As You said. Engine out. Investigate. Plan and repair. Any other alternatives are not time/cost effective. See you in the next one. 👍👍

Your on the right track.
Take it out and see what’s wrong.
Hopefully your lucky and just the head gasket.
I would still get head checked and skimmed if l was you.
That way you don’t have problems later.

If its been hot like that possibly done the rings , would be pulling the rods/pistons out while your there , not much more work with the head off
