And if the conditions are absolutely perfect, the disc selection is perfect and you've watched a really great video on how to throw a roller, but you're a filthy/noob/scrub like myself... You're gonna have a bad time 😂
Haha - I played a round with my parents this weekend. We're all amateurs but I've been working harder at it lately. We were playing to a basket deep into some trees but surrounded by soft, short grass. I told dad "watch this" and rolled a disc from a crouch. It disappeared back into the trees and dad says, "yeah - now good luck finding it in the brush..." Oh I did - 4 foot from the pole. Par. :)
For some reason, if i say, " im gonna do something stupid" and then throw a roller on a hole that most wouldn't even think if throwing one. It has panned out pretty good. Rollers have also helped my game allot on shared ball golf courses.
A very fast understable disc like a freedom can be a good disc for beginners throwing rollers but it is super technical on the angles so try something like a mamba it is a lot more forgiving
James Deiter I miss my mamba 😔 I couldn't throw a roller downhill with a bowling ball but God I miss my Mamba 😔 I lost it and now I throw all MVP/Axiom but my Mamba was lovely and faithful till the very end 👍👊
It's exactly the same as throwing a disc back hand or forehand you just throw at more angle and down into the ground. It's so easy I'm not sure anyone would need instructions if they could already throw discs.
@@subspaceanomaly nah, I've tried rollers a bunch and have no idea how to do it. I can throw a disc pretty damn good with great distance.. but can't figure out the roller. This video definitely didn't help at all haha. Plus I don't play with ANYONE who throws rollers. Or anyone for that matter.
When I attempt rollers (out of desperation) they tend to be cut rollers. Can a beginner with a noodle arm throw a roller? Is it better to use a heavy disc (more momentum) or a light disc (easier to turn over) ? Catrina was pulling out rollers last year with the F7, but I haven't been able to quite manage anything good with it, or any of my understable discs.
Depends on which way the 90 degree turn is and how far from the teepad. On a right turning fairway for right handed player you can try a higher speed more overstable disc and throw a forehand roller with a lot of cut aiming to land it close to the mando and then "stand up" as it starts rolling. The cut will help change the direction around the corner and if there's enough spin it should then stand up and roll in the desired direction. I hope this makes sense. We had a tournament recently where I had to play that exact shot and seemed to work ok.
I have a Witness that I've quit using because it's gotten so understable. I can't give it enough hyzer to keep it from flipping over. Would that be a good one to try a short roller with?
"start by focusing on getting the disc down to the ground early and vertical" Excellent, how would I go about doing that having never done it. "so now that you've figured that out, let's talk about max distance rollers" I think we missed a couple steps.
Just throw a backhand with so much annhyzer you’re leaning backwards and kind late release it a little so you throw it almost at the ground. Just go to a field and give it a shot
This raises a question coming from someone who loves flex shots and kind of likes anny putts... Why does everyone I talk to act like throwing an anny is really hard?
@@texaschodehouse I think a lot people who play disc golf are in bad physical health, and modern humans often are pretty hopeless. If you're overweight leaving backwards would be harder
This vid should have had more examples. Not just of the perfect example, but maybe 5-7 examples of each throw with som variation, to see what we should be expecting.
No if you can't put proper speed on a disc backhand don't use it for a roller. Maybe throw your hatchet underworld Jade diamond sapphire something like that
I still don't know where to aim, Danny. Additionally, some of the camera work on this video didn't track the disc, so was not helpful. I appreciate one piece of advice more than the rest: "Don't throw rollers in a head wind." Thanks, Danny.
I can teach you if you want. If you watch him throw a roller you can see its not really his strength. And when he says dont throw into a headwind , it proves it more.
"Don't throw rollers in headwinds"...this seems to be how I inadvertently throw rollers today by accidentally turning over a poor disc choice! The result is normally not pretty!
I disagree on uphill. Uphill is the best scenario for my roller. I roll a breakout for uphill rollers, because it holds more stable and straight than on flat ground. I roll a discraft thrasher for flat ground rollers
My tip on throwing rollers... I don't throw rollers. But when i do.... It wasn't intentionally And means I completely failed the execution of a air shot.. generally a side arm throw with an under stable disc... but surprisingly enough, i will get great result with a mistake Your welcome
Danny, you mentioned a good edge for a roller but you didn't define what that is. Later you said not blunt like a mid-range, but your comment makes me think there's more. Will you enlighten me?
All these are good tips BUT this is supposed to be a beginners guide , dumb it down a little and show proper angle's. Using big words and verbiage that a beginner doesn't know won't help them
Danny has become so polished at writing concise yet entertaining scripts and making them sound super natural! Keep it up!
Agree.
If you French fry when you’re supposed to pizza. You’re going to have a bad time.
Yeeeet
Best comment
Thanks for making these, DD! Loving the Danny Disc content.
Thinks about throwing a roller
“You’re going to have a bad time”
If you're already having a bad time, roller.
"If you try any kind of roller, you're gonna have a bad time" - Danny
And if the conditions are absolutely perfect, the disc selection is perfect and you've watched a really great video on how to throw a roller, but you're a filthy/noob/scrub like myself... You're gonna have a bad time 😂
Bj Varney 😂😂 nice
I can’t get enough of Danny’s videos. My game has advanced by leaps and bounds this year thanks to these tutorials.
You have some of, if not the, best instructional videos there are. Keep it up man

I’ve been throwing a DX katana super flippy it’s a nice roller disc for me. I’ll try a less flippy one for the left finish
After playing in the wind this weekend, the title in the thumbnail had me laughing so hard.
I'll stick to my throwllers, thanks

Great job brother...as always 👍👊
Guess I'm a natural, been throwing rollers since day 1 (yesterday). Call it the "el rollo" after the endless summer. My best throw!!
This man called it “el rollo” 😭😭😂😂😂
Loved all your recent videos except this one because you never explained the mechanics of HOW to throw a roller but the other info was interesting

How should you select a disc or roller type for a tight 90 degree turn around a Mando for example
I use a mamba for that type of hole. They seem to work pretty well for a RHBH roll around corners

Sounds like a recipe for "a bad time"
nice video
Nice
Awesome! Can you repeat please?
I like how you give tips for throwing rollers in various wind conditions, then for a head wind...
Don't throw rollers in a head wind.
Love throwin my roadrunner for rollers. Why go over trees when you can roll under!
“if it’s windy, you’re gonna have a bad time.” not for me, a windy day was the only time i’ve ever been able to throw a backhand roller on purpose.
I have a Witness that I've quit using because it's gotten so understable. I can't give it enough hyzer to keep it from flipping over. Would that be a good one to try a short roller with?
Yessir. Do it in the field a lot before going to a course with a tighter fairway
"start by focusing on getting the disc down to the ground early and vertical"

If you can't throw a anhyzer u probably shouldn't be trying to learn throwing rollers..

How do I throw one 700ft like Eagle did?
Should I snap my risk to get a better roller angle on the disc or should my risk be neutral?
Risk? You mean "wrist?"
No just change the angle you throw it on that's it
John Hall I let the first time slide but then he said it again 😂🤦🏻♂️
@@tmartin555, I know it's a bit pedantic, but come on. SNAP YA NECK FOR MOAR POWUR!
😂that last part tho. Headwinds! Ahahaha
Man I was REALLY cheering for that turquoise forehand roller to keep on truckin until it went between the trees all the way at the end.
This vid should have had more examples. Not just of the perfect example, but maybe 5-7 examples of each throw with som variation, to see what we should be expecting.
Anybody else think about the ski instructor from South Park..... Your gonna have a bad time.
There are times where an uphill roller can put in work
if i can't throw a queen (noodle arm) could i still use one for rollers?
In my experience with throwing a faster disc than I'm capable of, they seem to go overstable. Not sure that would work well.
No if you can't put proper speed on a disc backhand don't use it for a roller. Maybe throw your hatchet underworld Jade diamond sapphire something like that
If you pizza when you French fry...you’re gonna have a bad time 😂
thanks! now I'm definitely NOT trying a roller on #2 today.
I'm surprised you didn't mention forehand rollers, for getting out of trouble. Maybe that falls under "scrambling".
He did..... 4:45

Danny can you please do a left forehand roller video?

I disagree on uphill. Uphill is the best scenario for my roller. I roll a breakout for uphill rollers, because it holds more stable and straight than on flat ground. I roll a discraft thrasher for flat ground rollers

I've gotten some great rolls accidentally. I've also had some with disastrous results.
Can ANYTHING in disc golf just be simple?

And for headwinds... Don’t.
