None of my Phillips fit properly and it was a pain. I believe Subaru uses the JIS screws, which is Japanese industrial standard. it looks similar to Phillips but it's a little different. it's probably worth getting a set of JIS screwdrivers if you want to do a little jobs like this on your Subaru or other Japanese machine.

On the hatchbcack subarus you have to take the interior piece partially off (just the center and lower pins and the handle that all just pull out).
