      So I have a blue filter thingy with the wrench on it, but it’s big… probly at least 20”. So how do I know what filter cartridge/insert goes in it? My furnace quit workin and the guys are sayin it’s low water pressure. 🤷‍♀️ Very frustrating… I’ve been without heat and/or hot water since beginning of April .

      Hi Gary, I can’t get the blue housing off it’s so tight I’m afraid I’ll brake it. We bought the house and it came with it. I’m new to this.

    This is a very well done video. I need to change my filter. The plumber said it would cost $300.00 ! He even said the price was ridiculous and to do the change myself. Having no mechanical skills, I was about to pay the $300. Your careful step-by-step approach has given me the courage to try. Thank you so much.

    I’m a single woman who was catching hell trying to replace my filter but it was so tight I couldn’t loosen it. Thanks to your video, I found out why it was hard to loosen (bc I didn’t drain the sink water or press that red button first to release the pressure). I really was about to hire someone thinking I would never be able to do it myself.

    Just came back to this video (and the UV light video) for the third year in row. Going to start changing our filters every six months now that I have an idea of just how much sediment comes up from our well. Also diagnosed our water softener being clogged (4 inches of solid build to scoop out). Looking forward to resolving that this weekend. Thanks Gary. Working in digital marketing and lead gen for local business, I wish all trades people realized the value of videos like this. Takes 7 minutes to shoot. 30 minutes to upload and optimize. Years of value for customers and the general public. It's no wonder you have 70k+ subscribers. Consistently posting videos for well over a decade. You are a legend.

    Thanks Gary. I have a couple of smaller Rainfresh filters in-line but they work great. I've found that unless I open the outflow shut off valve (& a tap) before slowly opening the inflow valve that the resulting air pressure build up seems to cause leaks to open up at the top of the cartridge housing (air wants to escape somewhere). Also I appreciate your advice to apply plumbers silicone grease to the "o" rings (will buy some today) and to use the wrench to tighten the housing. To date I've only hand tightened it as was recommended but have had issues with leaks more often than not. Thanks for a great video.

    • @water_estore
      @water_estore  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, I would definitely use the grease waterestore.ca/products/plumbers-secret-clear-silicone-grease-food-grade-113-gram and if it leaks it isn't tight enough so use the wrench to tighten a little more.

    Great video. Really came in handy. One note: Gary says "lefty loosey, righty tighty" but he turns the wrench to the RIGHT to LOOSEN it. Most filter housings work this way: tighten when turned to the left and loosen when turned to the right. Took me a little while to figure out I was turning it the wrong direction.

    • @water_estore
      @water_estore  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Nope at 3:33 when I say "lefty loosey, righty tighty" I am turning the wrench to the left.

    • @cmcdmb1653
      @cmcdmb1653 หลายเดือนก่อน

      There are almost no consumer or professional tools or parts that go against "lefty loosey, rightly tighty". What you're talking about is how the direction is dependent on how you're looking at the connection.
      Imagine looking at the front of a clock. As time passes, the hands on the clock go clockwise (righty). But if you were to stand behind the clock, you're see the hands going counter clockwise (lefty). Same thing with this filter housing in the video. If you were under the housing and looking straight up, twisting right (clockwise) will tightening it. If you're standing above the filter and looking down at it, twisting left (counter clockwise) will tightening it. Both are the same action but the direction "appears" to change based on your viewing angle.

    My water filtration system has a pressure spigot after the filter housings but it’s located before the outlet valve - after shutting off the inlet valve , do I turn on the faucet first from a sink or do I turn the pressure spigot first to release the pressure from all the filter housings ? I have to watch this video every single time I do this task because i am always insecure about lefty loosey since it’s so hard to move…also my filter has round rubber disks on top and bottom centers, though my system looks exactly like yours…and those rubber wafers make the filter wobble during screw in. I just wish they’d made it a bit easier. But I get it done with your reinforcement that I’m doing it correctly. Thanks.

    Hi. Just changed my whole house water filter thanks to your help. Tyvm.
    Now I have two questions.
    Water was tested and it’s fine but we seem to be getting air bubbles that disappear after they rise to the top. Installers have idea why but do you have any thoughts on this? Air bubbles are super small and fine.
    We have the full setup with two tanks that remove both iron and bacteria and smells like sulfur etc.. also have the ultraviolet light. It’s got a pantair filter with shutoffs before and after the filter. Also has pressure relief red button.
    Original filter did see the winding but the replacements have a blue paper covering that doesn’t come off. Is this new for pantair?

    • @water_estore
      @water_estore  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Glad the video helped. The air bubble are coming from the iron and sulphur filter which injects air intio the water to oxidize out the iron and sulphur. Not sure what you mean by the replacement filter having a blue paper covering.

    How do i know which shutoff is "upstream" and which shutoff is "downstream"? My filter is in the middle of a loop off of the main water pipe into the house. Also, i am assuming that the "open" position is when the handle is in line with the pipe. Is that correct?

    Thanks Gary. Wish we watched your video before tackling it. We didn't realize there was a pressure button or that we could have opened up a cold water facet in the house to release pressure! Finally got it off, but another problem arose with the O-Ring. It was stretched out a bit, but we thought we could just screw it back on with it anyway. BIG MISTAKE! It leaked like a sieve and we had a terrible time trying to get it back off even without pressure. USE ONLY A FITTING O-RING in good condition! Our 5 minute project ended up being 1.5 hours!

    You make it look so easy. I thought the was going to be a real scenario situation. In the real world your going to have the filter housing full of water splashing all over the place and your probably going to get wet. So I would recommend to put a empty 5 gallon bucket under the housing and have a lot of rags. If your on a well I would recommend turning off the well pump if you don't have a ball valve on the side going to your pressure tank.
