To hear at the end of this vlog about Mr Lopa passing away and what his son Paul and family requested, wow my faith in humanity has gone right through the roof, to think of this and to continue working with the heart ache Paul has to work through, its people like Paul Lopa that makes you want to get up in the morning. REST IN PEACE MR LOPA.

This was seriously amazing!! I have muscular dystrophy and live in a small apartment with my parents. As my disease progresses, my daily tasks are getting harder and having a house that's handicap accessible is seriously my dream!!! Not only to make it so i can live easier but to help my parents. My mom's back is horrible and she has to pull me out of our bath tub dead weight and it sets her back off for days. So happy for this family. I pray this will be my family one day...especially the bathroom!!!

    • @roguewolf7053
      @roguewolf7053 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

I hope your prayers are answered soon!!💕🙏🏻💕🙏🏻 I’m disabled too. I have EDS & I have 2 blown discs & 2 bulging discs and just found out my husband has a torn disc...so I feel for your mom as well as you. EDS is also progressive and it sucks! Although I know MS is disabling my faster & more severely as before I was disabled I cared for MS patients as a nurse & now have a friend with it. I pray for a cure or at least a better treatment that restores some lost function & slowly progression of MS.🙏🏻💕🙏🏻💕🙏🏻

That was simply unprecedented what Mr Lopa's son did for the family , in memory of his father. WOW...There's a sign of someone with real character and integrity. George , I understand that you are a professional TV host , and could most likely be as comfortable as a team member on :this old House" or some other show. But I hope you realise the lives you are touching , and changing as a result of this Rescue program. It is television like this that fulfills what programming should always be about . People!!

I know right?! I wonder if it’s voice activated or has an adaptation he can use his head/mouth to control? Or if it’s just programmable to shift his position every so often?🤔🤔🤔 Before becoming disabled I was a nurse both in the hospital & in people’s homes & that bed would’ve literally saved people’s LIVES! Ive seen patients die from infected pressure sores & pneumonia from staying in one position too long 😞😢 And this bed helps prevent BOTH!!💕💕💕

So happy that this happened for your family! You are truly blessed. I became a paraplegic when I was 18. I was hit by a drunk driver and went off the side of the mountain. I live independently but my house is not accessible, my ramp coming in is not even done correctly. It’s hard to be at home but never feel at home. I make it work because I have no choice. I am so glad you will not have to feel like that anymore! So welcome home! I wish all of you the best and thanks to George for making this happen!

Y’all did an AMAZING job!!💕💕 And bless Paul & his family for all they did despite the personal loss they endured. His father raised an amazing giving son. I know this video is a couple months old but I know from losing my dad you grieve for a long time so prayers for Paul, his entire family & everyone who knew his dad. 🙏🏻💕🙏🏻💕🙏🏻💕🙏🏻
-Concerning the build I just have one question though...why didn’t y’all do some voice activated lighting & tv controls for his room? Or did he already have Alexa(or similar device) to do that? Also...is the bed voice activated? I know that YOU couldn’t MAKE the bed voice activated of course. But I would think the company that makes the bed WOULD KNOW *THAT* would be a *NEEDED* function for a quadriplegic. Unless it has some adaptation for being controlled via his mouth or head. Just curious. *NOT* criticizing in *ANY WA* bc y’all did an absolutely AMAZING job!!💕💕
-As someone who is also disabled who needs to use crutches nearly all the time I know the struggle of living in a house that isn’t really assessable. 😕 I *should* be using a wheelchair part of the time but it just isn’t possible inside my house. Plus I can’t afford a wheelchair bc when I *do need* to use one I can’t use a manual chair and even the cheapest electric is close to a thousand dollars. With all my medical bills & me not being able to work it’s just not feasible. 😞 And bc I.. 1)Don’t need a chair full time & 2)My illnesses that affect my mobility, Ehlers Danlos Syndrome(EDS) & unspecified type of severe dysautonia, aren’t really well known or understood...my ins doesn’t want to pay ANYTHING on a manual wheelchair. Much less an vastly more expensive electric chair! Heck I had to buy my new crutches myself bc my ins was like “We paid for crutches for this same issue 3.5yrs ago use those” 🙄😒😒 Like they don’t wear out with constant use!🤨😒 Also they were the basic standard crutches which are no long the best style to use long term. So with some help from family I got some new ergonomic under the arm crutches AND some great forearm crutches which are great. But on really bad days...I really need a wheelchair. Instead I’m left stuck in bed. Both of these illnesses are *EXTREMELY* unpredictable. I could be having a rare great where I’m functioning without my crutches & take 1 step & my hip fully dislocate. Which if that causes me to fall hard it often cause my knee &/or shoulder to dislocate as well. Which while me & my husband have been trained by my drs & PT to put joints back in place, recently dislocated joints are weak & tend to want to dislocate again so they have to be braced/immobilized for at least a few days or up to weeks/months. And of course the extreme pain such dislocations & resulting falls cause lasts for days to weeks as well. If both a hip or knee go out as well as one of my shoulders or ribs...it make using crutches very painful or impossible. As well as using a manual wheelchair. 😕
Another thing is I could bend over, get startled or even just sneeze and that can set of my dysautonia. Causing my heart to race suddenly up to 175+ best per minute & my BP to suddenly drop very low...causing me to become very weak or even pass out...especially if I’m standing. And that can last for hours to days. Of course this CAN start when I’m sitting or even laying down but the danger is when I have to stand as which the combo of EDS & dysautonia when I stand the mechanisms that keep the blood from all rushing to my lower body/legs doesn’t work properly...especially during an episode. So having to get up & even walk to the bathroom often results in falls..which results in dislocations...which in turn makes it more likely for me to fall again causing even more injuries. It’s a vicious cycle. 😞 So you can see how having a wheelchair would help right? EXCEPT my house was built in the 50s with a large addition added in the early 90s that doubled the size of the house...but the addition is 2 steps LOWER than the original part of the house & the bathroom/utility room at that end of the house is ANOTHER step down🤦🏻‍♀️. The doorway & hall in the original part are SUPER narrow and the bathroom is literally 7’ wide & 11” deep so there is barely any room. The newer one is more open BUT is unfinished & now is currently unusable. 🤦🏻‍♀️😞🤦🏻‍♀️ And no money to fix/finish/alter the house as we can barely afford mine & my husband’s medical care as he also has health issues & is a cancer survivor. My disabled mother ALSO lives with us...originally so *I* could help take care of *her*...but now it’s more like we just all help each other the best we can and *PRAY* we dont *ALL* get sick/injured all at once!😕 Because those 2 are far from my only illnesses...just the 2 that affect my actual mobility.
So...I *TOTALLY GET* what the people they help who have mobility issues or are forced to spend a *LOT* of time at home and/or in bed are going thru. Also before my illnesses got so severe & caused me to be disabled I was a fire fighter/EMT then a Paramedic then an ER nurse(RN) as well as an in home carer/nurse for hire. So I also know their struggles from that aspect too. That progression of jobs is because of the increasing physical limitations my body developed. Even after I had to stop being even a part time nurse I went back to school to try and get my Masters in Clinical Psychology so I could be a psychology & provide counseling to people. I even had secured a job with a company that provides counseling services via video chat, voice only calls & even text which would allow me to work from home...even from my bed if needed. But my health suddenly got worse and I had to drop all my courses. That was 4yrs ago & Im only now, in the last 6 month, beginning to get well enough to consider going back to try and finish. But grad school is very expensive. 😕😕 I truly know money can’t buy happiness & the most important things in life money can’t buy...*BUT* boy does it make life easier and dreams, comfort, quality healthcare & accessibility *SO MUCH EASIER!* 😕😕
Anyway...if ANYONE read this far your amazing. 💕😂 I guess I just needed to share my story too. I’m also operating on only around 5hrs of sleep in 72hr(aka 3 days) which may have something to do with it. But George u and your crew do amazing things for amazing people! Keep up the great work!💕💕 I wish only the best for this family & all the families you help. 💕❤️💕 And I hope anyone reading this has a great day/night, that any struggles u are facing get better & wish you all the best too. 💕💕

Watching these shows, and the house flipping shows, NO WAY I would ever buy a house that has been flipped. Esp from that guy in San Antonio. There is so much that needs to be done right....and that is costly. No way they take the care that George to the Rescue does.

SOME do. But you WILL PAY for all the extra care & effort they put in though. 😕 Which if it’s just being done as a way for someone to make a living...makes sense and is fair. Time & effort does = $$$ 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️
Which makes the fact that George & his crew do this at zero cost to the family all the more amazing!💕💕💕

Where I live no one helps people. If guess my house 60 years or more. I've had 30 years but never had money to fix anything. . Oh well. It's a dream to have but I know dreams don't come true. I know

Hello from Canada. Thank you. God bless you. I pray your life will improve day by day with the help of Our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen. Love you. ❤😇❤🐕 Hopefully one day with Medical Research and Technology you will become more independent and mobile. Can you get a Sevice dog to help you or keep you company?

I’m sure he could. But trained service dogs can cost $30,000 - $100,000+. 😕 So he would need to apply thru organizations who give approved applicants a dog for free. Sadly due to funding there are few such organizations for dogs that do other tasks besides guide the blind & seizure alert dogs. 😕 And even the few that do help people get service animals can only assist as many people as they get funds for which is typically only a handful per organizations per year out of literally thousands of applicants. But it’s always worth a try right?🤷🏻‍♀️
He could also get an untrained dog that has been chosen by a trainer as having potential and have his brother & mom help him train his owner dog! The vast majority of service dogs ARE handler trained actually 💕💕

As great as it is to retrofit a house, it would seem far more logical and efficient long term to move to a single story fully accessible home even with the reality of having to leave a neighborhood. They probably could have bought a custom house far more suitable for their needs for the same money that was poured into these renovations.
