As an Apple user, this is always the problems I have with Android. I hate the, "This phone has this version of Android and maybe this other phone will get it next week but if you want it now, you can root the phone yourself" craziness. With that being said, I've seen a test like this done maybe 2 years ago with Apple and Samsung and while both trackers did very well, the Samsung was a tad better. I had no problem when I had my Android many years ago, but I'm too old now and don't have time to be messing with things and prefer the default settings to work well.
@@dontbanmebrodontbanme5403 The amount of users who root their phones are very small in comparison to what it was years ago. Many of those features can be found natively on the phone with no root necessary or using an app like Good Lock for Samsung devices.
I’d love to see more of these tests. Go on that international trip, one bag with an AirTag, one bag with a Samsung Tag+, one bag with the Chipolo, and one bag with the Pebblebee.
Next time include Samsung Smart Tag 2 in your next tracking video and also turn on the correct settings on your Android phone so the comparison is fair.
Yeah, you know they have to try and make Apple stand out. They don't want to piss off their Apple God. Android (Samsung) has all that and more, but they don't know how to work tech.
The fact that not all Android phones have had the new find my device network enabled I'm sure has a lot to do with it. It's brand new. I happened to get it recently, but a lot of people I know don't have it yet, so it'll get a lot better very soon I'm sure.
I would've agreed with you but android is years behind on this technology, they should've done this earlier, most devices already had the hardware for basic tracking like for a while too.
The newest Find my device is still rolling out and UWB support is coming soon for the next iteration of find my device. so hopefully will see a repeat of this test after three months
I love how, at the 5:18 mark on the Android phone, you can see that the tracker is no longer in Lost mode. That explains why there was no notification and no accuracy. (For the haters, you can see at 2:24 that on the Android phone it says "Mark as found," but at 5:18 it says "Mark as lost.")
Super helpful!! I wish Apple’s AirTag is a little louder. There’s been a few times where I lost my keys that got buried in a gym bag. I can kinda hear it but I had to dump out everything to find the AirTag. But still, AirTags are a LIFESAVER!!
You should redo the video by hiding the tags in separate places. Your comparison makes no sense when finding the Apple tag thanks to the Android tag that is very loud 😅
While I completely agree with you, do remember that she didn't get a single notification from Android and the only reason she could hear the Android tag is because Apple told her the general location of where they were (go to around the 5:50 mark of the video). She wasn't just aimlessly walking around Fisherman's Wharf. She knew the general location of the iPhone 4 minutes into the video, (edit: I mean 4 minutes on her stopwatch) waited and got another location at the 9 minute mark (edit: again, on her stopwatch) and finally decided to start walking when, 30 minutes in, she didn't get a notification. What would have been much better is to separate the two trackers, so I agree with you there, then see how long it takes to find each tracker without help from the competing app. This whole video was pretty much a waste of time! 😂😂😂
The comparison was for which could be found first. Android sound notification and location helped find it first. Apple said it was still 4 feet away. But credit was still given to Apple?? Make it make sense.
They might have their in the works, letting third party manufacturers work out the kinks and be a barometer test to see if there’s enough interest in the field before committing their resources to it or unveiling it.
The problem with #2, however, is that Samsung tags only work with Samsung devices. If you have a Pixel or any of the many different Android variants, you can't use Samsung tags. With that said, she should redo this test for one other very obvious reason: they didn't separate the tags. She basically was using whatever information one system was giving her to then help her find the other tag. For example, 4 minutes into her stopwatch, Apple had already pinged her and let her know generally where the tags were. She waited 30 minutes, didn't get a ping from the Android device and said screw it, I'll just start walking. Well the only reason why she knew in which direction to walk is because the AirTag had already told her where they generally were. But then things switched up because the Android tag was the first one she could hear and she was able to hone in on where both of them were. They should have separated the two tags and ran the test each time, trying to find the android tag ONLY using android information and the same for the Airtag. That would be a much better test. If you want to throw Samsung's tags in there, that's fine, but it should be mentioned that if you have Android, but not a Samsung, you can't use the Samsung network to help you.
If the problem with #2 is the Samsung ecosystem, I'm sure you'll appreciate the problem with the comparison she did using the Apple ecosystem. Of course she should have compared Apple with Samsung to get a far more sensible result. @@dontbanmebrodontbanme5403
At 5:35 the android phone shows the exact location on the map. The lack of notification is not good. If you were actively looking for something though, you might have the app open and looking at it. There was also the choice to have directions on the android phone and overlooked it, while praising the iphone.
If it was able to pinpoint the location that accurately, then the giant green circle is rather confusing. It should be growing or shrinking based on confidence of the range.
Samsung tags would have been a better choice. If we're talking about ecosystems, it makes sense an AirTag vs Samsung tag video. If we're talking general trackers, we could have use Chipolo for both Android and iPhone

We're testing ONE network in ONE ecosystem, vs an open, generic, works-for-all, no-crowdsource-network device different from the phone brand. If we want to test "networks", then it should be Apple's implementation vs Samsung's implementation. This video leds people to think that trackers that work with Android are terrible, and/or the Android system in itself is lacking. It's an unfair comparison
I don't see how google can fix this. Their default settings purposely make their network not work well. Every person would have to manually change their settings for the whole system to work as well as Apple's. Even if they realize it was a mistake (and seeing all the news articles that have come out recently I guarantee they do) they can't go around changing people's settings without a lot of push back. As a long term Android user I'm very disappointed that in the end after all this wait we're not getting what Apple has, not for any technical reason, but for bad decisions on Google's part.

Given how little people seem to know about this feature I feel like Google could make that change silently without much uproar unless it blows up on news sites. Worst case they make the change and put up a vague popup after system update noting some scanning settings changed with a link into settings for user to opt out. Thanks for actually demo-ing the Chipolo, I pre ordered one and was curious to see it in action. Yes, it would be great to see it in use when you travel overseas. I thought mine would be here on time for my upcoming flight but it won't so... Great video nonetheless.
It eliminates unwanted variables. This is the best approach to this test. Keep them together, and have both phones searching it at the same time and comparing what you see on either phone. How would you conduct this experiment? Lol.

@@kas4751 The number of people outside is irrelevant and doesn't alter anything for the experiment. The experiment should of been done separately to have full focus on one device at a time. Why would you conduct an experiment using two devices from different OS's at the same time? That is a very unlikely scenario and makes absolutely no sense to do.
Galaxy Smart Tag 2 UWB When I pull down to refresh the Galaxy Network Map, Nearby history pop up. The Been Nearby notification is not protected software the virus attacks is use the tracker network.

This was not to test the tags. This was a test to test the network. Android opened up. It's fine, my device network for trackers. So she's really comparing apple and Android network, not a specific tracker.
I travel often for work and I have a tracker in each of bags and luggage. I will save you the "business trip" ... Apple wins... pure and simple. Google's Find My Device system is broken - I can't find anything especially when I need to and I ended up getting an iPhone just for the Find capability. Google announced some type of partnership with Tile but I think that fell through the cracks and never came to fruition. Without Tile, Google's system is useless as the crowd-sourcing network is just very weak. Heck, it can't even find my Android devices or BT earbuds. If the Android device goes into a "deeper" sleep and never checked in, then you will not be able to find it. The "ring it" option also doesn't work reliably. Apple wins this hands down....
"a bit mature" is an understatement! The Apple find my network has been out for years whereas the Android's is just recently launched. On top of that you need the Google Find My Device app installed on an Android phone for it to participate in crowd sourced item finding.
I thought the Android network has been around for a long time. I remember a video being done like this maybe 4 years ago against Apple and Samsung. I'm assuming Samsung doesn't have its own network and is using the same Android network, right? Maybe I'm wrong with that assumption. Edit: Ok, I've read in other places and you can only use the Samsung network with Samsung phones. This is why I prefer Apple. Too much splintering with Android.

Items example bluetooth trackers. I agree if you're an apple person. Do use apple trackers, Not a problem, but even if we say it's a fifty-fifty split between apple and Google which it's not. But she only knew where to walk because of the AirTag literally telling her where to walk. She wouldn't have heard anything if she didn't know the general location of the tag in the first place. Which is why I thought it would have been way better to split up the tags so that each is found on its own merits. This test was flawed.
Accept it bro. First notif was from Apple. Android lost from that point. The faster the first notif the more chances you'll find your stuff. That's all that is needed. I use S24+

I agree. The Google network is not mature enough to run this test. My problem is I'm a gadget geek. And I've been following this since they announced it. Over a year ago. I spent too much time reading and analyzing reviews over the last period for a $25. Item, I'm a nut.
Hoping to see Tile join the find my network. I feel like Tile has a decent enough install base that if they join that network it would probably be the best option for android users
The problem with Tile is it doesn't matter how many people have Tile; you have to have the app open for it to work. This is why Apple had no issues squashing them. I used to have Tile, but the moment AirTags came out and it was seamlessly blended into the Find My network, it was over.

The Samsung tag is only used with Samsung phones. So if you have any other phone other than samsung, you can't buy a samsung tag, But this new network? It's for all Android phones, even Samsung phones. So in theory, once the bugs are worked out using the Google. Find my device will be better then samsung tags
Looks like the Google one made a noise helping pin point the Apple one more easily. Should have had 3 person experiment: one hide both. Other two on separate devices search for who finds it first
Typical Google, they setup the settings by default to a lower detecting setting, plus google is hyper slow at issueing the update to ALL andtoid phones which does not help anyone.
Google has to work out the kinks for every Android phone type. Apple only had to map it to one type of device. A lot larger project when you consider all factors.
Apple and Google already try to track me and everything I do on my phone. People think Siri and Google Assistant are there to answer questions when they both were developed for listening to you even with the phone turned off. They should give phones and computers away for free when you consider how much they make from mining your information and selling it to companies. I hate how i can talk to my wife about buying a new car and i open Safari and get new car ads popping up. They can take these trackers and do you know what with them. These trackers are just another way to mine your data. They didn't spend millions developing and maintaining these networks so you can find your keys. I'm 55 and I've never lost my keys.

Samsung makes tracking devices. How far down the barrel did you have to scratch to find a "Chipolo". Air tags are good products. If you're going to make an ad for them, just do so. The algorithm brought me here. For mature tech content I stick with The Verge.
The purpose of this test is to test the Android Find my device network and currently there's only 2 devices available that work on it. One of them is chipolo, And the other one is not a Samsung. This is not a test of trackers in theory. also this is not an ad, the name Chipolo is not in the discription. The description says Apple versus Google. There may be a hidden agenda with this company. But I don't see it to be biased for once specific tracker as there's only two trackers available, for the google network.
Here’s what stinks. I used to lose things all the time, like my keys and wallet, but this was before AirTags even existed. Since they’ve come out I haven’t lost anything.😂 I use my AirTags as a way to make sure I don’t leave anything behind when I’m leaving the house.
You "wouldn't" use them? Or you "don't" use them? That's like saying I don't wear a seatbelt because I never crash! You don't crash UNTIL YOU CRASH! I have an airtag on my keys and my wallet and when I travel, I put one in every bag, even my carry on luggage, in case they force me to check it in.
I've been thinking about using smart watches to remind you to check your items (with a vibration on your hand) when your destination is reached on a public transport. This method can assist you to remember to hold every items with you before exiting the public transport. Sometimes we have a tendency to forget things on the public transport but a strong haptic vibration on your smart watch with a notification message can remind you to hold unto your purchase items like groceries before exiting the vehicle. You can set an approximate time that it will take to reach your destination and the smart watch will trigger a haptic vibration to alert you to secure every items that you're carrying. You can use this method on a private vehicle as well when travelling with a friend. The set time don't need to be too specific but just a rough calculation that it will take to reach your destination. 😎💯💪🏾👍🏾

Hi, the purpose of this test was to test the networks, the Android network and the apple network. If she wanted to do a fairer test, she should have used chipolo point and spot to do the test. One of them is for Android. The other one is for apple. This is not to test the trackers. This is really to test the network. The only problem is it's too soon to test the Android network because they've just opened. Get up to Bluetooth, trackers.
I've still never had my backpack stolen (or lost so severely that I couldn't find it) and if I did then I imagine whoever stole it could easy throw away the tag. Are these like exclusively sold to abusive boyfriends (the potential for misuse by stalkers seems to wildly outweigh the possible benefits) and paranoid true crime podcast moms?
1. There are other reasons to have a tracker. You've never misplaced your keys? You've never arrived at a new city, but your bag got lost? 2. In the case of a thief stealing a purse or something, sure, they could throw the tag away. But a. they'd have to know there was a tag in the bag and b. they'd have to find it. When I travel, I put an airtag on one my my socks. No thief is going to be looking for a tag, then go through every item of clothing to find it. They're first going to steal the item. They don't have time to examine it. When they get to a safe location, they'll then check to see what's inside of it.
You only can use Galaxy tabs on a galaxy phone. I'm not sure if they will be recognized by other phones, but you only can set them up on a Galaxy phone.
Until Google makes a first party UWB based tracker hopefully later this year, using one based on BT alone of course will lose out to a UWB based tracker like the Apple AirTag. The Pixel 8 Pro is equipped with UWB but can't utilize it with the latest Chipolo and Pebblebee trackers that use the latest iteration of Google's Find My Device Network sadly. Google would help their chances a lot if they include in all of their Pixel 9 devices later this fall if they want to give any chance at this new FMDN at maturing to even the Samsung SmartTag level much less Apple AirTag.
Try comparison with the Samsung's Smart Tag 2. I work with both of them since my location in more favorable to be found by samsung phones instead of iPhones
AirTags not only work off of iPhones, they work off of iPads, Macs and MacBooks as well, so AirTags might still have an even bigger network than the Smart Tags in your region.
1. You are comparing features which has been released for apple years ago, and google released it recently and not on all devices (due to apple hold back the feature) so you should wait 1 year 2. Check in a country where android is more.numbers than apple. 3. You used the chipolo which has shorter range, try it out with pebblebee.
Hi, This is not a test for the trackers. This is a test for the network. Android, just released to find my device network that finds trackers. And since apple's airtag have been around for a while, this is really just a test to see if the Google's version of the find my device is up and running currently, And will it actually find a device that was made for the network.
The experiment was rigged. Both the devices should have been placed seperately. And two persons should have been treasure hunting. By puting both of them together create a disadvantage as you were searching for airtag. and reached chiplo.
The point of this was to test the 2 networks, the apple network and Android network. And currently, there's only two that I know of right now that are working with the android chipolo and Pebblebee. In theory, the android network will surpass the samsung smart tags
Apple can't find my AirPods if they're in their case. WTF Apple! Who keeps their AirPods out of the case, while they're not in use? So you can't lose your individual AirPods, but you definitely CAN (and sadly, I did), lose your AirPods altogether. Well thank you Apple, for not implementing a basic feature such as finding the headphones while they're in their freaking case! How hard would that be?
The information you have on your video is highly INCORRECT, I have the s23 ultra and my smart tag 2 uses Bluetooth AND the ultra wide band so maybe that tag doesn't use the ultra wide band but my device has and I used it in an airport in Vancouver it works perfectly.

You firstly stated this was a 'Apple Vs ANDROID' comparison, but Samsung obviously is also an Android device, android is Google, find my device is a Google program which is default installed as part of my Samsung device so we will also feel the urge to comment being part of the android user universe. It is also disingenuous to a true test of technology between Apple and Android considering the 3 year head start with Apple, between related tag releases without expressing the limitations of this extremely basic new tag. Although appreciated, your extra statement much later in the video about enabling the UWB in the Google app after your test just adds to the annoyance of review videos knowing that the full test information is not given prior to the test. Maybe the title should have been something like 'Google vs Apple - find my device comparison 'newbie Google first impressions with caveats'.
The title says apple versus Android. This is a test of the apple network versus the Android network. It's not a test of tag. Versus tag. Samsung tags only work with Samsung phones. And Samsung's network. The tag they're testing works with the whole Google Network witch includes samsung. Don't get me wrong, I'm not bashing samsung tags. I have them in their great. Didn't even have the setting on Android right to bring with. Android always give you additional options. That's what fan boys/girls don't understand. Also I don't think Android send u a notification, it shows u on the map right away where it is
Android Find My Network for trackers will FOREVER be absolutely useless until Google stops letting people opt out of the service! As it stands now, every android user must explicitly OPT IN to the service, which means a lot of people won't do so. Even the ones that do opt in, Google is setting their devices to only very occasional help with the tracking network by default, and only in high traffic areas. The service needs to be fully enabled on all android devices by default, and not just "in high traffic areas", and there should NOT be an option to opt out of the service. If Google REALLY feels like they must have a way for users to opt out of the Find My Network tracking, then that user should loose ALL access to the Find My Network, meaning they can't even use it to find their own devices in the future if they have opted out.
I'm not sure it's an opt IN experience. I think it's an opt OUT experience. but I agree it shouldn't be by default only in high traffic areas. It should be in all areas.
@mrj.juneau It's definitely an Opt In experience. I received the notification on my phone already asking if I wanted to enable the feature or not. I choose to enable it. But then I went digging into the settings for it afterwards and realized even though I choose to enable it, it ONLY enable the feature "in high traffic areas, and only when a network connection is available" instead of at all times. I then selected the "at all times" option, but the point is it wasn't that way by default and required digging through settings menus after enabling the feature to set it that way.

I have an android, but i got notification from an apple airtag if is "following" me (around a year ago i rented a trailer, and that has an airtag somewhere on it). About this "find my app" ... in default not even installed on a samsung device. So this is make more ineffective the network besside the default settings.

Seems like it is just rolling out. I got an email today saying that it will be enabled on my phone in 3 days, and I can opt out now.

I would've agreed with you but android is years behind on this technology, they should've done this earlier, most devices already had the hardware for basic tracking like for a while too.
The newest Find my device is still rolling out and UWB support is coming soon for the next iteration of find my device. so hopefully will see a repeat of this test after three months
I love how, at the 5:18 mark on the Android phone, you can see that the tracker is no longer in Lost mode. That explains why there was no notification and no accuracy. (For the haters, you can see at 2:24 that on the Android phone it says "Mark as found," but at 5:18 it says "Mark as lost.")

Super helpful!! I wish Apple’s AirTag is a little louder. There’s been a few times where I lost my keys that got buried in a gym bag. I can kinda hear it but I had to dump out everything to find the AirTag. But still, AirTags are a LIFESAVER!!
You should redo the video by hiding the tags in separate places. Your comparison makes no sense when finding the Apple tag thanks to the Android tag that is very loud 😅

While I completely agree with you, do remember that she didn't get a single notification from Android and the only reason she could hear the Android tag is because Apple told her the general location of where they were (go to around the 5:50 mark of the video). She wasn't just aimlessly walking around Fisherman's Wharf. She knew the general location of the iPhone 4 minutes into the video, (edit: I mean 4 minutes on her stopwatch) waited and got another location at the 9 minute mark (edit: again, on her stopwatch) and finally decided to start walking when, 30 minutes in, she didn't get a notification.
What would have been much better is to separate the two trackers, so I agree with you there, then see how long it takes to find each tracker without help from the competing app. This whole video was pretty much a waste of time! 😂😂😂
The only fair thing is to redo the comparison with the Android set to With Network in all areas.

The comparison was for which could be found first. Android sound notification and location helped find it first. Apple said it was still 4 feet away. But credit was still given to Apple?? Make it make sense.
Google should make their own air tag equivalent
They might have their in the works, letting third party manufacturers work out the kinks and be a barometer test to see if there’s enough interest in the field before committing their resources to it or unveiling it.
You should re-do this video because:
1. You didn't enable the correct settings on your Android device.
2. You didn't include Samsung Smart Tag 2.

The problem with #2, however, is that Samsung tags only work with Samsung devices. If you have a Pixel or any of the many different Android variants, you can't use Samsung tags.
With that said, she should redo this test for one other very obvious reason: they didn't separate the tags. She basically was using whatever information one system was giving her to then help her find the other tag.
For example, 4 minutes into her stopwatch, Apple had already pinged her and let her know generally where the tags were. She waited 30 minutes, didn't get a ping from the Android device and said screw it, I'll just start walking. Well the only reason why she knew in which direction to walk is because the AirTag had already told her where they generally were.
But then things switched up because the Android tag was the first one she could hear and she was able to hone in on where both of them were. They should have separated the two tags and ran the test each time, trying to find the android tag ONLY using android information and the same for the Airtag. That would be a much better test. If you want to throw Samsung's tags in there, that's fine, but it should be mentioned that if you have Android, but not a Samsung, you can't use the Samsung network to help you.
They should do pebblebee's trackers.

At 5:35 the android phone shows the exact location on the map. The lack of notification is not good. If you were actively looking for something though, you might have the app open and looking at it. There was also the choice to have directions on the android phone and overlooked it, while praising the iphone.
If it was able to pinpoint the location that accurately, then the giant green circle is rather confusing. It should be growing or shrinking based on confidence of the range.
Samsung tags would have been a better choice. If we're talking about ecosystems, it makes sense an AirTag vs Samsung tag video. If we're talking general trackers, we could have use Chipolo for both Android and iPhone

We're testing ONE network in ONE ecosystem, vs an open, generic, works-for-all, no-crowdsource-network device different from the phone brand. If we want to test "networks", then it should be Apple's implementation vs Samsung's implementation. I don't see how google can fix this. Their default settings purposely make their network not work well. Every person would have to manually change their settings for the whole system to work as well as Apple's. Even if they realize it was a mistake (and seeing all the news articles that have come out recently I guarantee they do) they can't go around changing people's settings without a lot of push back. As a long term Android user I'm very disappointed that in the end after all this wait we're not getting what Apple has, not for any technical reason, but for bad decisions on Google's part.

Given how little people seem to know about this feature I feel like Google could make that change silently without much uproar unless it blows up on news sites. Worst case they make the change and put up a vague popup after system update noting some scanning settings changed with a link into settings for user to opt out. Opt out behavior like this sucks but the alternative may be this feature not working well at all.

It eliminates unwanted variables. This is the best approach to this test. Keep them together, and have both phones searching it at the same time and comparing what you see on either phone. How would you conduct this experiment? Lol.

I travel often for work and I have a tracker in each of bags and luggage. I will save you the "business trip" ... Apple wins... pure and simple. Google's Find My Device system is broken - I can't find anything especially when I need to and I ended up getting an iPhone just for the Find capability. Google announced some type of partnership with Tile but I think that fell through the cracks and never came to fruition. Without Tile, Google's system is useless as the crowd-sourcing network is just very weak. Heck, it can't even find my Android devices or BT earbuds. If the Android device goes into a "deeper" sleep and never checked in, then you will not be able to find it. The "ring it" option also doesn't work reliably. Apple wins this hands down....

"a bit mature" is an understatement! The Apple find my network has been out for years whereas the Android's is just recently launched. On top of that you need the Google Find My Device app installed on an Android phone for it to participate in crowd sourced item finding.
I thought the Android network has been around for a long time. I remember a video being done like this maybe 4 years ago against Apple and Samsung. I'm assuming Samsung doesn't have its own network and is using the same Android network, right? Maybe I'm wrong with that assumption.
Edit: Ok, I've read in other places and you can only use the Samsung network with Samsung phones. This is why I prefer Apple. Too much splintering with Android.

But she only knew where to walk because of the AirTag literally telling her where to walk. She wouldn't have heard anything if she didn't know the general location of the tag in the first place. Which is why I thought it would have been way better to split up the tags so that each is found on its own merits. This test was flawed.

Hoping to see Tile join the find my network. I feel like Tile has a decent enough install base that if they join that network it would probably be the best option for android users
The problem with Tile is it doesn't matter how many people have Tile; you have to have the app open for it to work. This is why Apple had no issues squashing them. I used to have Tile, but the moment AirTags came out and it was seamlessly blended into the Find My network, it was over.

The Samsung tag is only used with Samsung phones. So if you have any other phone other than samsung, you can't buy a samsung tag, But this new network? It's for all Android phones, even Samsung phones. So in theory, once the bugs are worked out using the Google. Find my device will be better then samsung tags

What is Chipolo? Why not use the Samsung SmartTag+/2 and a Samsung Galaxy S22/23/24 Ultra? Those use Bluetooth UW too.

Typical Google, they setup the settings by default to a lower detecting setting, plus google is hyper slow at issueing the update to ALL andtoid phones which does not help anyone.
Google has to work out the kinks for every Android phone type. Apple only had to map it to one type of device. A lot larger project when you consider all factors.
What about Tile devices? They work with either OS and come in many form factors. They've also been around longer and theoretically more mature system.
I have not good experience with the tile tracker. The network is too small.

Galaxy smart tag 2 and Chipolo together. I like one idea, so allow me to stop being fussy.
Apple and Google already try to track me and everything I do on my phone. People think Siri and Google Assistant are there to answer questions when they both were developed for listening to you even with the phone turned off. They should give phones and computers away for free when you consider how much they make from mining your information and selling it to companies. I hate how i can talk to my wife about buying a new car and i open Safari and get new car ads popping up. They can take these trackers and do you know what with them. These trackers are just another way to mine your data. They didn't spend millions developing and maintaining these networks so you can find your keys. I'm 55 and I've never lost my keys.

Samsung makes tracking devices. How far down the barrel did you have to scratch to find a "Chipolo". Air tags are good products. If you're going to make an ad for them, just do so. The algorithm brought me here. For mature tech content I stick with The Verge.
The purpose of this test is to test the Android Find my device network and currently there's only 2 devices available that work on it. One of them is chipolo, And the other one is not a Samsung.

Here’s what stinks. I used to lose things all the time, like my keys and wallet, but this was before AirTags even existed. Since they’ve come out I haven’t lost anything.😂 I use my AirTags as a way to make sure I don’t leave anything behind when I’m leaving the house.

I have an airtag on my keys and my wallet and when I travel, I put one in every bag, even my carry on luggage, in case they force me to check it in.
You can use them on pets, children, and luggage. You gotta think outside the box.

I've been thinking about using smart watches to remind you to check your items (with a vibration on your hand) when your destination is reached on a public transport. This method can assist you to remember to hold every items with you before exiting the public transport. Sometimes we have a tendency to forget things on the public transport but a strong haptic vibration on your smart watch with a notification message can remind you to hold unto your purchase items like groceries before exiting the vehicle. You can set an approximate time that it will take to reach your destination and the smart watch will trigger a haptic vibration to alert you to secure every items that you're carrying. You can use this method on a private vehicle as well when travelling with a friend. The set time don't need to be too specific but just a rough calculation that it will take to reach your destination. 😎💯💪🏾👍🏾

Hi, the purpose of this test was to test the networks, the Android network and the apple network. If she wanted to do a fairer test, she should have used chipolo point and spot to do the test. One of them is for Android. The other one is for apple. This is not to test the trackers. This is really to test the network. The only problem is it's too soon to test the Android network because they've just opened. Get up to Bluetooth, trackers.
I've still never had my backpack stolen (or lost so severely that I couldn't find it) and if I did then I imagine whoever stole it could easy throw away the tag.

1. There are other reasons to have a tracker. You've never misplaced your keys? You've never arrived at a new city, but your bag got lost?
2. In the case of a thief stealing a purse or something, sure, they could throw the tag away. But a. they'd have to know there was a tag in the bag and b. they'd have to find it. When I travel, I put an airtag on one my my socks. No thief is going to be looking for a tag, then go through every item of clothing to find it. They're first going to steal the item. They don't have time to examine it. When they get to a safe location, they'll then check to see what's inside of it.
I can't locate my child's tablet in my house using on the same wifi "Find My Device" 30 feet away within 10 minutes.
Strongly suggest that cNet redo the test in order to balance the errors that were made during the making of the video to be a fair comparison

I use Galaxy Tabs and they are way more accurate. They will also use any Android and IOS phone so it's always being seen.
You only can use Galaxy tabs on a galaxy phone. I'm not sure if they will be recognized by other phones, but you only can set them up on a Galaxy phone.

Until Google makes a first party UWB based tracker hopefully later this year, using one based on BT alone of course will lose out to a UWB based tracker like the Apple AirTag. The Pixel 8 Pro is equipped with UWB but can't utilize it with the latest Chipolo and Pebblebee trackers that use the latest iteration of Google's Find My Device Network sadly. Google would help their chances a lot if they include in all of their Pixel 9 devices later this fall if they want to give any chance at this new FMDN at maturing to even the Samsung SmartTag level much less Apple AirTag.

Try comparison with the Samsung's Smart Tag 2. I work with both of them since my location in more favorable to be found by samsung phones instead of iPhones
AirTags not only work off of iPhones, they work off of iPads, Macs and MacBooks as well, so AirTags might still have an even bigger network than the Smart Tags in your region.

1. You are comparing features which has been released for apple years ago, and google released it recently and not on all devices (due to apple hold back the feature) so you should wait 1 year
2. Check in a country where android is more.numbers than apple.
3. You used the chipolo which has shorter range, try it out with pebblebee.

The experiment was rigged. Both the devices should have been placed seperately. And two persons should have been treasure hunting. By puting both of them together create a disadvantage as you were searching for airtag. and reached chiplo.

Apple can't find my AirPods if they're in their case. WTF Apple! Who keeps their AirPods out of the case, while they're not in use? So you can't lose your individual AirPods, but you definitely CAN (and sadly, I did), lose your AirPods altogether. Well thank you Apple, for not implementing a basic feature such as finding the headphones while they're in their freaking case! How hard would that be?
The information you have on your video is highly INCORRECT, I have the s23 ultra and my smart tag 2 uses Bluetooth AND the ultra wide band so maybe that tag doesn't use the ultra wide band but my device has and I used it in an airport in Vancouver it works perfectly.

You firstly stated this was a 'Apple Vs ANDROID' comparison, but Samsung obviously is also an Android device, android is Google, find my device is a Google program which is default installed as part of my Samsung device so we will also feel the urge to comment being part of the android user universe. It is also disingenuous to a true test of technology between Apple and Android considering the 3 year head start with Apple, between related tag releases without expressing the limitations of this extremely basic new tag.
Although appreciated, your extra statement much later in the video about enabling the UWB in the Google app after your test just adds to the annoyance of review videos knowing that the full test information is not given prior to the test.

The title says apple versus Android. This is a test of the apple network versus the Android network. It's not a test of tag. Versus tag. Samsung tags only work with Samsung phones. And Samsung's network. The tag they're testing works with the whole Google Network witch includes samsung.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not bashing samsung tags. I have them in their great. But in theory, this network should be better than the Samsung tags. Eventually, hopefully. if not, they're going to die out. or. samsung will have to make a tag for the Android network.

Android Find My Network for trackers will FOREVER be absolutely useless until Google stops letting people opt out of the service! As it stands now, every android user must explicitly OPT IN to the service, which means a lot of people won't do so. Even the ones that do opt in, Google is setting their devices to only very occasional help with the tracking network by default, and only in high traffic areas. The service needs to be fully enabled on all android devices by default, and not just "in high traffic areas", and there should NOT be an option to opt out of the service. If Google REALLY feels like they must have a way for users to opt out of the Find My Network tracking, then that user should loose ALL access to the Find My Network, meaning they can't even use it to find their own devices in the future if they have opted out.
I'm not sure it's an opt IN experience. I think it's an opt OUT experience. but I agree it shouldn't be by default only in high traffic areas. It should be in all areas.
@mrj.juneau It's definitely an Opt In experience. I received the notification on my phone already asking if I wanted to enable the feature or not. I choose to enable it. But then I went digging into the settings for it afterwards and realized even though I choose to enable it, it ONLY enable the feature "in high traffic areas, and only when a network connection is available" instead of at all times. I then selected the "at all times" option, but the point is it wasn't that way by default and required digging through settings menus after enabling the feature to set it that way.

@eylonaharon6560 I know, believe me. I have a Samsung and I have Samsung tags and they work great. But a Samsung is Android. It falls under the umbrella of Android. It's not a test of devices, it's a test of the network.
Lesson: Put an airtag on your android tracker
I have an android, but i got notification from an apple airtag if is "following" me (around a year ago i rented a trailer, and that has an airtag somewhere on it).
About this "find my app" ... in default not even installed on a samsung device. So this is make more ineffective the network besside the default settings.
My smart things app works fine on my samsung phone
Mine too, but you can never switch phones cause If you buy a different phone than samsung., you can't use those tags anymore.
The fair thing to do would be to redo the comparison with the Android set to With network in all areas
