- This recipe is for how to make Italian-American Lasagna. This is the one that many Americans know and love. There are a couple of tricks to making a perfect lasagna that's not runny and easy to assemble. This classic lasagna recipe with meat sauce is made with a hearty ragu, ricotta, mozzarella, and Pecorino Romano cheese. Make sure to let the lasagna rest for at least 30 minutes prior to eating. Enjoy!
Use this MEAT SAUCE RECIPE:
• Italian Meat Sauce wit...
MEAT SAUCE SERIES:
• Recipes To Make With M...
INGREDIENTS:
-4-5 cups meat sauce
-1 pound lasagna noodles - Dececco brand works well
-1 pound mozzarella cheese - sliced
-1 cup Pecorino Romano - grated
For the ricotta mixture:
-1 pound ricotta - drained overnight or for at least 2-3 hours
-1/4 cup parsley - minced
-1/4 cup basil - minced
-2 eggs
-1 teaspoon kosher salt
-1/4 teaspoon black pepper
INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Bring a large pot of water to a boil and add 2 tablespoons of kosher salt and a touch of olive oil to it. Boil the lasagna noodles (work in batches) to very al dente (about 4-5 minutes). Scoop out sheets with a mesh strainer or pasta spider and shock in cold water. Lay flat the lasagna noodles on parchment paper or clean dish towels.
2. In a 9 by 13 (or 10 by 15) baking dish place a drop of olive oil and wipe the bottom and sides. Next add a thick layer of meat sauce, completely coating the bottom of the baking dish.
3. Place 6 lasagna noodles on the first level (they should slightly overlap). Spread a thick layer of the ricotta mixture onto the noodles, then layer 1/3 of the mozzarella, another thick layer of meat sauce, and finally 1/3 of the grated Pecorino Romano cheese.
4. Add 2 more layers to the lasagna. On the top layer just add the sauce, mozzarella, and Pecorino Romano.
5. Cover the lasagna with a lightly oiled tin foil cover. An even better way to cover the lasagna is to place parchment paper on top of it, then the foil.
6. Bake the lasagna covered at 375f for 45 minutes in the middle of the oven. Remove foil after 45 minutes and bake uncovered for 15-20 minutes more until the side noodles are crispy and the cheese is bubbly. Enjoy!
NOTE: Let the lasagna rest at least 30 minutes before eating. This will help it settle and not be runny.

"No one is going to know... Nobody will care... Everybody's going to love this - trust me - they are going to love that you made this for them" Such a warm sentiment - like a hug from grandmom.
Agreed
Can you put a tiny bit of nutmeg in the ricotta? I thought some Italians do this but not sure.
The teaching you provide is pure gold. All the knowledge of a Nonna and all the taste of your skill.
To you Chef!
Thanks so much!
I made this last Christmas and it’s now a new family tradition ❤ It was so delicious and a huge hit with my boys!
My family for the first time since the start of COVID had a big get together and I was supposed to make dinner for everyone. I tried a double batch of this recipe with as much parsley and basil I could stand to chop, and a homemade thick meat sauce like you suggested and it was unbelievably delicious. To anyone looking to try this. Do it, it is completely worth the ingredients and effort. Even my brutally honest Nonna loved it. The one thing I did different was I broiled the top with the cheese for the last 5 minutes. I don’t know if it made it taste better but it looked a little nicer. With the store bought roasting pan it came to 14 1/2 lbs all together. So thank you for sharing this wonderful recipe and so many other great videos and keep up the great work!
Thanks man! I saw your comment a week ago, but couldn't respond. It just reappeared today. I would always respond to such a nice comment like you took the time to write. Broiling the top is always a nice touch. The crispy edges are the best! I'm not sure why I didn't say it in this video, but I did include it on my website. 14.5 pounds is a good amount. About 6 servings in my family haha. Really glad you enjoyed it and that it got your Nonna's seal of approval too!
This is the way my mother always made Lasagna. The only thing we did differently was use oregano instead of basil. To this day I'm not a big fan of basil & it's slight licorice flavor. Lasagna was always what I requested for my birthday dinner (I also love Eggplant Parmesan) but Lasagna won out most years. I never heard of using bechamel sauce until the food network became a thing. Maybe because I grew up in NJ all of your style of cooking is so wonderfully familiar & heartwarming for me...
I try to make the food that people who grew up in the tri-state area will know and love. I'm of course grateful when others find the channel and enjoy it, but I do laser focus on this area of the country.
What part of NJ? Hawthorne for me. I'm so happy I found this channel, takes me back to my childhood big time.

I grew up in Edison, but have lived in Hawaii for many many years now... I still miss the style of Italian food I grew up with...
Your channel is so under rated. I don’t understand how you don’t have many more subscribers. We love all your recipes!!
Thanks! I appreciate the support.
This is a pretty good way to use some leftover Sunday sauce (also your recipe) that's been sitting in the freezer for a while; I added a pound of ground pork to the leftover sauce to make it meatier, and it worked out nicely. Draining the ricotta is super necessary for a non-soupy lasagna, thanks for that particular tip.
LOVE EVERY SINGLE THING YOU MAKE AND YOUR VIDEOS. YOU EXPLAIN BEAUTIFULLY. HOPE TO SEE YOU ON TV ONE DAY! THANK YOU!
Thanks so much! I very much appreciate you watching and liking the videos!
I made this receipt tonight. Words cannot describe how good it was. The only deviations I made to the recipe were 1. I used Victoria brand marinara instead of a homemade, 2. I used ground beef and mild Italian sausage (because I couldn’t find ground pork) and 3. I used a different brand of lasagna noodle, but I doubt that had any impact. Absolutely the best lasagna I’ve ever eaten.
Thank you. This is the way I was taught to make lasagna. God Bless and stay safe.
Omg!! I made it this way this time around and everyone loved it. Thank you!! I strained the ricotta (never did it before) and I layered it instead of globbing it (like I used to). Amazing!! Thank you again!! Will continue to make some of your recipes. 🥰🥰🥰
I love this guy
I had not thought about making roll up's with the leftover cheese and sauce. What a great idea. Thanks for your lasagna guidance. Making it tonight in Charlotte, NC.
I made your lasagna for Thanksgiving with addition of other dishes . I followed the recipe exactly ! It was the biggest hit! Thank you !
So happy you enjoyed it!
I made this last night and it was the best lasagna that I’ve ever made. My boyfriend and I thoroughly enjoyed it! Thank you
I was hoping you’d upload a lasagne recipe 🤤 This looks awesome. I’ve only ever made lasagne with a bechamel sauce and no mozzarella. Every one of your videos makes me want to run to my kitchen and start cooking. I’m gonna try this lasagne this weekend. Your kids are gorgeous, I love how you include them in your videos. Thanks for the upload 🤘🤘🤘
Thanks! I put off the lasagna until now because I was saving it for this new meat sauce series. I include them sometimes, but most of the time they're too busy with Nintendo or what not😂
Nothing better than fresh lasagne noodles. Love the ricotta tip.
Another odd thing about my Naples born and raised grandmother’s recipes. My mother told me she added some, I don’t know the amount, of cottage cheese to her mixture. Again, her lasagna was some of the best I’ve ever eaten, better than the lasagna served at my uncle’s favorite Brooklyn restaurants and my favorites in Baltimore’s Little Italy. But it’s something that with as many people that I have spoken with, none of them have ever heard this. Thanks for your videos, which I thoroughly enjoy, but I’m off to the deli to get started on my thick sauce, or “gravy”.
Our family ate your exact recipe today that I made. Some of the Best Lasagna we've ever had. 10/10!!
Fascinating, in the UK/Europe- the Béchamel is the standard Lasagna recipe. Never thought to use Ricotta and sliced Moz. And the meat sauce as the final layer? This is amazing 😂😂👍
It's crazy how different the channel is now. Lol So im going to tackle this recipe this week. Thanks man!
No one’s gonna know. No one’s gonna care….. it’s lasagna. Even bad lasagna is still LASAGNA!!! Try your best, and we will know how great it is. Best dish ever.
I'm making this lasagna tonight. It is in the oven as we speak. I have never made lasagna before, but I make your Ragu every single weekend. I figured it was time to kick it up a notch! Thanks so much for your down to earth wholesome channel. If you have a recipe, I will skip many other youtuber's recipes and just focus on yours, you're so damn authentic Tri-State Italian dude. I trust you will never steer me wrong. Kudos, Jim!
OH MY GOD!! This turned out EPIC! This is my very first time making lasagna and it is the very best I have eaten. I am 43, and absolutely adored my mother's lasagna, which I now realize was kinda shortcutted a bit, this full method is the best pasta I have ever eaten (this is my first time ever, remember lol). I followed your recipe to a T besides a few extra spices here and there. That Ricotta mix is GOLD. I have seen a few guys and their mixes, but this particular one made my wife sing your praises, Jim. Things were pretty fantastic in our household this dinner, I have you to thank for that. This was epic.
I've just come across your stuff man and I love it. Very laid back and no frills, just all about the food. A lot of the recipes remind me of the stuff I've had growing up (despite being Mexican instead of Italian, my parents working in Italian restaurants when they first came to the US rubbed off on them).
Thanks man! Glad you're enjoying the style of the channel!
Man I love that the kids show up your a great dude, makes it family friendly and all. Love this channel
Thanks! From the beginning I tried to do something a little different than all the other cooking shows on TH-cam.
@@SipandFeastthanks for the content, surprised I only just found it, me and my girlfriend will keep watching! Peace!
Going to make this for Christmas dinner!! I never have to wonder if your recipes will turn out well; they're all keepers! Thank you!!

I made this lasagna for Christmas and everyone loved it. I used your meat sauce also.
Great to hear that it was a hit!
Made your zucchini boats twice already, love em a lot. Thanks for the vids.
Awesome! I appreciate you watching and trying out the recipes🙏
You have a nice way about you in these videos, keep going and this will get massive.
I appreciate that!
I made this over the weekend, very good. My daughter and her husband loved it.
Awesome! Glad it was a hit!
Great tricks for making Lasagna! You have made life a little easier!!!!!!
Thanks very much!
Just made 2 trays for my sons lacrosse squad. They loved it, keep um' coming sir!
Sounds yummy! I just put dry noodles in my lasagna...add maybe a half cup of water...and bake a little longer. The noodles absorb the water and all the juices and they cook perfectly!😍😍
Definitely a good way to do it. I offer this recipe as only one way to prepare it😀
@@SipandFeast for a no-boil method, do you prefer using noodles labeled “no boil”, or use the regular lasagna noodles without boiling them? Do you have any other tips for a no-boil method?
Love what you did at the end with the leftover bits. 👌🏼
Thanks! There are always a bit of leftover ingredients to make these rolls which everyone loves.
Just found your channel and I cannot wait to cook all these amazing dishes. Great presentation sir
Thank you! Appreciate you checking out the channel!
That giant pot of sauce is gorgeous 👀yum, I love a saucy lasagna! love that rigott pronounciation and yes, ricotta in lasagna is better than bechamel!
I think this vlog is ideal, informative and every dish inspires me to try.
The man is a family guy!
And a good teacher!
Thanks very much!
I'm glad someone else is out here cooking with kirkland products - FOR THE PEOPLE!

My favorite Italian dish!

I just found your channel today, and now I'm mad at myself for not finding it sooner. Love the attitude you have towards cooking. Can't wait to try out some of your recipes.
Thanks very much and welcome to the channel!
oil on the foil so it doesnt stick is genius. cant believe i've never thought of that
oh, my god, this looks amazing. All your food looks fantastic. Your family is so lucky!
Thank you so much!
Yeah this seems really easy to do. I like that trick at the end with the last few lasagna noodles. Thank you.
Thank you! Hope you enjoy it!
Beautiful video! Going to make this soon.
Never occurred to me to strain the ricotta, I will definitely be doing that next time I make lasagna. Tips and advice like this one are much appreciated, I've learned so much from your videos, thank you! Subscribed!
If you want to try something different try cottage cheese. You might realize that it give the lasagna a lighter taste that allows more concentration on the sauce and other cheeses that the ricotta can kind of put in the back burner.
Excellent!!! Delicious!!! No idle chatting!! Perfect!!!❤❤❤❤🙏🙏
Thank you very much!
I'm a fairly new subbie and always enjoy your videos and tips.
I had to to comment on the roll ups. GREAT idea! TFS🙋
So happy I found you! Lol your channel is great! Subscribed! Making your Sunday gravy now!
Hey thanks! Hope it turned out well for you!
The roll ups are brilliant. Great lasagna.
Thanks very much!
I gotta tell ya... I really am glad I found your channel! I'm enjoying your videos very much! The lasagna looks delicious!
Thanks very much! I really appreciate you watching my videos. I'm pretty new as a TH-camr but love making these videos and will have a lot more content coming out in the future.
@@SipandFeast -- I'm really enjoying your channel also! Wish I had discovered it much sooner, six months to a year earlier. I have been constantly hungry since a hospital stay in the second half of September 2020, when I lost 70 pounds, dropping to only 130 pounds in early October 2020. Your recipes seem to be just what I need. My Mom and younger Brothers have been restricting my diet, thinking I was an _'undiagnosed diabetic'_ and therefore _'didn't need'_ to eat any of the dishes I craved. They finally removed the restrictions, or at least loosened the reins a bit, allowing me to cook for myself on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays. So, my weight has improved to the ~145 pound range, still pretty slender at my 6'-1" height. All day I dream about food, though there are certain dishes I have never liked... Okra, Turnips, Squash, Rutabagas, Radishes, Peppers, and the like. I've always adored Italian Pasta dishes, though. Thank you for sharing!
Great dish! Love it! Looked very tasty. My sister uses sweet sausage instead of chopped meat.
I really enjoy your channel.easy going, informative and delicious. You're relaxed and focused personality,, camera angles, soothing voice make for a pleasure view experience. Thank you for starting this channel. It's my favorite now. Keep up the good work! All my best to you and your lovely family 🙂
Such a great tip about letting it rest I see so many people just cut It up right away and it just falls apart. It stays Piping hot as well. Keep up the great work love your recipes.
Thanks very much!
I love the wooden spoon! Really want one like that.
It's hand carved. Google hand carved spoons and ladles to find something similar.
Making this now for our Christmas day eats. Thanks!
Hope you enjoyed it!
@@SipandFeast The best recipe I have tried! Thanks.

Fabulous recipes... Love this lasagna recipe , perfect for dinner this weekend. Yum.
Thank you! Hope you enjoy it and would love to hear how it turns out!
I prepared this recipe and it was fantastic.
Great to hear!
Making this Sunday, thanks dude
You make it so easy a looks really good i need to make this for next family dinner
Thanks very much!
This is next on list, never knew to strain ricotta 🤙
I have a strainer that I use for making Greek yogurt that will work perfect! Thanks again Jim🤙
Hope you enjoy it!
Exactly how my mother used to make it. The toughest part is the noodles which you perfectly explain. Lots of people in advertently just fill the pot with noodles and then they stick like crazy you need preparation and patience for that part do it right and you won’t have any regrets one question I do have is regarding make ahead can you make this and either freeze it or cook it two days ahead of time thanks
thanks for the share we plan on making this today and will be our first time making lasagna
Hope you enjoyed it!
My very first lasagna Is in the oven now!! This video was very very helpful, thanks buddy. Fingers crossed it comes out as beautiful as yours lol. I'm thinking it will, it looks amazing before baking😬🤞🤟🤟
Hope it turned out great!
Hey Jim... Started watching your videos recently and I love it... I used to live in the greater New York area and I really miss the food... Thanks to you I started cooking again and realized how much I miss it!!! I also really appreciate your down to earth approach to cooking... It really shows how much you love what you do and I think it's great that you have your family involved as well... Thanks again for what you do and your hard work... God bless.. Ciao!!!!
Thanks so much! I'm trying to show this food in a non stressful instructional way. I appreciate the feedback and the kind words.
Oh u a real Italian!!!!
I think I'm going to invite myself to your house for that Lasagna 😂😂😂
I'd like to invite myself too. It's been over a year since I've made it lol.
@@SipandFeast it's all good. Happy Thanksgiving 😀.
This looks exactly like mine. I use a little nutmeg, cinnamon and sugar in my ricotta (with about 1/2 dozen other cheeses) mix. Mmmmwah!
Exactly how I make mine. I enjoyed it so much I am subscribing
Thanks and welcome to the channel!
Excellent! Looks delicious!
Thank you!
Fantastic video. 😊
Looks good, and your channel is growing!
Thanks man! It's moving in the right direction!
Looks really good easy
this is exactly how i make mt lasagna. I use oregano as well as the basil. i also use toasted fennel seeds in my ricotta mixture as well.
You're so underrated... Great video! :)
Thanks! That's so nice of you to say.
Love your presentation. Love your recipes. Wonderful tips. You brought me back to childhood on Long Island. One question: Does you top layer omit the ricotta?
Eve the roll ups looks good
😱 WOW! I like how to use the left overs I could make
MORE for hubby for dinner & he'd LOVE IT just as good.
& it would go a lot farther for a few meals & easy-cheap.
Thanks. Glad you enjoyed it!
@@SipandFeast yea I just got the hamburger the other day
haven't gotten the rest of what I need but where do I find the
ricgotta mixture or the stuff you mixed up in the glass bowl?
Would love to see your take on a vegetarian lasagna, it's less traditional, but I bet you can come up with an awesome rendition with those classic Italian veggies!
Hi Matty! I'll put in on the list. Veggie Lasagna can be great and I'm sure it would make a good topic to cover!
OMG I love your family. I'm making this tonight. You say Ricotta just like my mama.
Thanks! Hope you enjoyed it. I'd say my accent is quite moderate compared to some New Yorkers haha.
This looks amazing and fun to make.
Thanks very much!
looking forward to making this. Thanks!
Hope you enjoy it!
Delicious as usual.😊😊
Thanks very much!
_"It will be a LOT better..."_
*YES!*
Saturday’s Conference Championship games lunch and dinner! The tough part is figuring out which beers go best with Lasagna. It’ll be an unsophisticated crowd. (I’ll probably go with- “If the beer is free, it’s for me!” Works well at Henderson Family Reunions)
Dude! I saw you vlog on you making a Italian sub or as east coasters call me hero! I just subscribe and going to make this lasagna recipe.. you f n rock…. Geez I’m hungry!
Thanks so much! Hope you like the lasagna.
That Looks AMAZINGLY delicious. Wow, simply gorgeous looking.🥳🍷❤️
Thank you!
OMG I made this earlier today and it's soooo good! Thank you so much for sharing the recipe. ✨❤️
Hey there! So glad you enjoyed it and thanks for letting us know!
I have used the oven ready lasagna that you don’t have to boil and to my surprise they worked well.
I heard they do. Thanks for the tip.
My favorite dish lasagna
Lasagna, old faithfull 😀
Loved this video !! A Suggestion for something different for you to
make is Cappellin Aragusta which I'm told is a Blush gravy with sundried
tomatoes and Lobster over Cappelini. Not sure of my spelling of this
but the description is what the Chef said it was. I used to have it
when I lived in NJ but now that I'm in Texas it's impossible to find.
Thank you
I really enjoyed this video. I am going to make this lasagne for Christmas for the family. I am now subscribed to you channel. I would love to see a enchilada recipe video too 💫😄
