Building a Beach House in the Philippines - The Finished Product & Tour!

  • Since we started building our beach house, we had a lot of requests to upload the house tour. As you all know, we first built the second floor of the house where our bedroom is, then later, the first floor where the kitchen, rest room (or what the Filipinos call CR which stands for Comfort Room), and living room. We did upload the video for that part, and if you haven't seen it yet, please do watch it.
We did not plan on building the first floor (we rented a house in the city), not until our flights back to US were cancelled last year due to the pandemic surge. We loved living here by the beach rather than in the city where we rented a house, and so we decided to just make it a whole house. It is actually no-brainer to just have a place to call our own than just rent and spend half of the week between here at the beach and in the city. We are very glad to finally get over renting and just settling in one place. On January this year, our lease with the rental was up, and so we moved here while construction was still in process. It was stressful at times, more often than not, but it was all worth it. Now, we fell in love with the place where we are currently living. Although there are sacrifices like the scarcity of water (it comes late at night, and is gone early in the morning), far from the city where we have to deliver our laundry, do our grocery shopping, and even the storms that are terrifying at times, but the joy of being by the ocean and to hear the calming sounds of the waves crashing on the beach, feel the coolness breeze, and be around the family, outweighs the cons.
We know it has been awhile since we have uploaded a video to our channel, and we have had a lot of requests to show the finished product and the complete tour even before it was finished. It took us awhile to upload as we were so caught up with the ongoing construction, and just needed a break and to concentrate on finishing our beach house and to make it our home.
I know that the number one question that we are going to be asked is, "how much did this cost you?". The current estimated cost (labor and materials, etc.), so far, is ₱800,000./$16545.60. If you compare that to our monthly rent in the city at ₱18,000/$372.28 and times that by 12 months, ₱216,000/$4,467.31. That doesn't include the utility bills that was way more than we are paying here. We are now living rent-free and stress-free.
We are looking forward to uploading more videos soon, but be patient as the internet here on the beach is somewhat unpredictable.
Thanks everyone! We hope to see you on the next one.

Beautiful house. Love every element of your house. So inspiring to see you build a second home in the mother land. I wanted to do the same in my birth country Angola. The cost of land is so expensive to acquire. So happy for you and your family 💕💕🇦🇴🇬🇧

Love the tropical beach house aesthetic. Things I really like are the kawayan walkways outside with the step up and fence around the house with the plants really give it that tropical feel. The amakan wall and ceiling treatments are beautiful. The kawayan furniture inside is awsome, your giving me some great ideas for my house build. Thank you.

Awesome! Thanks for the compliments! It was fun being creative. Everyday I would walk the lot and a lot of times I would come up with ideas and ask if it would be possible to do, and my brothers would give me a material list and a new project would emerge. My wife was in charge of the landscaping. Best of luck on your build!

Oh my I super love your native beach house. From the outside to the inside up to the 2nd floor it's all gorgeous. I love the plants I'm super plant and flowers lover. I love the sitting outdoor furnitures, the hammock where you can relax. love how you guys put indoor BBQ griller. I love your living room with that big opening access to lanai its amazing. On the 2nd floor my favorite is the balcony where I can see the beach view and the bamboo furnitures are gorgeous.Seeing your beach house made me so excited to go back in the Philippines to build our dream home but I have to wait till my hubby retire. Very beautiful beach native house. I love all the bamboos! Great idea but scary to own a nipa hut house. Thank you for sharing. Where are located?

Very nice, a place like that in Laguna Beach, California, would cost you $750,000, great job❤️

A tip for a shower that came from my cousin in Lithuania who rigged up a shower in the backyard using a 55 gallon drum that collects rainwater and gets heated by the days sun which is on an Elevated stand and uses gravity to create water pressure , he attached a faucet to hook up under the 55 gallon drum with a shower hose . You did a beautiful job on the house , it really looks artsy . I have a fiancé Merlie Olahay in Arkansas who is from barancay mansayo on Lake Mainit , she has friends in Hot Springs who are from Butuan city.

Love Lake Mainet! Beautiful place! The 55 gal drum sounds genius idea. The only thing we'd have a problem with is lamok ( mosquitoes). Maybe some screen or something might prevent them. We do want to ad a water tank to store water though. Thanks for watching! 🤙

First off VERY NICE! You have a very beautiful beach home. I stumbled on to your video at random and I was like ok let me check this out. I was amazed at what I was seeing. I even see your dirty kitchen build and the water tank build. I'm very impressed at all you have done and I love the touch of the bamboo furniture it's all awesome. I guess for this part I'm very western, I'm not too fond of the CR but don't get me wrong it's very nice. What I mean by very western is the bucket system yes I know the rule that you make do with what you have. I would just tweak it a bit especially after you put in the shower, I would put in hot water because for me I can't take cold or lukewarm showers no matter how hot it is outside. I love the Philippines I've been there once and I'm planning on coming back in about six months to see my fiance again. I know it's just a vacation place for you and your wife but man it's so awesome, I would love to live there that's how beautiful your place is. Thank you for giving us a walk through your wonderful home. I'm curious because I know we really can't work in the Philippines and you don't look old enough to retire how are you able to afford to do all this if you don't mind me asking. Again thank you and yes I subscribed.

Thank you for watching! Our water tower works on gravity, so the pressure is not strong enough for an on-demand water heater. I have gotten used to the cool showers. The tank kind of "warms" the water during the day. We sold everything back in the states, early retirement, savings, strict budget, and disabled vet. We live here pretty much full-time now. Appreciate the sub!
