until it is done, then it's just theory or second-hand information.
