This movie was good because it had good characters, military leader, military men, science team, egghead professor, and smart attractive lady ... one of the first good role models for intelligent women. It also had a good plot for science fiction. Really a great movie. I try to see it on the silver screen every time it plays at the Stanford Theater in Palo Alto, CA, where they play old and classic movies. This is always a treat.
This movie, enjoyable as it already is, is even more enjoyable with a hot cup of coffee ☕ like they pass around in a few scenes. I like watching The Thing in the depths of winter as this, like with the coffee I mentioned earlier, enhances the drama.
You are correct, Ben. Cloning Dinosaurs is a terrible idea because they were here before man and their gone so leave it be. Also make sure a fly doesn't sneak into your teleportation device and don't bring someone you don't know in the Jedi Council because you don't know if you can trust him or her
Also don't let an alien monster that breeds in human hosts on board your spaceship. Dallas and Lambert were the reason they were killed because they brought the creature on board.
@@MagicianMovies1992You should rewatch it. Weyland Corp. programmed it's synthetic humanoid Ash to preserve the alien. Remember the quarantine scene? Yeah, Dallas and Lambert didn't do that.
I like this film so much I had to write my own follow up. The THINGS from another world by Dan F Brereton. I liked the idea of the 'thing' being a plant based life form.
@@plasticweapon Actually, no! In MY opinion, the original is MUCH better, because it didn't use special effects, creating what I call the "YUCK!" factor, to evoke a sense of terror. Rather, it employed script, acting, direction, atmosphere, sound, and a MINIMUM of sfx(you don't even get to see all that much of the Thing!) to make the movie scary!

I Love that theater. Looking forward to the day when we can actually watch movies in a theater again, hopefully without masks.

Strange. I noticed two women in the camp. But one of the women seemed to be invisible to the men.

The original is much better. The goofy special effects ruined the 82 version for me. I love the 82 cast though.

Oh so it was Hawks that added that fast, overlapping dialogue that was the only thing I didn't like about the movie.
